Hiding in the dark and decrepit pits that the landlord of this tavern called a cellar, I hid. The stench of spilt alcohol, rum mixing with ale and fermenting wine was enough to cause breathing difficulties but I remained silent, breathing in the stale air whilst guards ransacked the tavern upstairs. Their metal boots clinking together with every step allowing me to pin point their position above me.
“You... Check the cellar” a loud voice called out that I instant recognized as Commanding Officer Decapito, of my father’s palace guard.
“Sir, there must be a reason for you to enter my tavern with such aggression, There must be a reason” the kind owner of the tavern asked...He found me trying to hide in the storage area and it took a great deal of convincing to prove to him that I wasn’t a thief.
“Official Palace Guard Business, if you see a child around the age of 14, let any guard know immediately” he said firmly like he was giving an order to the tavern keeper.
“So you’re looking for the prince, 14, palace guard. You’re not very good at keeping things secret” the Tavern Keeper chuckling, the tavern full of drunks roaring with laughter whilst I heard the faintest sound of a sword being unsheathed.
I was unable to hear the next part but I presumed the Officer whispered a threat to the Tavern Keeper, or killed him. He was a brutal man.
Captain Horace Decapito started out as a simple guard but his like his name would suggest he was extremely fond of decapitating and general mutilation of his prisoners. He moved up the ranks quickly simply through the fear he put into the other guards, even at the lowest rank he had the other officers at his every whim so it was an easy decision to put him in charge of the guard.
Hearing footsteps making their way down the stairs towards the cellar I hid behind one of the huge barrels, the ground covered in rat faeces but I didn’t care. If the guards found me I was dead, completely innocent but framed by my cousin.
My Father has been king for over 50 years, a lengthy rain for any man given the amount of wars we have been forced to enter. Our forces are second to none, though although we only control a small amount of land it is highly defendable and with the good soldiers and defence mechanisms we have, practically impenetrable. But my father has been sick for nearly 5 years now, our captains and generals have held the fort over those years while my father slowly dies, no priest has figured out his ailment, and no guard dares let a shadow priest or necromancer near him in fear they do more damage.
But my cousin, King Martin Roth is a vicious and greedy man, invading and conquering like it was a pass time... Just like his father did before him. The only reason he hasn’t invaded us yet was due to the fact we are family, but with my father sick, he hopes to take over my father’s kingdom and add it to his list of Kingdoms he already owns.
Needless to say, I am the obstacle in his path, the rightful air to the throne, hence why the Palace Guards are looking for me, my cousin’s spies framing me for theft, theft of the Kings Jewel to be exact. My father’s prized possession which he kept safe on a necklace he never takes off, so with me being one of few allowed to see him while he is ill, all blame fell to me.
Hiding behind the barrel, I couldn’t see the door opening but the yellow light of the guard’s torch instantly lit up the dark cellar. Closing my eyes and huddling up into a small ball I listened to every step he took, the sound echoing around the room as I was struggling to remain calm with every step getting closer and closer.
“Do this, do that...one day I’ll be captain and then no more lug work for me” the Soldier muttered to himself, barely paying attention around him as after he gave the cellar a brief half hearted check from the doorway he turned and walked away, heading back up the stairs to the Captain.
Once the door had closed and his footsteps sounding like he was at the top of the stairs I let out a deep sigh of relief, glad he was a troubled man and not dedicated to his job.
I waited for what I thought was an hour, but there was no way of telling. Sometime later the owner came down the stairs with a smile on his face telling me that the guards had left.
“So tell me young prince, what are they framing you for?” the Tavern Keeper asked sitting me down on a chair whilst the drunk men and woman of the bar all stopped their conversations to listen.
“King Martin Roth’s spies have stoles my father’s necklace, the one he never takes off.” I replied downtrodden as I thought about the fact that I could no longer go back home, not with the guards after me.
“Anyway, as prince, you have done nothing wrong to us simple folk; in fact I heard that you convinced your father to clean up the city, cleared up the rat infestation we had as well as breaking down militia groups” the tavern keeper said to me causing me to blush slightly.
“I just told dad of the problem, he fixed it. He never leaves the palace so he knows nothing of life outside it” I answered honestly causing people to smile and nod.
“Well we are in your debt, so we will help you” the tavern keeper said confidently, standing up straight and clapping his hands together once like it was a completed deal.
“Help me how?” I asked curiously looking up at him whilst he let out a mischievous grin.
“Help your escape the city, your face is rather well known and no doubt the guards will put a bounty on your head. We all have contacts, we will get you out of the city and into freedom” he said whilst a woman to my side stood up confidently.
“That’s a dangerous move; he will be in dangerous areas, with people who will just consider him an orphan. Plus with King Martin controlling practically everything outside this city, once he finds out your in his territory there will be a man hunt for your head my prince. I suggest hiding in this city, we will help you train to hide, to remain hidden and to escape any situation” she said confidently getting a resounding cheer of agreement from the rest of the bar.
“Thank you, If I could I would pay you your weight in gold for helping me” I told her causing her to giggle and give a little curtsey.
“Firstly we need to leave here, get you a change of clothes and into the thieves’ guild, they will teach you to hide. And I will train you to fight.” The woman said confidently walking towards me and holding her hand out for me to take.
“Thank you for hiding me, I never did catch your name” I asked facing the Tavern keeper causing him to chuckle “Finley, call me Finley. And it’s no problem our cellar will always be open for you to hide in” he joked causing the tavern to laugh again whilst I couldn’t help but chuckle.
Taking the woman’s hand I walked out the tavern with her. Her body leading me into several back alleys I didn’t know of, after walking down some rather small gaps between buildings we came out in what could only be described as a small courtyard, a square of openness trapped in between four brick walls. The walls on my right I recognised as the great stone wall that surround and protected out city whilst the walls on my other sides were from buildings, houses I presume but I had no way to tell.
“Look ere fella’s, it’s ol felicity crow... come back to take another stab at Arathor have ya?” a man chuckled rather menacingly, surprising me with his presence as it seemed like he just emerged from the shadows.
“Stand down Jonny, I am here to talk to Arathor” Felicity replied, noticing the high tension between this woman and what seemed like the thieves guild in general.
“Nobody talks to Arathor, especially conniving little sluts like yourself” Jonny spat back a few chuckles bouncing around the cold night from shadows, my eyes darting around trying to track the source of their noise but I was met with what looked like an empty courtyard bar the two adults arguing and myself.
“That is terrible language to use, and in front of the prince no less. Now go get Arathor before I change you five finger discounts to a no fingered one” Felicity replied, the man’s jaw dropping as she mentioned prince, his eyes watching over me carefully whilst I stood behind felicity.
“Why didn’t you mention he was the prince, wait right here” Jonny said sounding like he was trying to be apologetic before hurrying off through a secret door in the wall of a house, making his way down some steps.
“Stick with me, these thieves only have one thing on their mind, money. So don’t think they won’t try and use you to get some” Felicity said sternly whilst still holding onto my hand. Leading me down the steps we walked into the heart of the thieves guild base, several dozen men wearing a leather uniform looked to be teaching some younger kids how to climb over obstacles whilst some other men in uniform were sat surrounded by locks with the young kids trying to pick them.
“I told you to wait up there, can you not follow the most basic of instructions” Jonny said shouting across the large room at Felicity whilst standing next to a man who was clearly the oldest in the room, possible around the age of 50 but he moved with an ease I had not seen in any man his age, like his body was 30 years younger than his mind.
“Felicity, please excuse Jonny, he’s worked a long shift, please tell me what I or we can do you for?” Arathor asked rather kindly which surprised me, possible acting nice because he knew I was the prince. I was no stranger to two faced people, everybody gave me respect simply because I’m the prince yet when I spy on people for fun I listen to them complain about everybody, me, the city, the king.
“I presume you know of the rumour that our prince here is a thief” Felicity said whilst Arathor nodded, it was his business to know everything, and it was his job to find a way to exploit it. “Well, apart from the fact his is been framed by King Martin, he cannot enter the palace again, because he will be arrest on sight. I need you to take care of him, teach him to hide, teach him to survive” Felicity said calmly and confidently remaining polite but forceful about what she wanted for me.
“And what do we get out of it” Arathor asked with a greedy smile, looking down at me and seeing only money. “Well look at it this way, if you don’t help and our prince is caught, he will be executed, our king will eventually die and this kingdom taken over by King Martin. Now frankly I don’t want to live in a land ruled by King Martin”.
“Point taken. Fine, we will take the prince, but he is to be trained our way, so don’t be dropping by expecting a social visit” he said cockily causing Felicity to smirk. “I will be back in 4 months with an associate of the trust, there are things which must be dealt with” Felicity said before turning to face me. “Train hard and don’t get yourself killed, you have great potential” she said while softly running her hand down my jaw to my chin before walking away, her hand the last thing to leave my skin as I almost felt sad to see her go, even though I had only met her less than an hour ago.
“Right, now if you’re going to train with us then we can’t be calling your prince all the time, so why don’t you tell me about yourself and give me a name you would like to be called” Arathor said swiftly moving the conversation on as he put his arm around my shoulder leading me away from the main room into a small office which I guessed was his.
“My names Khalo, I don’t really know how to describe myself” I said to the man, my mind struggling to think of any way to describe myself whilst he chuckled at my confused facial expressions.
“Well Khalo, why don’t you tell me how old you are, you can’t be any older than 15” he asked as I smiled “14, though my birthday is in a few months” I said excitedly as he chuckled “Ok, we’ll have you got any tricks or talents, something that not everybody can do” he asked curiously as I thought about it for a moment. “I’m guess I’m quite good a spying already, I like to spy on the guards and try not to be seen” I told Arathor who just smiled at me. “Any preferences towards things; elements, animals, light, darkness. You might have a magical quality which we could plan for.” He asked as I shrugged thinking back to my times reading in the palace library, all the different magical powers out in the world available to those lucky enough to get one. “Not that I know of, I guess I’m just an average human” I answered rather sadly. Having a magical power was the best, those who had them instantly became famous and were the champions of kingdoms.
“Come, let me show you to your quarters, you need rest as your training starts at 5am tomorrow” Arathor said to me leading me to a corridor into a large room full of beds.
Stepping up to the bed Arathor had pointed to I could hear the story the elderly man in the corner was reading. “Not many children can read or write and Winston using to be a scholar, nowadays he reads the children stories of great thieves and heroes” Arathor whispered to me whilst I sat down on the bed. “Get some rest khalo, you going to need it” he said quietly yet with a bit of sternness in his voice before leaving the room.
Lying on my side I closed my eyes, listening to Winston read his story, a story I recognised as the Dragon lords. People born with the qualities of a dragon; strength, power and wisdom, their main ability were being able to change forms between their humans and dragon selves at will. But they have long since died out, none live today though wild dragons do still live in the mountains.
Drifting off to sleep once the story had be told, I was surprised to be awoken by a voice in my head, it was calling me but it wasn’t using my name, sitting up in bed I listened to the voice trying to figure out if it was coming from within my head or outside it.
Standing up I quietly made my way along the stone floor out of the bedroom, the voice repeating the world “Hunter”, the soft feminine voice sounded almost ethereal no human voice could replicate how that word sounded in my head but it was confusing.
Did she mean I was a Hunter or my name is Hunter, trying to think about it was actually making my brain hurt but I felt compelled to continue walking, no idea of where I was going but somehow knowing I was going in the right direction.
“The Hunter has awoken” the voice softly surprising me again with the new words as I recognised the stairs I was now climbing as the ones I went down to enter the thieves guild.
Opening the panel I got my first breath of fresh air and I felt my eyes instantly get heavy, my mind swirling as I blacked out.
Looking out into the darkness I could see everything in pristine detail from the cracks in the wall to each blade of grass, my sense of smell picking up a range of herbs, breads and most importantly... meats.
Jumping up onto the roof I looked out over the city finding my target being a butchers on the other side of the city I leapt from roof to roof making my way towards it.
As my body raced my mind was calm and clear, only three thoughts entered my mind on my little run, who I was which I knew was Hunter, Where I could get food and the fact that I was starving, but not just starving I was famished like I hadn’t eaten in days.
Jumping down from the roof I hide in the shadow, my red and orange eyes looking out into the dark of night as I could smell the meat radiating from behind those wooden panels. Using a single claw I stabbed it through the keyhole breaking the lock allowing me to just push the door open, the smell of lamb, pork and beef filling my noise was also filling me with joy, my mouth already salivating with anticipation.
Biting into the lambs I relished every mouthful, the meat still bloodied and tender which only made it better. Hearing the floorboards above my creak I got a good whiff of a new smell, not as good as the smell of lamb or beef but it was warm, and warm meat beat this cold meat any day of the week. This warm meat was mine, I didn’t want to share, I didn’t have to share, I could devour it all on my own.
Dropping down to the floor I crept on my hands and toes up the stairs, I had to stalk my prey, to catch it by surprise or else I would get caught, and if I got caught I couldn’t relish in my catch.
Hearing a voice talk I stopped just by the door. I listened to their footsteps and voice positioning them in the room as I knew there were only two targets in the room. Hearing the heavier target with the deeper voice move towards the door I silently dug my claws into the wall and climbed up onto the ceiling, my claws holding my there as I looked down at the two targets leave their bedroom.
“Did you hear that, I heard a bang” the smaller target said leading the larger one down the stairs, the smaller one looking scared whilst the larger one looked too tired to pay attention.
Silently dropping down to the floor I followed them down the stairs. “Oh my, Look something’s been at the lamb” the woman shouted as I instinctively knew if I didn’t act now I would be caught. Pouncing onto the man I sent my claws straight into his neck and sides and just as he landed I pounced on the smaller target who looked like she was about to scream. Biting into her neck I literally took her voice away, her warm bloodied meat so tantalising, it was like eating happiness.
Taking my time to relish my kill I devoured my targets, enjoying every last morsel till the only thing that remained was bone and ligaments.
“Is everything alright in here” a voice called as I quickly darted across the room and under a desk. Watching the man in uniform step into the butchers followed his movements. He was alone, nervous the smell of fear was pungent on him.
These were my kills, I don’t want to share.
At the second her turned the corner and saw my two prized kills I leapt out clawing at him. The guard managed to dodge slightly but my claws caught his arm causing him to yell out. Silencing him immediately I sliced at his throat but I could instantly hear footsteps from the next house along.
It was a tough choice to decided whether to stay or flee but I knew that they longer I stayed the more chance I had at being caught. Running on all fours from the Butchers I was met just outside by a large burley target holding a sword, its silver blade glinting in the starlight whilst I quickly tore through him and continued on running.
Seeing other people spot me, whilst I fled. I clawed at their throats silencing them before they could scream, their bodies dropping to the floor whilst I made my way back to where I came from.
“Khalo, are you alright my body, Khalo” a voice shouted as I opened my eyes, my blurred vision noticed the pale blueness of the daytime sky whilst a few faces standing over me were starting to come into focus. “Ugh, Where am I” I asked feely groggy and confused whilst trying to remember what happened to me. “Get him inside before somebody see’s him and clean up this blood” Arathor said firmly whilst I could feel my body being picked up off the ground. “Blood, what blood” I thought as I tried to look at where I was lying whilst being carried away but my eyes got heavy and everything blurred into blackness before I could see.
Waking up later I clutched hold of my head trying to relieve in any way I could the sharp pain radiating around my head. “Khalo, look at me, tell me what happened last night” Arathor said looking firmly at me as I opened my eyes to look at him, his body flinching and leaning back slightly when I looked at him. “I don’t know” I said confused at why he was backing away from me.
“Start from the beginning, you went to bed, then what happened” he asked as I tried to relieve the events from last night. “I woke up to a voice in my head, it was calling me. I followed it outside, then everything went blurry and dark” I said whilst he looked at me sternly “You don’t remember doing anything else” he asked as I shook my head “I don’t even remember the name the voice called me with, just that it wasn’t Khalo” I said as he stood up and paced around my room.
“You better not be lying to me boy, I’ve got reports of over dozen deaths, people torn apart in the dead of night, the market place is destroyed and we find you lying on the ground covered in blood” he said rather angrily. Looking down at myself for the first time I panicked at the amount of blood on my body, my whole body covered like I had bathed in it.
“I didn’t kill anybody, maybe I was being control, and I heard that some priests can do that. It’s probably my cousin trying to get me executed. I passed out and then bad things happen, and I wake up in the same spot I passed out” I argued trying to think of a good reason for them not to hand me over to the palace guard.
“Clean yourself up, I’m locking you in a cell tonight, in case you or that priest tries to go on another little murdering spree” he said firmly before walking out of the room, the two men who I guessed where his protection followed behind their leader.
Unable to process any thought about last night clearly I decided to clean myself up. Stripping my clothes down I got into the bath and started washing myself and my clothes in it. The warm crystal clear water turned instantly to red, the warmed up blood dripping down my arms and face into the water only to increase the darkness of the red in the water.
Rubbing my clothes together the blood was quickly coming off as I hung them up to dry on the clothes line hanging above the tub.
“Officer Timber, our spies in the thieves’ guild have reported that it was the prince who murdered those civilians” Corporal Steve Rodgers said confidently looking to his officer for direction and instructions. “Are you sure, the prince is only a boy, how could he of created such a scene” Mark Timbers replied surprised that the thieves guild named the prince, they were great spies but not known for fabricating lies.
“Relay this message to Officer Thatcher, ask for his opinion and tell him that I suggest we track down the prince before nightfall, if he agrees, carry it out. Use the city guard if you have to” Mark said giving his order to the Corporal who saluted before walking away hastily.
“My King, the prince has been framed and he did flee the castle as your predicted” Captain Elizabeth Vetro said proudly to the king as she knelt before him in his throne room. “Good, with the prince’s reputation in ruin the people won’t care about him, I am tasking you with his death, make it swift and painless, he is family after all” King Roth replied back to his Captain, his smile widening before chuckling at the end after giving Elizabeth her order. “Yes my King”.
“Timothy, rally up your team, I’m sending you into Stonesforge to kill the prince. Disguise yourself in any way you like, as long as he dies and you get out undetected” Elizabeth ordered walking with the lieutenant as they made their way for the Labrynthia city gates. “Are you coming to assist us” Timothy asked curious by his Captains presence. “I will be setting up a camp near Silverstone in the forest, I have other business in the area but you will return to me when the task is done” Elizabeth said confidently as she walked up to her horse. “Are you sure I need my team for this, he is just a boy, easily scared and hiding from everybody, he will be easy to find” Timothy asked hoping his team could have a bit of a break seeing as they had just come back from a 4 month undercover mission in Ransen to quell their uprising.
“Take your team, the prince has always been beloved by the people, the king predicts that because he hasn’t already been caught, he has found help with the thieves guild in Stonesforge, there is also talk that Felicity Crow is in Stoneforge so watch out for her as she can spot a spy from a mile away” Elizabeth said causing Timothy to gulp, his mind racing over their last encounter and all the stories he had heard about her.
“I didn’t kill those people” I shouted from my cell. Helga Cotton trying to teach me about the city life from behind the cell door, “And I believe you, young prince. But we have to train you to survive so when the time comes you can escape this city and live a life of your own” Helga said stopping mid sentence to answer my plea.
“You are safe, we are safe, now there’s nothing more to do apart from train. Now tell me, how many paces should you be when following somebody?” she asked as I sighed “20 paces” I answered my attention shifting and focusing on her lesson rather than getting out of this cage.
“Correct, now. When you following somebody, you mustn’t watch them, it’s obvious and once they know their being followed they won’t lead you to the destination you want them to go, a good tip here is to bring a friend, talk your friend and walk aimlessly, but you have to look like you’re walking aimlessly. Talk about old times or future plans, normal conversation which will be overlooked by anybody who hears it” Helga said as I listened smiling in knowledge that it was a good tactic though a bit sad seeing as I had no friends to talk to. “We are thieves, we don’t kill. If your with a partner it’s best to use each other to make it easier, have one friend distract the target while the other pickpockets them” she continued as I just sat on the ground listening to her with my back against the wooden door.
As her lesson went on I paid attention taking in what she had to say though my mind did occasionally drift when she went on about all these tactics I could do with a friend.
When the day came to an end, Helga finished up with a talk about pick locking, seeing as outside of this city I was unknown and thus an orphan to them, orphans can and will be taken from wherever they are and sold into slavery, usually to craftsmen or tradesmen who need help but don’t want to hire any.
Saying good night to Helga after nearly 7 hours of her company was sad, I tried to think of the last time I spent nearly half that time with anybody and I was struggling, even the maids in the palace would be nice to me but quickly leave to do the rest of their work, not even my father spent much time with me, I mean I spent dozens of hours by his side while he was ill but I was just sat there, there was no communication.
Drifting off to sleep on the straw bed, I was upset when I heard the same voice in my head again. “They’ve caged Hunter, Hunter must be free” the voice repeated, banging on the cell door I repeated everything the voice said, repeating myself a dozen times over as the voice seemed to be getting angrier that I wasn’t moving.
“Free Hunter, Hunter must free” the voice echoed, no longer in my head but vibrating off every wall in the city. “You cannot cage Hunter, You must release him or your cities will be flooded with blood” the voice screamed now causing people to panic.
I could hear the screams of woman from the surface as well as roaring from the dragons above the city. “Keep him locked up” Arathor shouted whilst everybody was heading up to the surface.
Staring up in disbelief hundreds of dragons sat on the magical force field dome that protected the city. “Free Hunter, Hunter must be freed” the voice echoed whilst the dragons were all breathing fire down onto the force field.
“Is Khalo still secure” Arathor said confidently whilst Helga nodded and handed him the key to my cell. “Can they get through the barrier” Jonny asked whilst everybody stood in the open looking up at the dragons above them. “I’ve never seen them come so low before, I doubt they could get through, that barrier is designed to withstand meteor strikes” Arathor said with pride though he was hoping the rumours of the barrier were true.
“Hunter has awaken” the voice said, the dragons all stopping at once before flying away.
Opening my eyes I looked around the room I was in before getting angry. I had been caught, I mustn’t be caught, being caught it weak and I must be strong.
Swiping my claws at the wall I was only met with scratch marks, swiping harder and more furiously I painted the walls in claw marks before noticing deeper marks on the a particular area of the pitch black cage.
Focusing on the soft spot that was the door I charged forward, slamming my shoulder into the door causing my body to fly forward shattering the wooden barrier into a dozen pieces whilst causing a large crash to echo around the larger cage I found myself in.
Searching the corridors I clawed at the walls finding my way around the maze of tunnels and cells by tracking my own claw marks. Finding light at the end of the tunnel I charged towards it, my eyes finding familiar ground causing me to change direction and head for towards the exit I knew of.
“What did it mean Hunter has awaken” Jonny asked nervously as the city seemed to become deathly silent. “Hunter, that was the name Khalo couldn’t remember. Khalo is Hunter” Arathor said piecing it together before being startled by a loud crash.
“What was that” Jonsey Mac asked fearfully as more crashing and banging come from the tunnel. “Everybody hide” Arathor said whilst rushing to the nearest shadow and disappearing from sight. In less than a few seconds all 50 people had vanished leaving the courtyard empty.
“Free Hunter, Hunter must be free” was all they heard echoing from the tunnel leading down into their base. “Helga lay a trap” Arathor whispered, his voice echoing around the silent courtyard as all they heard next was a roar, I deafening roar which was almost screech like. Silently laying the trap Helga listened as my pounding footsteps could be heard getting closer and closer to the entrance.
Hearing the sounds bounding up the staircase nobody could see what I looked like due to the speed I seemed to be travelling at but at the split second I saw sky, my eyes become heavy and my head went dark. Blacking out I stepping into the trapped sending myself hurtling into the ground, rolling with sheer momentum I slowly came to a stop at the feet of Arathor, my body looking no worse for wear as he struggled to understand how such a small body could create a voice so deep and a mess sound deafening.
“Get him back in his cell, tomorrow we get him out the city, let him tear up the other kingdoms” Arathor said firmly getting an instant nod of agreement from everybody also who had emerged from the shadows.
“Oh no you don’t, I told you to train him, and train him you shall, you just need a stronger cage” Felicity said jumping down from a nearby roof having been undetected by all of the thieves. “He has killed people, innocent people. I only accepted him because he was a lonely defenceless prince. You heard him, he is nothing but dangerous. It’s clear the dragons want him, I say we let them have him” Arathor said firmly kicking my body over so that I lay on my belly. “Oh Arathor, you are so used to giving orders that you don’t see it when you’ve been given one. You will train this boy or else the guild will have to start looking for successors” she said viciously putting fear into the heart of Arathor. “Get him inside, and start gathering materials to build a new cage” Arathor said trying to regain a bit of dominance over his guild.
“Captain, permission to speak openly” Timothy asked as he rode casually alongside Elizabeth and his team on their way to Silverstone. “Granted” Elizabeth replied calmly, glad that the silence was broken, “How do you know Felicity Crow, earlier today you acted like you knew her” Timothy asked perking the attention of the rest of his team who rode up closer to listen.
“Felicity Crow is the assassin, the most well documented assassin known to date, some believe she is the leader of the Assassin’s trust, whilst others believe she is all alone taking justice into her own hands. All we know is the she is impossible to kill and she is not worth the men we’ve lost in attempts to arrest her” Elizabeth said firmly holding back the more valuable information from him.
Unsatisfied with the information given the group went back to their silence, Elizabeth and Timothy up front leading the team whilst everybody else was on look out for bandits, dragons and other creatures who hated King Roth and his Guards.
“Khalo wake up” Arathor shouted, kicking on the metal nearby causing me to start swinging. “Huh, Where I am?” I asked as I woke up from my deep sleep. “You’re in a new cage, stronger than the last. You won’t be escaping now” Arathor said with a smile as I sat down, a part of me happy that I was locked up and keeping people safe whilst another part of me hated being in cage, like I had been caught, it made me look weak.
“Now for today’s lesson Mark will be teaching you about prices and fencing off items along with Dippy” Arathor said before turning and walking away, passing two men who were walking straight towards me. “Khalo it’s a pleasure to meet you” the short dumpy man said as I presumed he was Dippy, the other man I recognised instantly. He was part of the Palace guard.
“Traitor” I spat at him causing him to chuckle “Never, I was always a thief but I spy for the guild about everything going on in the castle. I’m not a traitor before I was a thief first” he said confidently whilst I just glared at him.
“Now Dippy here is our fence for general items, if you get yourself a hold of any general goods like food, medicine, clothing, Dippy is the one who can take it off your hands” Mark said calmly as I just remained seated in my new hanging cage, below me being a large pool of water I presumed the sewers created.
“When you’ve broken into a house and searching the area for expensive items, the items you are looking for are gems, small, light and the most expensive. Don’t be going for large golden ornaments because chances they are nearly always fake. Jewellery sells easily but in most cases what you’re looking for is a key, a key to their safe which will nearly always be down in the cellar” he told me as I listened, paying careful attention though looking away acting disinterested.
“The safe is the prize, deed’s, family heirlooms, pouch upon pouch of coin and all the important documents they want hidden away and kept safe. These documents aren’t a waste they can provide good opportunities to blackmail and exploit those people for more money”
“If the owners are in the house I recommend only going for the safe, if they are away and you know you won’t be disturbed. You can go for the large items, armour, weapons, and bars of metal. Most people do this sort of jobs in groups of 4 or 5 so you can empty out the house quickly whilst your team makes relaying trip to the guild base” He explained to me whilst I was leaning back and staring up at the brick ceiling.
For a few more hours I listened to them talk about what sort of items to look for, what price things can go for and the best way to remain undetected.
When lunch time I was glad to be given a bowl of stew with a bit of bread, but as I was eating Jonsey Mac came up to my cage with a huge smile on his face. “Alright little one, I’m going to be teaching you probably the most important thing about being a thief... how to move silently” he said as this actually perk my interest causing me to turn my head and look at him. “Yeah, now you like me” he joked his grin still wide with excitement as he walked along the path going around my cage.
“To begin with, it’s all about taking your time. Rushing was cause you to make noise and get detected so firstly we focus on stance, always remain light on your toes, don’t be bouncing around as you will be seen but take slow steps placing each step with care” he explained to me whilst moving along the path silently in the way he explained.
“Shadows are a great hiding place, simply because it’s dark and you can remain hidden. If there are no shadows or your working in a place that’s well light I suggest purchasing one of these” he said pulling out a long hollow tube. “It’s basically just a long bit of wood but, they are easy and cheap to buy so you can destroy them after you to hide the evidence. Just blow through the tube and it can extinguish small flames over 20 yards away, meaning you can remain in the shadows and take away the light”
“The next part it a little tricky as I would be best to practice your movement but try and stand in a silent position, I’m going to turn around and I want you to move to another part of your cage without me hearing you” Jonsey said as I nodded watching him turned around as I stood up.
“Heard you” Jonsey said instantly at the moment I stood up. “Try again” he said whilst I tried to move to the other side. “Heard you again” he said causing me to groan out in annoyance “Definitely heard that” he chuckled whilst I slumped down to the ground. “Keep trying” he told me as I smirk, and idea popping into my head that felt almost instinctual.
Silently gripping onto the bars of the cage I lifted myself up, using my feet as well I climbed up the side of the cage until I under the dome at the top. It was up here that I noticed a gap in the bars that looked big enough for me to climb through though I decided it was best to keep that information to myself.
Looking down at Jonsey I watched as he turned around and looked stunned before looking up and chuckling. “Very good, now come down” he told me as I dropped down from the top of the cage landing on my hands and feet.
That night I was tired after all the training me and Jonsey went through, my legs ached from walking in silent circles whilst he had also been teaching me some self defence moves like how to deflect incoming blows from fists or swords.
I hoped I would be too tired to move and that I would remain in my cage but when the voice started again I felt full of life and energy. “Hunter must be free, Hunter must escape” the voice said in my head as I felt nothing but the desire to be free, no concern about other people’s safety just that fact that I needed to be out of this cage.
Climbing up the side of the cage I squeezed myself through the gap in the bars and silently made my way out of the base. Climbing up the stairs I got my first breath of fresh air and my first look at the stars which caused my eyes to get heavy, my body never making it to the top step of the stairs before blacking out.
Opening my eyes to the night sky I felt a burning hunger in my stomach, I hadn’t eaten in a while and I needed food. Finding new knowledge in my head I lifting my claws up so that I was walking on the pads of my feet, my movements silent as I can hear whispers coming from outside.
Sniffing the air and remaining hidden on the steps I could smell each thief hiding in the shadows. After pinpointing all four of them I leapt out, pouncing onto the closest one before jumping to the next one. In a matter of seconds all of the four guards were dead, I was safe again and able to enjoy my kills.
Diving my face into the body I ate all the organs before working on the large muscles these men all rather lean and thin making the muscles all string and tasteless. Having tasted a bit of each thief I moved onwards hoping to find a new delicious target.
Creeping along the shadows in the ally’s I had found my next kill, a large target with excessive hair, but a huge belly which look delectable. Watching him patrol the courtyard I snuck into the shadows of the bushes. Remaining silent I stood in his path waiting for him to get close enough for me to pounce.
Watching as he unknowingly walked past me I waited till his back was facing me before I attacked. Leaping out of the bushes, I had my jaw clamped around his neck silencing him before he could even make a squeak. Dragging my kill back into the bushes I started to eat my kill, this meat more juicy and full of flavour.
It took me nearly 30minutes to finish my kill and when I was done I felt positively full. Walking around in the shadows of the grassy courtyard I found myself looking at a pond. Poking my head out I looked at my reflection, my large jaw with serrated teeth was dripping with blood, my red and orange eyes sparkled liked rubies in the moonlight.
Looking down at my feet I remembered knowledge of covering my tracks. Slowly stepping into the pond I rolled around making a fair bit of noise as I rinsed myself of blood stains.
Climbing out again I snuck along the shadows making my way back to where I awakened. Creeping down the steps I saw the cage and with every bit of hatred for myself I silently climbed up the side and lay back down inside.
“When we get to Silverstone, Jenna I want you to gather items to create suitable disguises” Timothy said as they continued to walk along the worn down grass that was the path to Silverstone. “Yes boss” Jenna replied quickly.
“Sean you strip the horses down to the bare essentials” Timothy ordered to Sean who smiled happily at his order, the last few trips he had been on alibi duty which was always hard and complicated.
“We’re going in as priests from Haygue. That should grant us an easy access. Then we leave as merchants delivering cloth to Labrynthia” Timothy said firmly giving that a rather good alibi.
“How is this possible Arathor, he hasn’t left the cage” Helga asked nervously to her leader, both of them pacing quietly around my hanging cage in which Khalo was currently sleeping in.
“I don’t know dear, maybe we were wrong to accuse him of murder. He may of been trying to help the other victims, serious trauma has been known to cause memory problems, the brain trying to remove the memory of such sights” Arathor speculated trying to figure out how more people cause die in the same manor whilst Khilo remained trapped.
“But last night, that loud cash and banging, it was HIS body that came flying out of the tunnel. He is the murderer but we just don’t know how he managed to sneak out and in” Helga said with a venom to her tongue that Arathor hadn’t heard in a long time.
“Indeed, but we need proof that he is the murderer, we need to catch him in the act”
Walking down towards the city barracks Steve Rodgers looked around at the civilians looking out for thieves and ruffians hoping that he could vent his anger into some justice. Not only had they lost the prince but the fact that there was now a violent murderer in the city was causing panic. People were locking up their stalls earlier in the evening and dead bolting every door and window; trade has dropped significantly as no travelling tradesmen wants to enter the city.
“Corporal Rodgers, what can we help you with” General Colt asked in a rather firm yet curious manner, the presence of a palace guard was a rare occurrence, they palace guard were elite fighters far more capable than any of the city guards and they only every come down from the palace when they need more numbers to complete their mission.
“The traitor prince is somewhere in the city, I am requesting that you check each and every person that tries to get in or out of the city, also I would request a search for the prince within the city, I presume he is being hidden by the thieves and I am hoping you have a few undercover guards in place” Corporal Rodgers asked confidently making his request sound more like an order whilst General Colt just sat back in his chair looking at the corporal.
“Can’t the all mighty palace guard catch one fourteen year old child” general colt mocked enjoying the superiority over the corporal.
“Not when we have little knowledge of the city map, if he was still in the palace then trust me when I say that his blood would of stained our floors on the first day the warrant for his arrest was issued” Rodgers replied coldly sending shivers down Colts spine at the man’s ability to follow orders even if it meant killing a child, let alone a prince.
“Very well Corporal, your requests are granted you will have control over my men to catch your prince, in return your men will help us catch our elusive murderer” General Colt bargained which Corporal Rodgers had no choice but to accept, he needed the help and the generals numbers would make his task infinitely easier.
“My King, I’m afraid the people of Ransen are rebelling again, it appears the thieves and the assassins are backing them, carts of supplies are going missing and every captain you’ve put in charge has wound up dead and their head spiked” Micheal said whilst King Martin Roth stood in his war room with a map of the land in front of him, his forces built up in the fortress that was Labrynthia the dozens of watch towers that encircled his fortress prevented those pesky assassins from mounting an attack on him.
“Very well, let them have Ransen, cut all supplies going there as well as trade. Let them starve in freedom” King Roth answered viciously moving his little soldier statues away from Ransen and up to Fort Mason which was to the south of Port.
“Also we have also noticed an increasing amount of dragon attacks on Daggers Hilt Fort and Silverstone” Micheal continued hoping to get a good answer like dragon hunting. “Dragons huh, are they attacking humans” King Roth asked curiously as dragons weren’t overly aggressive, their pallets usually going for livestock or sea life. “Only livestock at the moment, there have been a few close calls where farmers have tried to fend off the dragons to protect the livestock but it’s unusual for the dragons to prey on animals so close to our settlements” Michael replied disappointed about the King disinterest.
“Send a few more guards to both locations lock as many animals as you can inside and have the guards protect the remainder, put a prize on a dragon head, 500 coins for the head of a dragon. That should get us a few volunteers” King Roth said with a rather sadistic smile, Michael walking happy that he got the answer he wanted.
Waking up in the morning I was glad to find myself all clean and inside my cage, though everybody stood around my cage watching me with anger in their eyes. “What, I’ve been in here all night” I said defensively as Arathor just stared at me whilst other people were looking for the smallest hint of something so they could unleash their rage upon me.
“A total of 5 men died last night, four of whom were guarding the entrance to our base. Care to explain how that happened” Arathor asked calmly as I sat up in the middle of the cage. The few fire’s lit made the large open area rather ominous.
“We know he’s guilty, Kill him before he kills us” one of the thieves shouted in rage, trying to spur on the rest of the guild who quickly got behind the bold thief.
“No, even if he is a murderer, he is still the prince” Arathor said firmly putting the thieves back in their place causing them to look away from me in disgust. “Traitorous Prince you mean” another thief sneered whilst remaining hidden in the crowd of guild members. “Framed” I shouted in reply to the comment.
“Complete his training today, that fulfils our contract with Felicity, after that send him out into the city, let the guards pick him up and handle him” Arathor said firmly not wanting to be one to not complete his end of a deal.
“You can’t be serious Arathor, you expect us to train this murderer, in ways to survival and escape, so he can what. Kill more” Helga said firmly as people quickly sided with her. “Complete his training today, and kick him out by nightfall, then put the base into lockdown” Arathor ordered out to everybody before walking away leaving the trainers stood there a little dazed from his willingness to still train the prince.
Walking passed the remnants of an ambushed wagon, Elizabeth, Timothy and his team were all on the lookout for bandits as this was a highly situational spot to hold an ambush.
“Dismount” Timothy said firmly as everybody quickly climbed off their horses, drawing out their weapons as they went. Moving forward at a slow pace everybody we scanned the forest trees for any signs of an ambush.
“ATTACK!!” a voice shouted from the canopy, several roars of men trying to scare us quickly followed as we saw dozens of bandits drops from the trees, and emerge from under piles of leaves.
With only two of Timothy’s team having a bow, they quickly started taking down bandits who sat in the trees with their own bow and arrows. The sound of sword against sword clashing together split through the forest air as the guards from Labrynthia easily outmatched the dozens of untrained and Ill-equipped bandits charging them.
Cutting down bandits with single blows, those smart enough started to run away fled into the forest. The bandit’s rangers so bad at aiming had missed their targets and fired their arrows into the horses, two of which had since ran for their lives whilst the remaining four lay dead on the ground bleeding out.
“Come on, let’s get to Silverstone” Elizabeth said taking control of the group as they all walked hastily along the path towards their destination.
“Good afternoon men, today we are looking for the prince. In return the palace guard will help you find your murderer. Now the left flank search the trade district, the temple district and the warrens whilst the right flank search the higher noble district, the noble district and crafters district” Corporal Steve Rodgers orders, the two groups of sixty men splitting up to search the area.
Searching their way through the districts every stall, house and alleyway was searched, no stone left unturned and no crate left unopened.
As the day was drawing to an ending I was being half heartedly trained on sleeper hold techniques and different ways to escape a fight. Though I could see it in their attitude that they hated themselves for possibly making me a better killer, “Ok Arathor, we’ve trained him on everything he needs to know, now get him out of here” Jonsey said angrily as Arathor said nothing. “Hold your breath Khalo” Arathor said with a evil grin as he raised his hands to signal something.
Instantly I started falling, the chain holding up my cage above water went slack, sinking quickly started to panic before managing to slide through the large gap at the top of the cage.
Treading water in the middle of the circle I looked around at everybody stared daggers into my heart. “Get out Khalo, GET OUT” Arathor shouted as I swam towards the edge, two hands hauling me out of the water before dragging me up the exit.
Reaching the outside world the threw me onto the floor before closing the door behind them, the sound of stone grinding filled the air space around me as when I got up to open to the door, there was nothing there but a new stone floor where the tunnel once was.
“Khalo” A familiar voice echoed out silently around me, my head darting around to find the voice as I a woman appeared directly in a spot I had checked a few times. “Felicity” I said happily, glad that it wasn’t a thief wanting to kill me. “I’m glad your training is complete, come we have much to discuss” she said before turning and walking away heading down an alley out into the city.
“Who are you?” I asked hopefully with a big amount of nervousness, “I am Felicity Crow, I am a member of the Assassins Trust, but I am also a member in a few other groups which you will come to know at a later date” she said as I had no answer to that, her formality stunning me.
“Where are we going?” I asked looking around and seeing palace guards searching an area whilst we had stopped in the end of an ally way hiding in the shadows.
“Remember your training, and follow me” Felicity said walking in the shadows making her way across the square to another alleyway, trying to stay close behind her I stood in her every footstep watching the guards carefully as I was surprised when I made the one hundred yard stretch unseen.
“You now understand that you’re not just yourself” Felicity said as I followed her closely while we walked through the city heading towards what I guessed was the city gates. “Do you know what I am?” I asked hopefully as she stopped, turned her head just to smile at me “We are the same. Technically, we don’t have a name but the name you may recognise is The Dragon Lords” she said before continuing on whilst I was gobsmacked “Dragon lords died out hundreds of years ago” I countered causing her to chuckle quietly. “True, but the Dragon Lords were only a small group of warriors. There are dozens of different types of dragons, the Dragon lords were all the largest and most powerful, but since that specie of dragon has died out, so did the human version” Felicity said as I was getting rather confused and lost.
“So how am I a dragon, I have two human parents” I asked as we made away onto a roof top looking down on the exit of the city. “You have the body of a human but the heart and soul of a dragon, it’s a rare gift” she said as I took a few deep breathes trying to calm myself down. “Explain it to me” I asked politely as she smiled at me again, occasionally glancing at the guards.
“Dragons are magical creatures, immune to nature and immensely powerful they are hated by all and hunted for sport. To combat their decreasing population they sought after the help of a powerful magician who cast a spell affecting every dragon’s genetics”.
“Every time a Dragon die’s by the hands of a human, a human of that dragon’s choice will become their successor, taking on their species, their power, and their personality. Not entirely of course but aspects of them. The Dragon also named you, and the voice in your head is their spirit guiding you” Felicity said as I had to sit down, this information too much to handle.
“So when I black out, it’s the dragon spirit taking over?” I asked as she nodded. “It’s hard at first but after a year or so you will start to gain control over the spirit and you won’t black out anymore, then you will be able to use their powers for your benefit” she said to me, though my head was still stuck on blacking out every night for an entire year.
“Now, climb down there and hide in the shadows, I’m going to distract the guards” Felicity said before picking up a few stones that lay on the roof and through them at the guards.
“Hey you, stop that” one of the guards shouted as Felicity stone conked the other on the head angering him. Watching them both run after felicity she dashed from roof to roof, before disappearing from my sight.
Climbing down I hid just to side of the entrance waiting for her return.
“Go quickly now” Felicity said surprising me as she stood behind me. Walking out into the light we casually walked out of the city and along the path hiding in the trees as we wanted to stay hidden.
“I will wait for you here, I expect you back within two weeks with news and proof that the prince is dead” Elizabeth said sternly as Timothy and his team were already packed up and ready to go. With no horses to ride, the all trudged off into the forest following the cliff line around making their way towards Stonesforge.
“Khalo, I need you to tell me whatever your dragon said to you. Old dragons, being over 1000 years old are smart enough to learn a language, human being the most common, dragons are not just animals but brilliant creatures, they live in a civilisation similar to the humans with a hierarchy, enforces, scholars, leaders and trouble makers. I will need to inform them that another has died, and who” Felicity asked kindly as we walked through the dense forest. I was completely lost but Felicity seemed to know where she was going and following what seemed to be normal, I followed her.
“The voice never says much, it was just the same words repeated until I hit fresh air and blacked out. First it was just the name ‘Hunter’ then it was about escaping’ Free Hunter, Hunter must be free” I confessed as Felicity sighed “You have a clever dragon, I’ll give you that. But who, I have no idea”
“How come it only happens at night?” I asked curiously causing Felicity to chuckle. “The voice is in your heart, your subconscious. It’s always there but your thoughts drown her out, I will be teaching you to empty you mind of thoughts to allow your dragon to speak up. As for the night part, you mind calms down at night, enough so for you to sleep and enough for your dragon to rise up” she explained to me.
“My king, I know you are deeply focused on your efforts dealing with the resistance, but we need to talk” Janvir said confidently getting the kings attention who didn’t look too happy when being disturbed. “What is it Janvir?” King Martin Roth shot back coldly, the fear and nervous quickly building up in Janvir who only took a deep breath and stepped forward.
“Excuse me for speaking but, you’ve been so focused on your war efforts that you have forgotten one of the most important aspects about being a king” Janvir said with some courage that he had saved up for such an occasion. “And what have I forgotten” the king asked furiously, the way Janvir was talking made him look like a failure.
“Your bloodline, you need an heir to carry on your legacy, to accomplish the things you might never get the chance to do” Janvir said hopefully as the king frowned knowing he hadn’t spent much time, if any looking for a wife though he was upset with the fact he was being called out on it. “I can breed an heir whenever I please, but this opportunity over the rebels will only last days, I will have a son when this war is over and the land is entirely mine” the king answered back aggressively, his desire to rule clearly higher than his desire to produce a prince.
“All I’m saying is it would be wise not to leave it too long, undoubtable you will rule for the remainder of your life and you can spend that time raising your sun to be every bit of a man you are, it’s not like you have to carry the child everywhere, you would have a wife and wet nurses for that” Janvir said with a sigh whilst the king was interested in the idea of not having to actually raise his child.
“A wife huh, and son, tell me what I would have to do” the king asked curiously, his own father dying in battle when he was young causing him to never to be taught about woman and such acts.
“You are only young yourself, so you may not have been told this, a fathers and husbands job is to support and protect his family. You have coin to support and guards to protect, you could marry a girl of your choosing and bed her that night, then continue working on your war efforts while she carries your child” Janvir proposed while the king thought about the girls he had bedded before to see if any where suitable for queenship, though they were mostly whores.
“After the child is born, some input would be required, you would train him on how to act, talk, and fight. A child’s mind is easily persuadable and he will instinctively follow in your footsteps to be more like you, this is if you have a son” Janvir continued raising concern in the king.
“What would happen if I had a daughter?” he asked curiously frustrated that he was never told of things that seemed so important now. “A daughter is a valuable piece in this chess game of life you play, she, when the time is right would be married off to a prince of another land, creating a bond between your countries allowing you to expand your kingdom or create more trade coming into the land”
“That is, if you want to sell her off”.
“Another option is that you could do the same with her as you would your son, train her up to be ferocious and dominant, she could rule as a queen, become pregnant when she chooses and raise the next heir, though I must warn you women are highly emotion people, attitudes will change in an instant and many are too kind and soft to rule, especially when your kingdoms are so many” Janvir explained, finishing his little speech whilst the king just stood there.
“Ok, you made your point, I will marry one of the whores I sleep with” the king said with a smile as Janvir sighed “I’m sorry my king, but your wife has to be of noble blood, no matter how attractive this whore is, she is still just a whore, and the son of a whore as king will provoke more resistance and they may attempt to dethrone you” Janvir said calmly whilst the king groaned.
“Well give me a list of who I can marry then” the king shot back as Janvir smiled, bowed then walked away.
“Are you sure about this plan guardian” the man said with as much respect as he could, the guardian, his and his peoples queen was a woman like no else. Beloved by all yet hidden from the rest of the world her kingdom lay in the forbidden fog.
“Yes, now stop pestering me and go fetch me my little ones” the said sternly dismissing her guard. Watching him walk away she slowly turned around once he was gone from sight, stepping up to the window she looked out over the mist and fog, the unnamed islands that have yet to be discovered, on a clear day she could almost see the land in which she came from, the smells and sounds of Port having become nothing but a distant memory, a dream vanishing with every new thought.
Granted her life was one of hardship and turmoil, the Guardian, Isabella was happy. Had it not been for the dragon who carried her back here to his nest, she would never of know of her abilities and end up queen of this land with an army unknown to the world yet a single mention would be fear deep into the heart of any king who opposed her.
“My queen, they are hungry, should I take them to the feeding room” the guard asked, walking back with several of the queens pets in tow.
“I shall do it, I am not queen of much so there is no reason for me to do nothing” Isabella said firmly walking up to her pets, their eyes lighting up with excitement when seeing their mothers face. “Come on my babies, I hear there’s some nice juicy beef downstairs for you” Isabella said with a obscene amount of joy before leading the half dozen little troublemakers down the corridor.
“Felicity?” I asked curiously as we walked through the forest in a direction only Felicity knew and to a location only Felicity knew. “Yes” she replied soothingly, her voice letting out a deep sigh at the arrival of yet another question from me. “If Dragonlords exist, does that mean all the other myths and legends exist?” I asked causing her to chuckle and smile down at me. “Some of them, Look it this way, we have magicians and priests, they sound a lot like legends but we still have them, dragon hybrids. Which is us. Are only slightly rarer than magicians” she said as I knew of dozens of legends about magicians.
“They why aren’t their more of us?” I asked quickly, not letting the conversation die down as we walked endlessly forward. “Because most dragons are angry when they die, angry for getting killed, so they pick a strong human and exact some revenge on the world. But hybrids aren’t as strong or as tough as actual dragons and the humans they pick tend to die quickly and thus goes the angry dragon” she explained to me as it did make sense.
“What about werewolves and zombies, what about vampires and trolls” I fired at her causing her to laugh out loud. “Well, tell me young prince, how are legends born and how are they spread” she asked as I thought about my answer for a moment.
“They are born in actions and spread in tales” I answered proudly, thinking that was a good answer. “Your half right. Legends are born in actions, but they are spread in tales within taverns, where minor parts of the tale are vastly exaggerated to make the story better” she said with a smile whilst I didn’t like the idea that people have lied about all the famous legends he had been told by the palace guards.
“Ten kills becomes ten thousand. A cut lip dripping blood down their jaw and a misunderstanding creates the legend of Vampires.” She said to herself though aloud enough for me to hear as I was rather upset that the world wasn’t as diverse as I was led to believe.
“General Decapita” Corporal Rodgers said confidently as he approached the general. “Good news I hope, Corporal” he said coldly not even bothering to look up from his model of the city with statuette guards stood at various points.
“Not exactly, our search of the city turned up nothing, but one of the city guards that was on the city gate watch told us about some commotion that happened down there. Now he claims it was Felicity Crow but all we got from him that a woman was seen running out of the city with a teenage boy alongside her” he said causing the general to sigh deeply. “Incompetent fools, Very well. I will handle this case now. You are dismissed” he ordered, not even looking up from his model city as Corporal Rodgers saluted and walked out.
