Chapter Eleven: Ashley’s Diary Part 1: The Slumber Party This is the story of Ashley’s misadventures after I left for college. When I said I was going to write my whole story Ash brought me the diary she had kept in high school. She had started writing down her feelings and the events of her life as a way to cope with not having me around to talk to anymore. I wanted to include them into the story but I wasn’t there at the time and didn‘t live it. This is why I had said we should have waited for a few years to see how we really felt. Last week I would’ve died for you. Today I don’t know if we were in love or if it was nothing more than a kid’s game. I’m sorry if this hurts you. I’m just being honest with my feelings. That’s one thing I will never do, I will never lie to you about how I feel. I never wanted to hurt you. I can’t stand the thought of more tears running down your beautiful face. Her thoughts were interrupted as the door opened. Katie laughed. “Sorry I don’t mean to laugh,” Katie told her, “It’s just I’ve been where he is before. When I left for college I left him a goodbye note as well” Ash saw the irony but didn’t find it funny. Ash told Katie what the note had said and they talk about what it. Katie told her that as much as it hurt maybe it was for the best at the moment. They were now in completely different places in life and in the country. Maybe space would help them figure out what they really wanted. In the meantime Katie said that she would find a way to make sure he was ok when he got to her. Ash really didn’t like Katie’s advice but she couldn’t deny that it would be next to impossible to work on their relationship when they wouldn’t be able to spend any time together for a year. Even at that she was supposed to go to Linda’s for the summer. If she did that she wouldn’t really see Joey for over a year and a half. She told her niece that she would always love him but for her, for now it was really over. The girls talked for another half hour when Katie said she had to go. Ash went back to her room and stayed there until school started the next week. Lilly had finally gotten after her and made her get up and get ready to go. She did as she was told and started her sophomore year of high school. She found as the school year began she had no interest in classes, school activities, or her friends. Jace didn’t argue he picked up his shorts and ran down the hall to his room. Ash went to the bathroom and cleaned herself up then took a shower. She felt sweaty and sticky, but the water revitalized her making her feel soft and clean again. Ash woke Libby long enough to let her know she was going home. She had accomplished her mission twice. She felt a burning in her cheeks blushing at her own actions. She slowly started walking home, it was still early hours and it was colder hen the jacket she had on, at least it wasn’t raining. She was swimming in her own thoughts, in the name of getting laid she had led her best friend to commit incest and become bisexual. The bisexual thing didn’t bother her but the incest thing did a little. She didn’t realize she would feel so guilty about it afterwards. Then again she hadn’t really done much to encourage them. As the school year was nearly at an end Ash really hoped for another sleep over soon. They never got a night alone at Libby’s with no parents to try playing the game again. The way the game had backfired on her had been after playing that night; the line had been crossed with Libby and Jace as well. Libby confessed a short time later that she and her brother were having sex all the time now when the parents were out of the house. This was a familiar story to Ash. She remembered when she and Joey had been like that too. Libby said that she and Jace weren’t in love or anything silly like that but they were having lots of fun. The last week of school she found out how completely her plan had backfired. She found out that Jace had asked Laney to be his girlfriend because he really had liked her most of all Libby’s friends. Ash was slightly disappointed when she heard that. She never told Libby or Laney that she had a small crush on him, but she was happy for Laney, Jace was a good boy who would treat her good and with Laney being in on their secret Ash guessed it all work out in the end. Ash was curious with Jace dating Laney and sleeping with his sister, were Libby and Laney still hooking up too? She wondered but didn’t bother to ask. It wasn’t long before Ash had to fly out to go to her sister Linda’s for the summer. She wasn’t looking forward to going, she still had unresolved feelings she wanted to discuss with Joey and it wasn’t going to happen if she was gone. Two days after school was out for the year, Ash had all her bags packed and found herself in the car on the way to the airport. Lilly had taken her because Joey’s dad had felt sick and too tired to go. The girls talked on the car ride, Ash really loved her sister who had become like her mother. Lilly meant the world to her and she would miss her while spending the summer with what she always called her fun sister Linda. Lilly stayed with Ash all the way to the plane’s boarding entrance. They hugged goodbye and both girls actually cried as Ash boarded the plane. Ash had no idea when the doors closed and the plane made its way down the runway she would never be coming back to this home again. Her life here with Lilly and her husband was over and Ash was now flying into her new life. |
