I don't own this story, I found it online and wanted to share it. The link is:
As they rode down the street past the houses, Ann looked out the window. Karen had put her car seat close to the window.
“Wow, everything is big! The houses all look really nice though!” Ann exclaimed in excitement.
Karen looked at her in the rear view mirror at Ann and smiled.
Ann smiled back but as she looked out the window she remembered that there was something she had wanted to ask. “You had said that everyone said I may be wild, what did you mean by that? Wouldn’t they be happy to no longer be homeless?”
Karen glanced at Ann, and shook her head as she watched the road. “No, sometimes they are very scared and don’t want to be there and they will fight and say bad words. It’s a very difficult thing but the parents that adopt them try hard to make them understand that no one will hurt them and only want to help.” She Glanced at Ann again. “I have to be honest, I am a bit surprised you weren’t scared, everyone had told me you would be the same but I had a feeling inside me that you would be sweet and take it well. Tell me Ann, Why did you not shy away from me?”
Ann looked back out the window and thought a moment. “I had woken up before you came in the room. I knew I was in a new place, because the place I was sleeping was soft and warm and I thought at first that it had to be a dream. It was dark so I couldn’t see, but I felt around and felt the warm soft blanket. I snuggled with its warmth. I knew then that I should be scared but I knew that since I was not tied up and since I was covered in a soft blanket on a soft bed, I knew then, that whoever had placed me there meant me no harm and also it felt nice to be comfortable. Then I had fallen asleep again.”
Karen only glanced at Ann again but she was looking out the window again. Karen continued to drive and soon they had reached the store and it was the biggest store she had ever seen. It was like wal-mart only much much bigger! Ann was carried into the store, where they stored the buggies and Karen put Ann into a buggy, which had a seat in the front that was seen on earth for children.
“Let’s go to the toy section first then after that mommy needs to pick up some things we will need.” Karen told Ann.
Ann only nodded and looked around at all the other giant people in the store. She was amazed at how they all looked human only larger. Once they reached the toy isle, Ann turned her attention to everything they had on the shelves. It seemed to Ann that the dolls they had here were much prettier than the ones she had seen on earth. Then Ann thought maybe it could be that she had not seen dolls for so long.
“You may pick out any doll you like sweetie. It’s your welcome home gift from me and daddy.” Karen said smiling and looking at Ann.
Ann nodded slowly as she looked at all the dolls. Even though she was 29 she still loved dolls. To her they looked so pretty. She continued to look at all the dolls and then saw one that looked like a real baby with red hair and pigtails. She wore a little overall dress. Ann’s eyes lit up and Karen saw this.
“Oh, have you found her Ann sweetie?” Karen asked her.
Ann smiled and nodded. “Yes please! There she is!” and Ann pointed to the doll.
Karen got the doll and handed it to Ann.
Ann smiled. “Oh thank you so much! I always wanted one but was always too poor.”
That statement made Karen Sad, but she hid the sadness and smiled. “You’re very welcome sweetheart.” And she gave Ann a gentle brush on the cheek; making Ann blush slightly.
Ann smiled and looked at the doll in the box. She was so pretty and she could not wait to hold her in her arms.
Once they were finished shopping and checked out, they made their way back to the car and Karen strapped Ann onto her car seat and unboxed the doll. As they drove, Ann was so happy holding the doll and looking at her. She couldn’t believe she had finally got one after years and years of waiting.
As they drove, Karen glanced into the rearview mirror. “Are you going to give her a name sweetie? She came with a birth certificate.” She asked with a smile.
Ann had been holding the doll close and was looking out the window. She turned to Karen. “Oh…“ Ann looked at her hard, thinking of a name.
After a moment of thinking it came to her. The name she thought of had come from a favorite cartoon that she loved. “I’ll name her Usagi, it’s Japanese for rabbit.”
Karen smiled. “That is a very pretty name!”
Ann Smiled. “Thank you”
They were at a red light now and stopped. As they sat there, Ann thought over the events that had happened and her new life. Karen really was a sweet person and the way Ann saw it, she really had no one else in her life and no one knew she even existed. Her life had been a tragedy after another. Then 5 years ago the only person she had left, passed away and left her with nothing and homeless. She really did not like to think about that part so she pushed it from her mind and looked at Karen, as she watched the red light. She had been so lonely for 5 years and missed her mom. She then decided it would not hurt to call Karen Mommy after all since she had none. It might feel nice. She decided to try it out now.
“Thank you Mommy for the doll.” Ann said with a smile. It did feel nice to say it after all.
Karen looked at Ann surprised, and smiled back really big. “You are very welcome sweetheart!”
After the light had turned green; they made it to the hair dresser in no time. The hair dresser greeted Karen as she came in, holding Ann in her arms.
“Hello Mrs. Stevenson! We’ve been expecting you!” The lady saw Ann and exclaimed. “What a lovely little girl!” She has pretty brown hair and big brown eyes!” She was smiling at Ann.
Ann blushed and in a shy voice said. “Thank you.”
Karen smiled. “Her name is Ann. We just got her yesterday.”
The lady was surprised. “Wow! That is amazing! She is such a good little girl for getting her so soon!” She said smiling.
She then showed them to the seat where she would fix Ann’s hair. The lady made conversations with Karen as she brushed Ann’s long brown hair. It went past her shoulders and almost to her waist. Ann held onto Karen’s hand the whole time that she was getting her hair curled.
Once she was finished curling Ann’s hair, Karen paid her and they left the salon.
Next was the doctor’s visit. When they arrived, Karen signed them in and they sat and waited for their turn. As they sat there and Ann sat in her new mommy’s lap and was very happy. Not long after she had fallen asleep. Next thing Ann knew she was being awoken by Karen.
“Ann Honey, it’s time to see the doctor now.” She said giving Ann a little nudge.
Ann slowly opened her eyes and looked around. She was in an examination room and there was the doctor standing there in front of them. She was still in her mommy’s lap. The doctor was a pretty lady wearing her hair in a ponytail and wore glasses. Ann Rubbed the sleep from her eyes but didn’t say anything to anyone but looked at her.
She leaned down to Ann. “Hello Ann, how are you today?”
Ann nodded. “I am good.” And she smiled.
Then the doctor took a seat on a stool and smiled. “That’s great to hear!” she adjusted her glasses. “I am Dr. Blackwell Ann, it is a pleasure to meet you.” Ann smiled shyly and the doctor turned to Karen. “Today I am just going to give her a checkup and a physical and take some blood to make sure she is healthy. As you know Mrs. Stevenson, the agency did a quick blood test on her already to look for diseases and other serious illnesses. The blood test I will perform today will check her white blood cells, blood sugar and the simple stuff of that nature. It is quick and will only take about a minute to perform.” She then picked up her clip board. “However I will need to ask Ann a few questions with your permission Mrs. Stevenson.”
Karen Smiled. “Sure.”
“I just want to ask you some simple questions that only you can answer.” She said smiling at Ann.
So she asked Ann questions like was she allergic to anything, and things of that nature.
Once she was done asking questions, she left the room and came back with the equipment to take blood. Ann Didn’t really mind needles that much but always had to look the other way or she would move her arm away, not realizing it. As if her new mom could sense this she gently placed Ann’s head onto her shoulder. Ann was very grateful for this and it made her feel even more loved. At some point Ann felt the needle go into her arm and she twitched only slightly. Karen seemed to have felt it for she hugged Ann gently and kissed her on the top of her head. Ann decided to take a look once the needle was removed.
Dr. Blackwell smiled. “That wasn’t so bad, was it?”
Ann just smiled and shook her head.
She had a band aid for Ann’s arm ready for her. “I hear you like Hello kitty Ann.” She said smiling at Ann.
Ann smiled really big. “Yes I do I LOVE Hello Kitty!”
“Well Ann I have a surprise for you.” Smiling she showed Ann the Hello Kitty Band Aid.
Ann looked Surprised. “Wow! Thank you!!”
The doctor placed the band aid on Ann's arm where she had taken the blood. She smiled. “I will be back in a few moments." and she left the room.
As they sat there waiting Ann rested her head on her mommy's chest.
"Mommy?" Ann asked. It felt even better saying it the second time!
"Yes sweetheart?" Karen asked hugging her gently.
"What if I had a disease or something, would you have thrown me back?" Ann asked, snuggled close to her mommy.
"No sweetheart, we would have treated you for whatever sicknesses you had, once the adoption agency takes a little human, they always give them to their parents that adopted them. We have cures and treatments for most anything here but that is something I'll explain to you later sweetie, our world is a very complicated place and I promise I'll teach you things later ok sweetie?" She kissed the top of Ann's head.
Ann smiled. "Ok mommy, thank you for adopting Me." and she looked up at Karen smiling.
Karen smiled back and gave Ann a gentle hug. Ann returned the hug. Ann felt really happy for the first time in years and felt loved very much. She didn't want it to end.
They stayed like that until the doctor returned to the room. Dr. Blackwell smiled. "Well I have the results here and she is healthy but I think she may have some liver issues and bladder issues. I found them in the tests that the agency ran and had sent here since I would be her primary doctor." She adjusted her glasses and was writing on a note pad of some sort. Ann figured it was for prescriptions. "I suggest that she eat fruits and vegetables. And drink juice or water or flavored water like cool aid for a while and she can have milk just no soda for now. I just want her to get some antioxidants in her. Also I will prescribe her some allergy medicine and a nasal spray. You can put it under her pillow so she can use it at night." She handed Karen the prescription and she smiled at Ann.
"I will see you both next month and if you need an appointment sooner please feel free to call the office." Dr. Blackwell got up and smiled. "Well it was a pleasure to meet you Ann.
Ann and Karen both waved bye bye and they left the doctor's office.
