Life for me is fairly eventful, from an early age I know I was different but my suspicion was justified at the age of ten when my parents told me I was a mage... Well a mage to be. Over the next two years I studied hard, although not having any magical abilities yet I practiced with a fake wand as I learnt spells and movements for spells as well as being taught the whole mage life. I was grateful my mum was one of those stay at home mums as at the age of ten they pulled me out of school and I was homeschooled until I became a mage. They said that at the age of 12, a person goes through status, I never understood the name but they say it just what it was always been called. I learnt that the Brain is made up of 10% used space, 1% mage space and 89% unused space and this was the same in all humans, but at the age of 12 a mage although born human and like this would freeze and would have to endure immense pain as the 1% mage space grew, filling up the unused space. There was going to be a total of 12 spikes of pain in your brain, as once your hit the twelfth it meant all 89% unused space had become 90% mage space, however after the twelfth spike there came the next stage as what people refer to as ‘The Burning Sun’. A heat and pain so intense the rare few that make it past 12 spikes don’t make it past the first few seconds. Not many people know what the Burning sun does as somebody people believe it’s the power in your mage space becoming more compact as the only thing we know the longer you endure the stronger you are. Although other people believe it’s the power trying to override your 10% human space and if you allow it to burn through you die. As weird as it sounded, I couldn’t wait to be in agony, the thought of being a mage was incredible but not just any mage, I had to be a powerful mage. The whole mage world lives in secret and on power, if you’re a powerful mage then life is considerably easier and even your family get an easier life as people treat them with more respect. Sadly, there are very few mages that reach past 12 spikes and those who do are generally immensely powerful, surprising to end pain and to end the entirety of Status all you have to do is open your eyes which leaves you with as much power as you endured. I have heard stories of parents telling their kids to endure the pain but the sheer shock of the pain made them open their eyes ending it as some mages live their life being fairly weak. Mum says the average is around 7 spikes; those who reach 10 or 11 are becoming sort of celebrities as the 12 and onwards are considered famous from the age of twelve. I was training in secret from my parents as well, beating myself to increase my tolerance to pain in hopes I could be stronger, it worked fairly well as I could withstand quite a bit of pain. “Lights out Jamie” my mum shouted up the stairs as I climbed into bed trying to get a good night sleep to recover my beating. But tonight I wasn’t getting any, I had a splitting headache and it kept me up for hours, tossing and turning, I buried my face into my pillow and that’s when it hit me, my first spike. It was like when somebody says don’t touch that it’s hot, you touch it anyway and it’s always hotter than you thought it was, my parents said spikes and I thought it would be like a large needle stabbing me but no, this was like a lightning bolt hitting my skull as my mouth gaped wide as I forced my eyes shut, holding them there as I felt the second spike hit me. The pain was excruciating, the fact that it was so painful I couldn’t even find a metaphor to compare it to, it was just pain... pure unfiltered pain surging around my head. Holding my head down I kicked and punched at the bed, trying not to make a sound as I still kept my eyes shut. Taking it a step further I blindly reaching under my bed as I pulled out some duck tape as I tore a long strip covering my eyes as I forcibly held the shut, over the next 20minutes I felt 3 more spikes... I honestly thought the whole thing would take like 4 minutes but I had only hit spike number 5 my mind blurring as clutched my head trying to regulate the pain, to gain control and calm down but every time I thought that it worked another spike hit me as I rolled over in agony. I was delirious, the amount of pain I received should have either killed me or at minimum put me in a coma but no I was still alive and kicking, over the next hour I finally reached spike number twelve as seconds after it hit my head started getting hot. Hot wasn’t even a good enough word to describe the new pain I was in, it was as if somebody had removed the top of my skull and then poured larva inside before reattaching my skull as the larva burnt through me to the very core, The burning sun was more painful than all the spikes put together, I arched my back screaming making my first sound as my parents rushed into the room finding me face buried in the pillow as they guessed what was happening. “Honey, how many spikes have you had” my mum asked as I screamed out “Twelve” I shouted as they both gasped “How long have you felt the burning sun?” my dad asked proudly as I screamed again clutching the pillow around my face trying to hide the tape as well as endure the pain. “I don’t know, this is agony” I shouted as they stood back and watched “Just endure it, open your eyes when you’ve had enough” she asked as I dug my face in deeper. Unbeknown to her I tried to open my eyes after the first few seconds of the burning sun, but the tape kept them closed as I was no longer trying to endure, but trying to survive. Over the next hour I lay in bed screaming as my dad and mum were both extremely happy as they encouraged me to go further, soon enough the burning started to fade as I wondered if I had endured it all. “It’s stopped” I said taking a few deep breathes as my parents looked worried “You took it all?” my mum asked as I quickly screamed out again, felling more spikes as well as the burning sun, both hitting me at the same time as I held on for as long as I could, the pain so intense I passed out. “Jamie!” my mum screamed shaking my body as she rolled me over, the pain still burning through my as I lay unconscious “Oh god, he taped his eyes shut” my mum shouted as they pulled the pillow from my face as they tried to peel it off. “Arghhh” I screamed loudly waking up as I quickly started kicking and screaming as I attempt to cover my face to hopes to quell the pain only succeeded to flatten the tape against my skin. Both my parents jumped off the bed to give me some space as I writhed in agony for yet another 20minutes, as time passed I was desperate for it to end as with all my energy I could muster I forced my eyes open as I bent the tape, as soon as I saw light hit my eyes the pain went from a boiling mass to just a simmer before disappearing completely as I lay on my bed panting as my parents looked at me in amazement. Sitting up, I tried to peel the tape of as I it stung like a bitch once I reached my eyelids. “Rip it off, I will heal you” my dad said as I quickly tore it form my face taking the skin of my face as I felt dads healing power quickly repair my skin as I slumped into my bed taking a few deep breathes as they sat on the bed next to me. “What happened” my mum asked as I shrugged “I felt the spikes then the burning, then it stopped for a few seconds and then I felt them both at once” I said hearing them gasp as they stared at me “So how many spikes in the second part” my dad asked as I wiped the tears from my eyes “I don’t know, original 12 plus maybe 30” I said as he smiled “My boy, the most powerful mage in the world” he said laughing as I chuckled amazed how normal I felt after having such a intense moment. “Tomorrow, were going to Bacra, get you the stuff you need for school as we will enrol you into Harrington’s” Dad said as I smiled “Ok get some rest, I know you need it” my mum said giving me a chaste kiss on the lips goodnight as both my parents left my room, I lay my head down on my sweat filled pillow before quickly drifting off to sleep. The next day we were up bright and early as I felt full of life and energy, as well as being overjoyed that I was now I fully fledged mage and a powerful one at that. walking down the stairs I greeted my parents with a smile as they were both on the phones talking about me as I actually blushed, my parents were so proud of me and I was proud of me too. “Ok, Let’s take you shopping” Mum said as I pull out her wand aiming it at the back door “Javick” she said firmly and with a swish of her wand the door flashed, although it looked like the light was coming from the outside sneaking through the gaps around the edges. Dad opened the door as instead of our garden, stood an orange sandy street. I knew a lot about Bacra, but I had never been. It’s the mage capital of the world, based in the Egyptian desert and hidden by a force field making it invisible to anybody outside. Walking out we were quickly swept up by the hustle and bustle of the mage world as they walking down the compacted streets in their robes as we clearly stood out, wearing normal human clothes. “Ok Jamie, this is the plan” my mum said dragging me to the side of the street as looked down at me “Were going to your wand shop first, then pet store and then the bank. John has already paid for everything so just go in pick up what you need and come out, John is going to go buy your books while I take you to the store, then were going as a family to Classification, so we can find out what your class is” mum said as I nodded being taught all this before. Mum quickly walked through the city as we lost dad along the way but I didn’t really care as I was too excited seeing the city and the stores, after about 5minutes of avoiding people and being dragged by my mum who kept a tight grip of my hand as mages were walking into us from all directions we finally reaching the wand store mum pushed me inside. “Just do exactly as he says” mum said before closing the door and sitting on the bench outside talking to the other mum who also wore human clothes. Inside the store I saw the old man standing behind the counter as a young girl was talking to him, “You there, come with me, I don’t want you getting hit” the old man said pulling me by my arm round the counter as the young girl quickly went over and stepped on a small square platform in the centre of the room, only a foot of the ground but she looked rather nervous. “What’s happening” I asked as he smiled watching the girl “The platform radiates her personality, the draws that have ingredients to match her personality will open and the perfect amount of ingredients will fly out, then the wand will fly out and absorb the ingredients give her a perfect wand to match her power and personality” he said as I smiled getting more excited as I noticed a few draws on either side of the room start to shake, bursting open powders and feathers of all variety flew towards the girl, but stopped about a foot away as the ingredient looked like they were orbiting the girl, spinning slowly as more ingredients were added. Startled from behind I heard some loud banging as suddenly as large block of wood flew towards the girl, flinching the cover her face, protecting herself form the oncoming block of wood she held the pose for about 10 seconds before slowly lowering her hands realising she hadn’t been hit, but like the ingredients it stopped only a foot away. Sighing in relief we both watched the log as it looked almost as if it was melting, the wood falling apart landing on the floor as the last thing floating was a wand, intricate handle with a long thin shaft, the wand whilst in orbit started spinning wildly, going faster and faster as when it hit the ingredient it absorbed them into it instead of hitting them away. After only 15 seconds of spinning the wand slowed down before stopping as no more ingredients were left “Take the wand” the old man behind me said as he held me in front of him, grasping the wand from mid air she stepped off the platform smiling as she thanked the man before walking out the store. “Your turn” the man quickly said as I excitedly climbed onto the platform as he stood in his spot, hidden from the ingredients and the path of the flying wood I knew was coming. I waited for a few seconds as I noted dozens of draws rumbling as the room actually started shaking. I turned to see my mum outside with a whole crowd of faces watching me obviously spotting the earthquake going on that was limited to the store. Looking around I saw dozens of draws burst open, the last girl only had like 7 draws but I had like 40 all the ingredients flying around me as I heard a lot crashing from the back as a few sacks flew out ripping at the top as more ingredients flew out, I guess I used up all the draws. Once I took all the ingredients I need from the sack it dropped to the floor as more feathers, hairs and powders orbited me as I could barely see through it, however I did notice the dark black log flying towards me as even though I knew it was stop I still flinched. With the log now visible as it orbited me I watched as it started melting, all the wood hitting the floor except a long piece of black wood...my wand, it even looked powerful as the hand was carved so whilst the shaft was long, longer than the other girls as it must of been around 10inches. Then it started spinning, the ingredients being absorbed as it span around me in orbit. Soon enough all the ingredients were gone as floating before me stood this wand, before the man could even say anything I grasped the wand, the power in the wand mixing with my own power as they were both matched, I felt almost connected to the wand. “That’s a very powerful wand you have their young man” the shopkeeper said nervously as I smiled “Thanks” I said walking out the store as my mum had to push through the crowd of mages watching me as took my hand leading me down the street. “That’s a beautiful wand you have Jamie” my mum said as I smiling holding it tightly in my hand as we arrived at the pet store, “Put your wand away, it’s a powerful wand and tailored to you, the doesn’t mean people won’t steal it because it’s more powerful than theirs” mum said firmly as I lost my smile nodding up at her before slipping it into my waist band of my jeans holding it tightly there whilst I walked into the store. “Hello young man, your first pet?” he asked looking down at me over the counter as I nodded up at the frail man “Well, don’t go for the pet you like the look of, get close to each animal, you will feel the bond between you two” he said as I started on my left travelling all around the store; puppies, cats, rabbits, birds. They all seemed to be normal pets; I then found the more magical side as there were miniature dragons and hydras, as well as gryphons and hippogryphs. Walking behind the counter I saw a load of fish which I was glad I felt nothing with as I made my way into the more interesting side of the store, rats, spiders, lizards and snakes. Walking past the tank of snakes I felt a small tweak in me head as I knelt down looking in further as I realized it was in the tank behind it, sliding case out on the trolley it was in I moved into the gap as I saw a second cage full of slightly large snakes although they all looked relatively young. Putting my face against the glass I felt another tweak in my head as the mass of bodies started moving as a single snake head popped up out the mass, travelling towards the glass the snake lifted its head until it too touched the glass directly in front of mine as I felt a large tweak in my head before becoming overcome with sadness and loneliness. Opening the lid to the tank I stuck my hand in pulling out the snake as he was only about a foot long but her quickly coiled around my wrist holding on tight as I closed the lid carrying him to the shop keeper. “African Rock Python, a rare animal to bond with, congratulations” the shopkeeper said as I smiled walking out the store. “You bonded with a snake?” my mum said as I smiled “I thought it would be a dragon or bird” she said smiling as I chuckled “He said that this snake is rare to bond with” I said proudly as my mum smiled down at me “Then he is perfect for you” she said whisking me off again by my hand as my pet snake coiled up my arm relaxing on my shoulders as we arrived next to dad. “You took your time, I’ve sorted his bank vault out” Dad said as mum thanked him “We have had fun, he’s got his pet snake, an apparent rare pet to bond with” mum said as dad cut her off “African rock python, yeah these are rare” he said as I smiled “You should of see the wand shop, the girl before him had seven draws, Jamie here had the whole store shaking, you couldn’t see him through all the ingredients orbiting him, plus he has a rather large black wood wand, I haven’t seen anything like it before” mum said as I pulled out my wand to show dad as I smiled “Ha, that’s my boy” he said proudly as we walked off again a bit slower this time to Classification. “You’re going to have an audience in here Jamie, some mages like to come see the new mages when they go in, spot anybody who looks to be a powerful mage so they know who to watch, just go in listen to the man on the podium and do what he says” my dad said as we stepped into the building walking along the corridor into what looked to be a large theatre. I spotted the man at the podium as he spoke to about 2 hundred mages that sported the seats surrounding the stage in a semi-circle, on the stage was a chair as my mum quickly filled me in “Sit on the chair, and place you hands on the orbs, it plays it on the big orbs for all to see, it will find out your personality, your memories, your talents and our class and power, just remain calm and don’t think of memories you don’t want them to know” she said as I nodded. “Next young mage to be classified, is Jamie Dovell” the old man in his wispy voice said as he looked to me, my dad giving me a slight push as I stepping up to the stage looking a bit nervous. “Be calm, just sit in the chair and place your hands on the orbs if you please” the old man said as I did just that, I looked up at the orbs as it was playing my current memory as the orbs showed me looking at the orbs which made a few people chuckle. “Would you mind facing forward and closing your eyes, while we classify you” the old man said as I nodded closing my eyes as I looked forward. I felt nervous as I heard a collection of gasps as my min flicked over a few things, mainly being today but I did drift back to my status as I listened to the man reading out the things he saw “How have you received 45 spikes” the old man said looking at me as I felt nervous “I...I endured the twelve, and I put tape over my eyes to keep them shut, the burning sun lasted for an hour which I endured and then I felt the burning sun and spikes together for about 20minutes before the tape was loose enough for me to open my eyes” I said as he gasped “You taped your eyes shut” he said as I nodded “Impressive, most people that try that, end up ripping their eye lids of when they’ve had enough” he said writing it down. “Well that makes sense then, you have a total of 80minutes of the burning sun and 45 spikes, which makes you the strongest mage to date beating the old record of 12 spikes and 15minutes” he said as I smiled “Your class is fire, you are talented in Energy, Life, Electricity and Animals... Congratulations again most mages only get one talent” he said as I nodded with the biggest grin on my face possible. “Personality wise, you’re kind, caring, outgoing and adventurous” he said as I smiled hearing nothing bad in there. “You can step out the seat now” he told me smiling as he handed me a certificate as I quickly walked back down to my parents who were both nearly crying giving me a hug when I got close enough. “Rachel!” a voice shouted as my mum froze in the street turning to the voice as she ran up to her giving her a hug “Oh my god, it’s been years, how are you” my mum said quickly as the two ladies gossiped “Oh this is my Daughter Jess, 11 spikes” he mum said soundly very proud as my mum smiled “And this is my son Jamie, 45 spikes and 80minutes” she said with a smile as the women’s jaw dropped “How is that even possible” she asked as I shrugged “Burning sun lasts for an hour, then you get spikes and burning sun together the spikes coming in a lot faster, I only managed 20minutes” I said trying to sound modest as I looked to Jess who seemed really nervous “I like you puppy” I said trying to change conversation as she smiled “His name is Jona” she said smiling down at the puppy by her feet, “What’s your snake called” she asked as I looked down at my snake not knowing his name “Don’t rush the name, chose a name you both like” she said as I smiled nodded “I’m water class, and I’m talented in animals what about you?” she asked as I looked down “Fire class” I said as she smiled “What are you talented in?” she asked a bit more firmly as I didn’t really want to answer “Energy, life, animals and electricity” I said quickly as her jaw dropped again “Wow, do you mind if I stick with you, at least I know I won’t get bullied by brad then” she said as I looked at her “Who’s brad” I asked as she looked up at her mum “Mum tell him about Brad” she asked as the women scowled “Brad Cross, nasty piece of work. His parents are real strict on him as they held his eyes down during the status as he has 12 spikes and 5 minutes” she said my parents listened “I heard he was talented in necromancy and he is Earth class, and that’s never a great mix, he’s a bully crippling those in his way. His parents are the same they’re all cruel and manipulative” she said whilst we listened intently “You’re stronger than he is, so either stay out of his way or put him in his place, he’s the sort of kid that wants to control everything” she said as I nodded “Anyway. We still have to get Jess a wand, so maybe we will see you in September when term starts” the women said as she hugged my mum again before walking off “Bye Jess” I said as she waved. Going back home, I sat in my room for hours on end going through hundreds of names to which he denied constantly, I started searching the internet for names, going from boys to girls to roman to mythological. “How about Bob” I said jokingly as he shook his little snake head “Trevor, angus, Barbara” I offered as he continued to shake his head “How about princess, come here princess” I said laughing as he shook his head “Well you’re a boy, how about prince” I said as his head stopped for a few seconds before nodding “That settles it, prince it is” I said confidently before climbing into bed for the night. Waking up the next day, I noticed Prince had grown a fair bit, a lot more than what he should have in one night, stepping into the kitchen I saw mum making breakfast for me smiling when she noticed me in the doorway “Mum, Prince has grown quiet a lot is he ok?” I asked as she smiled “He’s bonded to you, he is a snake with magic, you bought him when he was just a baby snake, but you are a teen, he’s growing to match your age, and he will continue to grow until you stop growing, and he will live for as long as you go” she said to me as I smiled “Ha looks like you’re stuck with me” I said to Prince as he head stood next to mine whilst his body was slung over my shoulders “Can you teach me some magic today?” I asked her as she stopped what she was doing “Let’s go down into the basement so you don’t break anything” she said making me laugh following her down the steps as I saw lots of old junk I barely knew, walking over to the table I put prince down as mum pulled out a chair “Refrefta” she said quickly as the chair burst into a thousand pieces “Ok your first spell is a repairing spell, as no doubt, you will break things” she said as I smiled “Point at the object and say ‘Evo Reparus” she told me as I nodded confidently. Stepping to her side I pointed my wand at the mess on the floor as I said the line “Evo Reparus” I felt the power in the wand as a white light quickly shot from the end of the wand firing towards the mess but my distract took off my aim as the white light missed the chair hitting the floor as a few minor cracks disappeared “Keep trying work on your aim, fix everything in here” she said as I smiled. Working hard I repaired all the items in the basement as my aim had improved, “What was the word she said first?” I muttered to myself looking at the fixed chair “Refrefta” I said pointing my wand as the red light burst out hitting the chair as it broke up into the thousand pieces. Going around the basement I basically broke everything before going around again fixing everything, seeing the light shoot from my wand was always amazing but after a while I was getting bored... Waving my wand around I found out that fire came out, which I guess should have been obvious seeing as I was Fire Class. Putting my wand away I started controlling the fire with just my mind as I found I could create fire in my hands. “Mum, can you come teach me something new” I shouted running up the stairs, walking into the lounge I saw mum with her wand out as three mages in black robes stood in the lounge in some sort of standoff “What’s going on” I asked as walking in front of my mum as she didn’t break her eye contact with the mages “These people want to take you away, go back in the basement and practice” my mum said as I turned to the mages “Go now, but I kill you all” I shouted at them as they took a step back showing genuine fear “You don’t know any spells boy” the woman spat back as I stepped forward making fire in my hands as they all took a few steps back “Now go” I shouted as one of the mages quickly grabbed the other two teleporting out the room as I looked back to my mum “How do I get rid of fire?” I asked as she looked at me in shock “Umm, make it spread thin and disperse it” she said as I did just that making the fire disappear from my hands as she gave me a hug “Let’s teach you some more, if they come back I want you to be able to defend yourself” she said confidently walking me down into the basement. “Ok a few rules about magic, as you know Elements and Talents are done by our minds, but actual magic needs to done with a wand, because the wand focuses and directs the spell, if you try and cast a spell from your hand nothing would happen” she said “Pointing to the person, if you say ‘Vero” the person will freeze for about 5 seconds, giving you enough time to either get away or think of your next spell as they would be stuck” she told me as I nodded “Most mages use pets for practice as well as company, so practice on Prince” mum said as I pointed my wand at him “Vero” I said confidently as no light came out but Prince froze, motionless, his tongue still out mid flicker. “Very good, now another spell you could use is ‘Crowdarh” mum said as I smiled “This is different to the other spells, you have to say it as a whisper but also this spell is for you, so have the tip of your wand touching your body, it doesn’t need wand movement just whisper the word softly and you will become invisible” she said as I smiled a wide smile doing the spell, watching myself quickly fade “This is a good spell for hiding, but it only lasts about 2 minutes, so if somebody is chasing you, freeze them, hide and go invisible and get as far away as you can” she said as I picking up Prince as it looked like he was flying as he travelled down my outstretched arm landing back on the table. Seconds later I noticed my feet again as my body slowly become invisible as my mum smiled that warm parenting smile they always have. Over the next week, I had practiced nearly every day, still being home schooled by mum though my lessons were become less curriculum and more magic, less studying and more practicing. Mum told dad about the three mages, and how I scared them away but it didn’t stop him from getting paranoid. Dad was a doctor at the local human hospital and well, our survival meant him not getting caught for healing patients as it would be a hard thing to explain. Dad also taught me a few cool spells as I was constantly going around invisible, making this have no gravity as they floated around with the slightest push, fun for me, annoying for my parents as I always did it to the TV remote or the Sofa they sat on. I am quite proud to say my aim with my wand has gotten rather good, I rarely miss things now and I have been working on doing turns quickly so if needed to I could fire a spell while moving in another direction instead of standing still. “That’s it Jamie, give me you wand” Dad said finally realising he was floating when his head hit the ceiling “Awe but it’s fun” I pleaded holding my wand behind me back “Yeah magic is fun, but you need to control yourself, and taking away gravity is getting annoying” he said as mum came in from behind me pulling my wand out my grasp as she giggled handing it to dad as he put it in his jacket pocket next to his wand as I moaned in protest but to no avail. “Traitor” I said jokingly to mum walking past as she laughed at me “You will have plenty of time to pull pranks at school in September, but in the house, no more pranks please” she said as I groaned again walking up to my room as Prince followed me. “Ok, let’s test out my talents, your an animal maybe I can read your mind” I joked as I focused on Princes mind feeling a odd tweak as then I suddenly heard a voice. Startled I jumped back onto my bad as I watched Prince “Was that you in my head?” I asked as the voice came again “Yes it’s me, it’s about time you had this idea I’ve been sick of not being able to talk to you” he said as I smiled “Oh wow this is cool” I said as I swear I saw a smile on his face. “Ok so talking to animals, check. I’m also apparently talented in Electricity, life and energy. What can I do with any of them?” I wondered as I looked to Prince for some ideas “Well I guess life is healing like your dad, so if there’s nothing to heal, we can’t practice” he said as I shrugged accepting that as we moved on “Were surrounded by electricity, and Energy could be like lifting things with you mind” he said as I smiled “Telekinesis, now that’s what I’m talking about” I said excitedly as I looked around the room. Focusing on my lamp I tried to turn it on by nothing happened, trying a different tactic I put my hand on the plug socket as I felt myself drawing in the electricity “Oh this works” I said drawing in more electrical energy as I pointed my finger at the lamp trying to turn it on but instead a lightning bolt burst from my finger obliterating it “Oh” I said shocked as the Lamp lay in pieces all over my bed and floor “If mum asks, I’m blaming you” I said to prince laughing as he laughed in my head. “Ok let’s try energy” I said confidently as I focus on picking up a pen off my desk. After a few attempt at finding the right focus, I saw the pen start to wiggle as I lifted it off the desk floating it over to me before I put it back down again. Practicing my energy talent for the rest of the night, I soon had it sorted as my room was a mass of floating objects, including Prince as I worked on my control and aim as I set everything down gently and back in its place, except for Prince who I placed on my bed as we got some sleep. “Jamie, Breakfast” mum shouted up the stairs as she usually did, waking me up it the process, I groaned rolling out of bed floating myself out my room and down the stair, too lazy to walk in the morning. “I see somebody found their Energy talent” Dad said smiling as I pulled out the chair with my power sitting myself down as I looked to him “I was forced to find an alternative source of fun, since my wand as gone missing” I said accusingly at him as he just laughed at me “Oh by the way, if you check my room, the broken lamp is Princes fault, he was practicing he Electricity talent and instead of turning on the lamp he blew it up” I said as my parents both laughed at me, “Ok well, we will punish prince by not letting you have your wand back” mum said as I groaned deeply before picking up my spoon eating my cereal. “Ok, I have to get to work, love you babe” Dad said giving mum a kiss “Train hard” dad said to me ruffling my hair as he walked out the front door. “Ok, and before you start, he’s taken your wand with him” mum said as I sighed before going back to my breakfast. “So what am I going to train today?” I asked as I smiled “Well, Life is your fathers talent, but I can train you in animals, or you can practice your talents if you want” she asked as I smiled “I can read Prince’s mind, I worked that out last night” I said as she smiled “Good, but that’s very basic, and for an exceptional mage like yourself we need to work at the big boy stuff” she said as I smiled quickly demolishing my breakfast as I followed her out into the garden. “This garden is too obvious, go get on some proper clothes, were going to the forest” mum said as I grinned running back into the house as I quickly threw on some tracksuit bottoms, a jumper and some wellies as when I came down my just quickly pulled out her wand changing her clothes as I groaned, causing her to chuckle. With Prince on my shoulders and us in our outdoor clothes, we climbed into the car driving off down the road as after a good 30minute drive we found ourselves in a giant forest. “Ok let’s walk from here” Mum said parking the car as Prince quickly slid onto the ground going under and over everything he could as he emotions told me he was happy “Of course he’s happy, he’s like you outgoing and adventurous, he’s exploring it all” mum said as I smiled walking through the trees. “Seeing as were hidden from the world, why don’t we practice a few things, firstly summoning animals, place your hands on the ground and basically will the animals to find you” mum said as I nodded doing just that “It will take a few minutes as they may be far away, or not” mum said as I looked up still willing the animals to come as several squirrels, a horse and two deer had arrived as well as dozens of birds lining the trees. “The animal talent, isn’t all about controlling animals, it’s about trust... you can gain their trust quickly and they will follow you. You can read their minds and help them out with anything that is troubling them” Mum said as I smiled standing up, I held out my hand openly as several birds quickly flapped down landing on it. “Worms...Worms...Worms” the birds tweeted in my head as I laughed “Ok try on the deer” mum said as I dropped my arm slowly making the bird fly away, walking up to the deer, I stroked the side of its face as I looked into its mind feeling it’s sadness and grieving as the deer had lost its fawn to a fox. “I’m sorry” I thought to the deer giving her a hug as I wrapped my arms around her long neck as her chin rested on my shoulder. “I have an idea, why don’t you practice your life talent, try and make the grass grow” mum said as I tried to do that. placing my hands on the ground I wanted the grass to grow as I noticed extra padding under my hands after the first few seconds, pushing more energy into my efforts I spread the Life energy out as tree’s around me started to grow healthy green leaves as the grass quickly turned green and lush as the deer and horses started eating. Slowing down my life energy I turned it into a sort of aura, as my body radiated life healing things in a 10metre radius as I walked forward, “Very impressive, your father can only do that for a few minutes” mum said as we walked together through the forest. “What else can animals, do when you have their trust?” I asked her walking through the forest whilst Prince was still right by my side slithering across the grass “Depends really, Animal talent is rather common, you can talk to, understand and help animals but the limits are endless, if you wanted you could have animals protect you and fight with you, I used to use mice to carry letters to your father when were back at school. I also used birds to scout the area so I knew exactly where the places I needed to be were or were the people I needed to avoid were” my mum said as I laughed “Sounds like fun” I said walking through the forest as the animals followed. “I was wondering, The Energy talent seems to be the most useful, Life is helpfull and Animals is Handy but what use does the Electricity Talent have, I mean humans didn’t have electricity devices until the 1800’s so when we had it long before that there was not much we could use it for” I said curiously as my mum shrugged “I don’t know, I don’t have the talent, I guess you could use it like a defibrillator or you could summon the power of electricity to electrocute people” mum said as I shrugged “Might come in useful with all the human inventions” I said calmly as we entered a large open area of forest, still with my healing aura I spread it wider as grass soon started turning green as the field looked very much alive. After a few hours of practicing with the animals and healing the forest, we walked back to the car in peace as the animals all drifted off as I removed my healing aura, I was actually rather impressed with myself as mum said that dad could only do the aura for a few minutes whilst I had it going for hours and quiet strong as well and I barely felt any fatigue. I talked to mum most the car journey home as she told me everything she knew about animals and what I could do with them, as well as the other lessons I would have such as Potions, Enchanting and Protection classes, also I had history, sports and Life skills lessons to deal with. Turns out I am going to be swamped with work. As the weeks passed by September soon arrived, getting increasingly excited I was practicing hard on my fire control as I had lots of fun making fiery animals making them travel around the room “Ok, Jamie” my mum said walking down into the basement where I spent most of my time lately “You need to go pack, your leaving tomorrow” mum said firmly looking down at me, focusing my mind I tried out my new trick as I teleported into my room “You up there Jamie?” mum shouted up as I replied “Yeah, I’m packing” I shouted back hearing her walk up the stairs “How long have you been able to teleport?” she asked looking at me “A few days, I remember those mages teleport out and I figured it energy was the only talent that could do that, so I have been practicing” I said as she chuckled before walking back down the stairs. A few hours later of messing around in my room I heard the front door open as dad arrived home “Jamie, I have some things for you, come down” Dad shouted up as I quickly ran out my room jumping the banister as I levitated myself before hitting the floor as he smiled down at me, “Just some things you will need that nobody ever tells you” he said handing me several bags, running into the kitchen I placed the bags on the table as I started checking the contents “A wet suit?” I asked holding it up to him in question as he laughed “You will be given you school robes there, but they aren’t the warmest of clothes, a wet suit helped me through some cold nights” he said as I smiled putting it down as I checked the other contents. One bag had some nice shoes in as he told me that shoes and hair is your only bit of fashion you get there so, it’s all about first impressions. Inside the last bag I pulled out a large flat box as when I opened it up I saw it was black leather with a chrome flame going all the way around it, but it was backwards as the chrome covered the bracelet making it look more like a shackle, the flame part was actually the absence of chrome, slipping it on it looked awesome “Thanks Dad” I beamed excitedly showing it off. “Ok, go pack this stuff up and come down for dinner, I want to spend my last night with you as a family, not with you alone in your room” mum said smiling as I quickly picked up all the stuff teleporting into my room to put it away. “Oh yeah, he can teleport now” mum said to dad as he looked amazed as they both when to sit down on the sofa “I heard teleportation was like 3rd year stuff” he said as mum laughed “I took him to the forest a few weeks ago to practice he animal talent, as well as his life talent. He put that healing aura on, It felt nearly three times as powerful as yours and he was walking around with it on for nearly 3 hours and didn’t even look the slightest bit tired” mum said as dad gasped “That stuff drains me, how powerful was it then?” he asked as mum shrugged “he was healing everything in a 30 meter radius whilst we walked around” she said as dads jaw dropped. “Ok I’m back, what are we doing tonight?” I asked smiling joining them on the sofa as I flicked my attention to the TV finding some soap on which didn’t really spark my interest. “I thought we could go out for dinner” dad said as mum grinned probably at the prospect of not cooking but still she looked happy. “And I also invited your friend round, you know Bethany as well as her daughter” Dad said as I couldn’t help but smile knowing I was going to meet Jess again. “Well when are they arriving?” mum said looking concerned as dad smiled “Around 7pm, I had dinner reservations for all of us at 8” he said as mum jumped up “Ok then Jamie, do you mind lifting all the dust up of everything and burning it” mum said as I smiled using my power to lift up every piece of dust clumping it into a ball as it was about the size of a tennis ball, putting a single flame in the end of my finger I melted the tennis ball of dust as it quickly vanished whilst mum went around straightening chairs and tables. 7pm on the dot the door bell rang, dad opened it letting in Bethany and Jess with jess having brought her suitcase ready for tomorrow. They all walk into the lounge to find mum had a bottle of wine out ready, although I was in the garden making fiery animals as I burnt the grass before healing it back up again. “Hey you” Jess said stepping outside as she shivered at the cold wind “Come here” I said walking up to her as I gave her a hug, growing my internal warmth as I heard Jess sigh feeling my warmth as I let go smiling at her as I went back to my fiery animals. “They’re beautiful” Jess said starting to shiver as she began to freeze again no longer having my body for warmth “Thanks, just something to practice on, I would like to go big but it would be too obvious” I said as she attempted a chuckled but her quivering lips stopped her “Come on, let’s get you back inside before you freeze” I said pushing her towards the door as when we stepped inside I gave her a quick hug heating her up as she looked a lot pinker now and was no longer shivering “Can’t have you starting your first day with a cold” I said smiling slowly letting go as she smiled at me back following me down to the lounge as the parents stood in the kitchen. “Have you been practicing?” Jess said as I smiled “Yes, although I haven’t practiced electricity that much” I said as she smiled “my mum says it’s hard to learn as you can’t obtain it without draining your electricity bill or creating lightning storms, but you would need a water mage to make the storm for you to harness the lightning” she said smiling as I chuckled “Yeah, I guess” I said feeling a bit nervous as I looked at Jess, her dark brown hair dyed a bright red as she had also grown up a fair bit, looking very slender and attractive. “If you were going to dye you hair, wouldn’t you of dyed it blue for water?” I asked stroking her hair as it came down in front of her chest as she giggled “I liked red, plus blue hair doesn’t really look good” Jess said quickly making me laugh “Well, I bet you half the kids at school will immediately presume you’re a fire mage” I said as she laughed “I know, it’s happened a few times already, but I really like red hair. I’m not even sure why though” she said holding out her hair smiling at me as we gossiped “Would you like a tour of the house?” I offered holding out my hand as she blushed as she quickly took it, but before she could do anything else I teleported us up the stairs into my room as she coughed gripping her stomach “You need to practice teleporting, you get immune to it after a while, because I plan of teleporting you a lot” I said as she stopped moving as she looked up at me “Now this is my room” I said pulling her up as I still had hold of her hand “Bathroom, Parents room, Your room” I said directing her around before teleporting us down to the kitchen as the parents jumped at our sudden arrival as Jess groaned holding her stomach as my parents looked a bit nervous at Jess “It happened to me when I first tried it, you get used to it and eventually you become immune” I said as they all smiled. “Ok why we don’t make our way to the restaurant, no teleporting ”dad said as I groaned “Prince, look after Jona” I said aloud as Prince slithered out from under the table as he was nearly a meter and half long whilst Jona was definitely larger but still had his puppy dog looks. With everybody in the large car dad drove we all used magic to change into some smarter clothing as mum and Bethany chose elegant evening gowns whilst me and dad wore tailor suits leaving Jess wearing a white summer dress which looked stunning on her, “I must say as a fire mage I no longer feel the cold, but if anybody starts to feel a bit chilly let me know” I said aloud breaking the silence as Jess rested her head on my shoulder “Your quiet the gentlemen” Bethany said as mum laughed “Give it two weeks, and you would be sick of him and his pranks” Mum said as everybody laughed “What sort of pranks does he do?” Bethany asked as I lowered my head trying to keep the attention off me “Well, anti gravity spell is a common one, also force field in doorways so you hit your head as you go through and going invisible to terrorise us is a common occurrence” dad said as Bethany laughed “Well, looks like Jess is in for a fun year” she said as I smiled thinking about the fun we could have. Arriving at the posh restaurant we quickly walked in taking our seats as everything was rather expensive “Seeing as were going to go to school tomorrow, why don’t you tell us what’s going to happen?” I asked looking at the parents as they smiled “Well, were all going to the great hall in Bacra, as a teacher from the school will meet us and taking you to the school” Bethany said as my parents nodded “If the school is the same as when we were there, you will be split into your 4 class anyway, boys with boys, girls with girls etc” Dad said as I sighed “Well, every morning it was Element training then after lunch Monday it was two hours of energy class if you had the talent” Mum said as Bethany spoke up “Monday energy, Tuesday Life, Wednesday Electricity, Thursday Animals and Friday was Necromancy” she said as my parents continued “After the talent lesson you would have your normal lessons such as potions, enchantments, sport, history” mum said as I sighed “The classes after the Talent lessons are they done in class groups meaning all fire together then all air together” I asked as my parents nodded “So I only have 1 class a week with Jess being Animal class” I said as they nodded “it’s a shame your fire, if you were water you would be in loads together” Bethany said as I smiled “You mean it’s a shame she’s not fire” I said as my parents laughed “Don’t mess with Water son, were all water class here, you’re outnumbered” Dad said as I chuckled “Oh is that how it is now” I joked as dad smiled sipping his wine knowing that I could probably beat all of them in one go. “Jess can you do me a favour?” I asked as she looked at me “I’m starting to overheat in this suit can you make me a glass of water please” I said as she smiled “Pick up you glass I will refill it as you drink to make it less obvious” she said grinning as I picked up the glasses taking a few mouthfuls although the more I drank and the quicker I drank didn’t affect the level of water, once I felt a lot cooler I put the glass down thanking her as she chuckled “You know, I wish I could share a room with you, I have a feeling the school will be cold and I could do with a free heater” she said making our parents laugh. Dinner ended on a high, dad’s steak was a bit undercooked which I fixed and Jess kept me stocked on cold water, overall it was fun, we talked about school and what we could do and when we left the restaurant we were all full and satisfied after eating lots of great food. “Oh, It’s cold do you mind Jamie” Dad asked look at me “Join hands” I said taking my mums and Jess’s hand as Bethany took her daughters hand as dad took my mum’s... Feeding my warmth through my hands I heard the girls next to me sigh before I pushed further pushing it into the outside two as once I heard a thank you I stopped pushing just holding the warmth there. “You defiantly are handy” Jess said squeezing my hand tightly as I blushed heating myself up to try and mask it. “Oh your hot” Jess said resting her head on my shoulder and immediately jumped back off me as I undid my tie, taking of my jacket as I tried to cool myself down. “I’m sorry, I have to cool off” I said quickly teleporting from the car landing in the Antarctica; I lay down in the snow and ice, I felt the snow melt into water when my skin touched it but I was soon freezing cold. I teleported back into the car startling everybody at my return “Phew, Antarctica... Bloody cold” I said shivering slightly breaking the silence as everybody laughed at me. Back home we all changed into our comfy clothing before settling down to watch some TV together at around 10pm me and Jess were sent to bed which didn’t really bother me as I wasn’t one to try and stay up... I loved my bed and the act of sleeping. Today was the day, after months of dreaming and training I was finally going to school. I woke up to a odd feeling in my ears “Eww gross” I said shocked bolting up right whilst hearing laughing of Prince’s voice in my head. Checking the time I quickly jumped up heading to the hallway as I opened both doors so I could see everybody else sleeping in their beds, “On such an important day, a mere alarm clock is not good enough” I thought to myself watching the two bedrooms. Coming up with an idea I used my telekinesis to lift up the two mattresses as once they were just a few inches from the ceiling I dropped them... The sounds of screaming filling the house as I lifted them up again dropping them again as they started shouting at me “Get up, First day of school” I shouted walking away as I heard grumbling and moaning coming from both bedrooms. “That’s quiet the wake-up call” Jess said walking down into the kitchen rubbing her eyes as I laughed “Your loved it really” I said pulling out several bowls and all our cereals giving Jess a choice as she quickly picked up the low fat option, pulling the milk out the fridge I floated it over to us as I also pulled out some spoons. “Thanks” she said, I smiled briefly before digging into my own cereal. Minutes after Jess came down the parents joined us, Dad already dressed for work as the women were both in Pyjamas “Why did you wake us up, you don’t have to be there for four hours” mum said moaned as I laughed “This gives us just enough time to practice before school” I said as she moaned “Ok but no fire, I don’t want you burning the house down minutes before you leave” mum said as I looked to Jess “ I have a good idea if you want to practice your water control” I offered her as she grinned excitedly watching me get down from the table as I took my chair to the middle of the lounge. I kept the curtains closed as I sat on the chair. “I’m going to float up some stuff, you create a long water snake from the tap, weave it around the objects but not touching, also the snake can’t touch it’s self” I said as she nodded as I closed my eyes focusing as I lifted myself off the floor holding myself about a foot of the floor as I used my power to turn the tap before lifting up the table and chairs with the women still sat in them as well as ornaments, sofas and pets. Opening my eyes I held everything steady as I watched Jess weave the snake around going close to everything as she made the snake weave around the chairs and table before arriving back near the sink. “How long can you hold this for, as your lifting a lot of things separately?” Bethany asked as I smiled “This is easy, I could do this for a few hours but I would get bored before I ran out of energy” I said hearing her gasp in shock. “You ready Jess, I’m going to start moving everything, your snake still can’t touch” I said as she looked confident as I started moving the table around as she quickly moved the snake so it didn’t hit the legs as I started moving the sofa’s and myself around, clearly making this slightly too hard as I froze everything giving her time to control it all before I started again going slower this time letting her adapt and adjust as she managed to do it easily that time. “Put your water back in the sink and I will set everything back down” I said calmly watching her do that, when she was done I quickly started at one end of the room as I put the table and chairs still containing the parents down as I went around lowering ornaments and sofas before floating my chair over to the table as I set myself down taking a sip of my drink which was still in front of me. “What was that meant to train?” Bethany asked looking at me curiously “Dual motivation, for example in the future Jess may be in a fight, she wants to submerge one person but there are people in the way, it’s all about maintaining the first objective which was to circle everything, but by also not hitting anything else” I said calmly as she nodded “And what were you training?” she asked curiously “Control, to learn where everything is by memory, as everything floated, you may of noticed none of my objects touched” I said watching her chuckle before going back to her bowl of cereal she made herself. For the rest of the morning we got ready doing the odd bit of practice before we headed out the back door straight into Bacra. Looking around I spotted lots more children as I presumed they were all here to join Harrington’s school, floating our cases above us, and placing our pets on top of the cases we walked through the city, avoiding the mages that walked as if we weren’t even there, making us jump out the way to avoid hitting them. Walking along the street in the large stone city we followed the other children finding the mother of all gatherings in the great hall. Not really a hall but more a pantheon as parents lined the outside whilst the kids all chatted in the middle waiting for something to happen. “Give me a hug” mum said suddenly pulling me in for a tight squeeze as by the time she let go I could see she was almost on the verge tears, looking to Bethany I saw she was the same to still hugging Jess as my dad quickly pulled me in for a hug. “Now, I want you to look out for Jess, keep her out of trouble” Dad said as I nodded “You too Jess, you keep him out of trouble” Bethany said as Jess grinned and nodded, we walked down the few steps into the crowd of kids, lowing our cases down Prince slithered onto my shoulders whilst I went a bit lower giving Jonas enough space to jump down safely, Jess quickly picked up his lead keeping him close as we spoke to some other kids. “That’s Brad Cross over there” A girl said to her friends making me quickly look in that direction, I spotted the pale boy that had that evil glint in his eyes, like he was planning every ones death which each thought. Watching Brad I saw him make stone cages over some of the smaller kids laughing as he do so, he sat next to two of his friends who were most likely his side kicks, both rather ugly and hateful. “What’s his problem” I asked looking to the group of girls next to me as they turned to let me into their circle “Brad Cross, Huge bully, but apparently very powerful” she said as I smiled “This is Jess” I said bringing her into the group as she quickly made friends with the pretty girls “Who are you” one of the girls asked me as I smiled “Jamie Dovell” I said giving a slight bow as she blushed “nice to meet you, did you hear that there’s a new strongest mage alive and he’s in our year group, I wonder if he will come to Harrington’s the girl asked trying to hold back my laughing although Jess couldn’t “What’s so funny?” the girls asked looking confused “Never mind, just a joke me an Jess have” I said leaving it at that. “Attention Students, could you please face this way” the older woman said shouting out across the hall. With everybody facing her we listened to her explain what was going to happy, watching her turn around she placed her hand on the giant free standing wooden doors, not connected to anything but once the door opened what appeared on the other side was defiantly not Bacra, it was green and brown and had dense forests. Following the old lady I noticed the temperature drop eliminating the possibility of the rain forest making me guess we were in Norway... Walking for about 2 minutes we arrived at a large open area, horse drawn carriages awaiting us. Placing our suitcases on an empty carriage we both climbed in with our pets closing the doors to try and save valuable warmth. Seconds later the doors either side swung open as two girls stepped in with us, closing the doors they were shivering like crazy in their shorts and t-shirt “Here let me help” I said creating a large fireball in my hand making the entire carriage warm and toasty. “I’m Rosie” the girl in front of me said smiling “Jamie” I replied looking to her sister for her answer “Becky, were from Australia” she said relaxing into her seat whilst the warmth of the carriage surrounded her. Looking at the two girls it was obvious they were twins, same hair, same eye, well same everything that’s what makes them twins. “Tell me, if your twins does that mean you have the same powers and talents” I asked shifting my gaze from twin to twin, “Yes, were both air, as well as talented in Electricity and we even have matching pets being two hawks” Becky said speaking up as she sounds proud to be exactly alike her sister. “Who was born first” I asked looking curiously at them both as Rosie perked up “I was, by 4minutes” she said with such pride “That makes you the duplicate” I told Becky causing us all to laugh. “Why don’t you call your pets in, we don’t want them freezing” I told the two girls as they quickly opened the window allowed two twin hawks to enter in from each side, once they were in I hurriedly used my energy power to close the windows heating up my fireball so we would warm up. Looking out my window to the left I spotted the other carriages rolling up the hill in two single lines. Creating a fire at the top, I opened the windows on the inside side of the carriages. Splitting the fire in half going into each carriage as I put a large fireball about the size of a football in every carriage, with fire balls going left and right students were quickly looking out there windows for the mage doing this but I kept my head in and remained anonymous. “Well aren’t you nice” Rosie said watching me the whole time as I blushed. “Mage life is a dangerous one, don’t want people freezing to death before they even started school” I said lowering my head, noticing this Jess spoke up distracting the girls as they all started talking about Australia and surfing. About an hour into the journey the carriages came to a halt, though as we climbed out all I could see was a large free standing door, with cliff drops on the outside sides of the carriages all the students climbed into the middle of the path. I pulled my fireballs out making a line in the middle. I then stretched the flames out increasing them in size making the fire quickly land on the ground in the form of a large snake, the heat it produced was enough to keep everybody warm as we all unloaded out suitcases from out carriages before walking up the final part of the slope. I was happy that with such power, I could do all this and not really make any obvious movements as I doubt anybody knew it was me controlling it. “Hey, are you the mage that has like major power...” Rosie said before I quickly cut her off putting a finger to my lips giving her the hint as she quickly nodded before turning and walking up the slope next to her sister. Looking around I judged all the students, most looked excited to be here, some more than others as I guessed they were the most powerful, I also saw a few kids looking rather upset as I presumed they weren’t as powerful and weren’t looking forward to a life at the bottom of the dog pile. After a painfully long 30minute walk though the thin path, too rugged and overgrown to pass though with a horse and carriage we arrived at the large wooden door, somehow looking much larger up close because it looked to be the height of my parent’s house. “Ok students, inside you will all leave your suitcases in the main lobby, our school caretaker will take them to your rooms, you however will join the rest of the students in the main hall, and seating is in classes. Now follow me” the old woman said in her rich, wise voice before turning and placing her hand on the large door. Too far away to hear what she said the doors slowly opened revealing the inside, in fact it looked nothing like where we were now. The land was slight mountainous, with this school starting at the bottom of a cliff with an obvious dock, but looked as if the school went into the cliff working its way up to the top of the cliff, with a large castle on top... It looked even bigger knowing that it went all the way down through the cliff behind the rock. Still following the women who surprising walked with a lot of grace for looking in her 60’s, walking along the stone path taking us closer and closer to the castle gates. “I was thinking, if we took the door into the Norway place... why couldn’t of we taken the door all the way here and skipped that frozen death trap” I asked generally as the girls laughed “Because they want to make us suffer” Jess said laughing again in response. “It’s because if you went straight from bacra to the school the school would be broken into all the time, you idiot” a loud voice behind me shouted as I turned finding Brad Cross “I guess that makes sense” I said facing forward as I walked next to Jess keeping her close as the fire snake slithered still between the two rows of students “Hey beautiful” Brad said charging forward pushing my forward taking my place next to Jess “Leave me alone” Jess quickly retorted pushing him away making him rather angry “Don’t be like that, I want you to be my girlfriend” he said slyly pulling Jess into her arms “Get away from me you creep” Jess shouted as everybody stopped moving “I get what I want, and I want you” he shouted grabbing her arm as she screamed loudly echoing through the vast emptiness of open space. “What’s going on here” The old woman shouted teleporting directly next to me catching Brad still holding onto Jess “Nothing miss” Brad said slyly giving that typical line as even the way he said it made it sound like he was lying through his teeth. “Your carriage was several rows back Mr. Cross now please go back there” The teacher said as he puffed out his chest standing his ground. “Very well” she said with a slight smile, walking up to Brad she put her hand on his shoulder before teleporting away. I spotted her right at the back of the queue before teleporting back to us. “Are you ok?” The women asked genuinely as Jess nodded straightening out her clothes before holding onto my hands gripping it tightly. Thinking about Brad I quickly shortened the tail of the snake as I looked to Rosie and Becky “Can you make it windy for him, Jess add some water to it” I said as they giggled as I heard the wind whip round hitting Brad as he stepped in puddles and was hit by rain as he started shivering. “Whoever is doing that stop it before I give you leprosy” Brad shouted as I made a few force fields on the floor as I tripped him up. “Block him from us, so he is left behind” Jess said as I shrugged doing what she asked, I put up a tall force field which he smacked his face into, falling to the ground he cursed loudly but we just kept walking as I sped up the snake causing the teacher to walk a tad faster to stop herself catching on fire. By the time we reached the school brad was about 200meters behind us and clutching his body to keep warm, “Where’s Mr. Cross” The teacher asked as every started looking around as she counted heads “I found him” I said pointing back down the path to him. “Ok, wait here” the teacher said as we all watched brad slowly trudge up the muddy path. Seconds later I saw the teacher appear next to him before they both disappeared landing in the door way, brads clothes soaked as he was shivering like crazy his face and hands looking decidedly blue. “If I find out who did this, you will be sorry” Brad stuttered causing us all to laugh at his threat, his stuttering words having no force to install the fear he wanted. “Ok students, with Mr. Cross warming up, I would like to take this time to welcome you to Harrington’s school for mages. I am Professor Fairheart, I teach Air Class” she said walking through the metal gates, we could see the front door in our sights and I was thankful that I no longer had to walk any further. Stepping into the large front hall we all quickly took a deep sigh of relief dumping our suitcases by the side, dispersing my snake we all relaxed feeling the warmth of the castle wash over us, no more wind, no more water just warmth. “Ok students please follow me to the main hall, dinner will be serve shortly” She said quickly turning and walking away causing us to jog after her to catch up as me and Jess were soon right behind her. Walking down the corridors I gazed at their wonder, all perfectly sized bricks as well as Stone statues that were extremely well made, Professor Fairheart quickly turned opening a large set of doors blasting us with light and sound as inside there must have been about a thousand students, looking down I saw all the empty spaces at the front. Each table had flags above depicting their Class as from the view of the main stage it sat Water, Fire, Air then Earth which was good for me allowing me to block brad in his pursuits of Jess. Sitting down on the outside of the Fire table, I had my back to the water table whilst Jess quickly sat right behind me giving us just enough room to talk and hear her. I watched Brad as he watched Jess, walking to the front corner of the earth table so he could see Jess. “Welcome Students” An old man said bringing my attention to the stage where he stood at a stone podium. The decoration being a mix of the four elements, “Now that you are all here, let us explain some rules” he boomed being surprising loud and clear for a man that looked like he could be anybody’s great granddad, “Firstly, each Class will have a Teacher, and although your teacher will be training you, he is also there to be your guidance counsellor” he said as he looked behind him “Professor Fairheart for Air Class, Professor Krol for Fire, Professor Marsh for Earth and Professor Moon for Water” he said as each Professor stood up giving a slight bow before sitting back down. “You rooms are in Classes and gender, there are no mix gender rooms or mixed class room, we find that being with your own kind promotes competition to help make you want to be better” he said confidently as I couldn’t fault his reasoning, even though I wanted to share a room with Jess. “On another topic, because of last year’s incident of certain boys teleporting into the girls toilets, all teleporting is being carefully monitored, you can still travel to class and other areas of the school, but if caught teleporting into either an opposite genders bedroom or toilet, you will be punished” he said firmly, whilst I was trying to hold back my laughing “And lastly, if anybody has found Hannah Lowe’s Necklace, please return it to her, Thank you” The man said as he stepped down walking behind the desk to his large throne like chair. “Hey Jess, looks like I can’t come and chat at nights anymore” I said leaning back causing Jess to release a girlish giggle. “Hi I’m Tommy Quarrel” the boy next to me said holding has hand out to me, smiling shook his hand feeling his warmth as he wasn’t that powerful though probably still around average compared to other people “I’m Jamie Dovell” I replied to him sitting upright again, before looking around checking the faces of the other fire mages. “So where’s this food, I’m starved” I asked around causing the surrounding group of people to laugh “It’s coming, my brother Jack is in his 3rd year here” Tommy said pointing down the table to the boy that looked like a jock, surrounded by friends all looking to him for what to do, he was defiantly the top fire mage of his year. “Are you going to perform?” Tommy asked curiously, as I shot him a curious look, “Every dinner time, once the food has come out, people go onto the stage over there and perform, doing whatever they like with magic, talents or elements” he said clearly excited. “My brother said that the teachers want to help make as many powerful mage’s as they can, it makes the school look better, so if they see potential in you they will put more effort into helping you study. It’s why nobody wants to be weak as they are basically forgotten about” he said looking rather sad turning back to the table. Looking around I saw the surrounding students looking clearly excited and wanting to perform. We talking for a bit about fire and talents, I never let on I was the really powerful mage they were all trying to guess about. Looking around I saw Rosie and Becky surround by boys... I can’t blame them, attractive Australian twins, who wouldn’t want to get to know them, listening behind me I heard Jess talking to a few of the girls, the boy’s who tried to talk to her she quickly denied before going back to the girls again. I listened for a while to them chat as they kept bringing up her long red hair which she just thanked and moved the conversation along. “Jamie, foods here” Tommy said nudging me, breaking me from my focus of the conversation behind me. Looking down the hall I saw the doors go wide open as dozens of people walked in floating dozens of silver trays around them, walking down each isle they placed the trays on the large wooden table as in a sort of Mexican wave effect they lifted the lids stacking them up in the air by the door, leaving us drooling over the feast they had brought in. Seconds later hundreds of plates started flying through the doors landing directly in front of each person as we all started helping ourselves. “Jamie” a girl asked sitting opposite me “Yes?” I replied being polite looking at her in the eyes as she seemed rather nervous. “Are you that fire mage everybody is talking about” she spurted quickly, as if she had to summon a great deal of courage to ask me “Why do you ask?” I replied as she calmed down “You’re the only one here, not interested in it” she said quietly, as I smiled realising I had been found out “Fine, I am, but don’t tell anybody” I said as the people around me gasped leaning closer to me when Tommy asked Why “Because, I know how the mage world works, look at your brother, he might not be the nicest, or the smartest but he’s the most powerful and is pretty much kingpin of his year” I said confidently whilst Tommy gave a dim nod “I want people to like me for me, not liking me because being around me will increase their popularity” I said firmly as they sat back understanding what I meant “I bet your brother has girls flocking to him, because they want to date the strongest mage in the year, I want to date somebody that will actually like me and not just pretend to like me for my success” I said as they nodded. “So does that mean you’re not going to perform” Tommy asked looking considerably disappointed as he said it “Depends, if I stay hidden then I won’t but eventually people will find out who I am when I have to take four Talent lessons” I said hearing them laugh in response “I’d just come right out, if you make your intentions clear from the start it should be fine, you may have to deny a few girls but other than that you will ok” The boy diagonally from me said proudly causing me to consider it. We talking for a few minutes before stopping as I watched Tommy’s brother stand up walking to the stage as I started his performance... Making a fiery swirl, he spun it into a tornado shooting out fireballs which exploded like fireworks. It only lasted about two minutes as the teen slowly walked back to his seat tired as the halls clapped in applaud “Is that what strong fire is considered?” I asked curiously causing Tommy to laugh, “That was pretty big, most mages can control a flame about the size of a basketball continuously, any larger and it starts to drain us, his was like 10ft tall” Tommy said defending his brother as I nodded “Should I just come right out and do it then” I asked them getting a sudden and vigorous nodding for a answer. Looking over I saw Brad stand up taking a few steps as I quickly stood up as well going first as I walked passed Jess giving her a tap on the shoulder, looking up at me she smiled a huge grin whilst I walked up onto the stage. Looking back I saw Brad walking right up to the stage as he climbed up pushing me off before I even stared, “Get off the stage wimp” he sneered as I felt rage building up in my body. Walking back to my seat I sat down as people wear laughing at me, Brad quickly made a statue, 15ft tall, considerably well made as he made it walk around creating joints as the stone statue lifted him up, carrying him back to his seat. Creating a force field I tripped up the statue causing it to crumble apart whilst brad crashed to the ground, creating a force field around Brad I lifted him up off the floor; leaving his head open from the force field the people around could clearly hear his panicking. Taking a sip of my drink I span Brad around and around going so fast it was just a blur, it only lasted 30seconds but once he threw up I slowed him down before dropping him to the floor whilst the hall laughed at him. “It was you” Brad said walking towards me after finally getting his balance “What was me, I’m just a wimp remember” I said arrogantly as he punched me in the face knocking my back off my seat “Mr. Cross that is enough” Professor Marsh boomed as Brad quickly looked nervous “I don’t know how you behave at your home, but here you do not go around punching students” he said dragging Brad away “But he was the one that span me” Brad pleaded as I sat back in my seat healing my nose, watching him get dragged back to his seat. “Stay in your seat” Professor Marsh snarled through his teeth at Brad before going back to his seat on the large desk with the rest of the teachers. Looking from Professor Marsh to Brad his eyes were squarely on me as I looked at my hands felling them itch as spots quickly covered my face, standing up I looked at my hands then at Brad “Really, you’re going to try that on me?” I said loudly healing my body back up as I created a massive healing aura, my body going so bright it was just pure light as my aura stretched to every wall in the hall healing everything, “You should learn when you are outmatched” I said removing the aura as my body turned back to normal, his face looking angrier than before. “It seems as if the world’s strongest mage has revealed himself” The Headmaster said aloud causing the entire hall to gasp and stare at me as I sat down calmly realising how there was no going back now. “Would you do us the honour of giving us a performance, so we could see the power would could only dream of having” The Headmaster said standing up giving a slight bow as I rolled my eyes “Fine, but stop with the honour stuff, I know just as much as everybody sitting next to me, so don’t treat me differently” I said walking up to the stage as I looked around the hall, all eyes fixed on me. Spotting an empty chair in the fair corner I floated it over to me, sitting down on it as people laughed “I find sitting, helps my concentration” I said smiling as they laughed again. Lifting myself in the chair up to about the middle of the hall, floating myself over to the main stage I lifted up the chairs and table of the teachers as people clapped, soon enough the teachers were at my level as I turned in my seat to face the school, focusing hard I lifted all four tables each about 50meters long as now everybody was my height and cheering. Opening my eyes I held the position we were all in as I gently lowered everybody back down to the ground floating myself back over to the performance stage as everybody finally hit the ground softly clapping for me. Standing up I gave a slight bow before walking to my seat floated the chair back to where I found it, “That was amazing” Tommy said as I sat down “Thanks” I said calmly looking down at my table as I drink my glass of water. “I see what you mean when you said about the girls” Danny said, as I looked diagonally to my left at him following his gaze as girls from my year and the years above wear all watching me. “Thank you for that excellent display” The Headmaster said as I didn’t even look at him. The next day was a bore, I was roomed with Tommy and Danny, who although were nice guys they kept making me feel so high and mighty because I was more powerful, and frankly I wanted to be powerful, I just wanted to be treated normally. The entire day’s lessons were also a bore, Fire Class well all learned about defining you flame to make shapes which I had mastered on the first day I could make fire, and Energy class was about levitation and after flicking through the text book, I found I was already beyond 1st year stuff. Luckily for me I used this to my advantage, I drifted through what others called the important lessons as I focus on the minor lessons like history and potions as that way I would be top in every class. Surprisingly, although my lessons were mainly just Fire class students, I wasn’t obsessed over as much as I thought, I after I got a few questions wrong of course people quickly understood that I was equal to them, no girls draped over me, and no guys shied away from me, I was what I would consider a normal student. It still sucked, not seeing Jess much but we met up every break and lunch as well as after all our lessons were over, we studied together in the library. “How was Water Class?” I asked sitting down at the Fire table for dinner finding Jess in the same seat as last time, with her back directly behind mine. “Was Ok, Brad was trying to talk to me during your Energy Class” Jess said as I felt my anger rise “Put him in his place” I said back hearing her giggle “Were not all as strong as you” Jess said turning in her seat to face me, doing the same I smiled a nice heart warming smile “Let’s embarrass him” I said standing up, walking over to the performance stage as people cheered and clapped. “Looking at Brad, I made a fireball in my hand as I grew it, moulding it out as it quickly took the form of Brad. Walking the fiery human up to brad I made it copy his actions as people laughed “Do you like the resemblance” I said walking the fiery person back as I made him pee a fiery stream on the steps leading up to the main stage as people laughed, Brad’s head dropping to hide his shame. Creating some fiery skeletons from the ground I made all three of the figures flex their arms as instead of bulging, I made them droop like you would see in a cartoon causing the students to again laugh at Brad. Walking the figures back to the performances stage I made one skeleton into a bony throne as the second knelt down and became a foot rest for the copy of Brad, walking myself up to the side I spouted fire from my hands into the throne, making the skeletons turn into a pile of fiery dust on the floor as Brad’s figure landed on his ass. I quickly made Brad’s figure stand up trying to act tough as I made some fireballs in my hand to which Brad’s fiery figure ran away in fear waving his hands above his head as I made the figure run out the door before dispersing it. The students laughed and cheered as I sat back down, brad looking really angry glaring at me as smiled at him sipping me drink, before turning my attention to the table, “That was awesome” Danny said laughing, evaporating his tears as they rolled down his face. The next day I yet again was drifting through Fire class as I fiddled with a fiery hare, making it hop around the air in perfect detail. “Mr. Monrow, can I have a word in my office please” Professor Kroll said firmly as the class made a collective “ooooh”, I followed the teacher to beyond the front of the class into his office. “I understand that a student or your... Talent, may find my these 1st year lessons boring” he said leaning against his desk with his usual calm and casual mood, “It’s not just your class, I browsed the text books and I can do things they’re teaching people to the 3rd years here” I said as he chuckled “Well, how would you like to solve this problem, as we can’t have you going around being bored all day” he asked calmly giving my answer in the form of a shrug. “Maybe you could get me, the textbooks for all my lessons, so I can study the higher stuff in the lessons. So I would be learning 3rd year fire stuff in your lessons and 3rd year energy stuff in energy lessons” I offered hopefully. “I can do that, Also I have a small gift for you” he said standing up, walking around his desk rummaging through a few draws before finding whatever he was searching for, “You will learn some of these during Enchantment class, but as you may already know most enchants are spells, but this pendant has a fire enchant that helps your natural element” he said happily handing the small pendant to me, it looked nice as I noticed it was the same shape flame as on my bracelet dad bought me. Pulling my sleeve back I placed it in the slot as the chrome flashed growing slightly as it covered the edges of the pendant trapping it in the bracelet “Oh wow, you have a Enchantment Bracelet” he said walking back around in front of my as he took hold of my wrist examining it. “Yeah, these are quiet rare, you place you enchanted pendants in here and it keeps it sealed and close, before they would be on a necklace or bracelet and if were torn from you, you lost the enchant, these keep them close” he said giving me my wrist back as I now felt even more excited and proud of my gift dad got me. “You have a lot of spaces for Enchants, once the base ring is full a second one usually appears above, though I doubt you will ever find enough enchants that you would need constantly on you” he chuckled before shrugging “anyway, the pendant I gave you has a Fire proof enchant on it, meaning you can set yourself on fire and your body and clothes will remain intact” he explain to me. Grinning widely I set my arm on fire before dispersing the flame finding my arm completely undamaged, “Thanks sir” I quickly said remembering my graces before he led my out of his office back into the class. “Miss. Hail, Do I have attention” Professor Moon asked grabbing the attention of Jess, breaking her from her day dream “Yes, sorry miss” Jess quickly replied causing her teacher to frown in wonder before starting to teach again. Learning about creating water she was currently top of her class having lots of practice making drinks for Jamie, “Miss. Hail, I would like to speak with you after class, please” her Professor asked looking at Jess, who nodded in reply before focusing back on her current task. As the lesson ended the students quickly filled out, excited to have a break whilst Jess walked up to her professor who was tidying up the puddles of water dotted around the room lifting them up and putting the water into a bucket. “What’s bothering you?” Professor Moon asked in her soft high pitch voice making Jess more worried “It’s Brad Cross” Jess said quickly as the Professor sighed “I see, is he trying to ask you out, but he doesn’t give up when you say no” the Professor said causing Jess to look up “Exactly, I just want him to leave me alone” She said slumping into a nearby chair “What about Mr. Dovell, I see you two together a lot during breaks and your always leaning back to back talking at dinner” Her Professor asked as Jess giggled. “Yeah, Jamie I like but he’s very protective, I know he’s powerful but... I don’t know” Jess said holding her head in her hands as her Professor laughed “Let me guess, He’s powerful, but you don’t think he can control the power he has, and you don’t want him killing Brad when he catches him trying it on with you” Her professor said as Jess perked up “Yeah, how do you know this?” she asked in wonder as her professor giggled “I was in a similar position back when I was in school, although my Jamie wasn’t as powerful as yours” She said making Jess smile feeling a slight bit of superiority. “What did you do?” Jess asked looking hopefully up at her Professor, “I dated my version of Jamie, he defended me as a boyfriend instead of a friend, and he’s now my husband” Professor Moon said causing Jess to gasp. “You think I should date Jamie?” Jess said aloud in shock “That’s just what I did, it’s down to you who you date, I just hope you date him for the right reasons, don’t do it just because he’s powerful like so many other girls do” Professor Moon said making Jess think about it. “Well, is there anything else bothering you?” She asked calmly sitting down on the chair next to Jess “I think that’s it, this whole fuss with Brad is distracting me” Jess said rather glumly looking at her Professor “Ok, Pull out your wand, I’m going to teach you a spell, but you don’t tell anybody where you learnt it. We normally only teach it to you in your last year because students tend to abuse it, but I don’t think you would” she said pulling out her wand as well. “The word is Crowdarh, but you have to say it as a whisper, also you must have the tip of your wand touching your body” She explained whilst Jess did the actions, “This spell, will turn you completely invisible, including everything your carryings such as, bags and clothes so you the next time Brad is trying it on, walk away and the second you’re out of sight do this spell and you can run away safely, but be warned it only lasts for about 2minutes, so you will have to cast it again” She said to Jess who now looked considerably calmer knowing a way out of Brads path. “Thank you” Jess said gratefully standing up giving her professor a quick hug before walking out the class room door. “Where have you been?” I asked sitting alone in the library whilst Jess walked down the Aisle towards me “Professor Moon asked me to stay and talk” She said calmly as I smiled “Were you given anything?” I asked smiling to her as she quickly looked shocked. “What did you receive?” she asked curiously watching me pull my sleeve back revealing my bracelet “You had that before?” Jess said giggling, “I know, he gave me this pendant, it’s enchanted to make me fire proof” I said proudly turning the bracelet to reveal the wood flame pendant inside the chrome “Oh that’s cool, Professor Moon just helped my get the hang of some water movements I kept messing up” she lied hoping it would be enough, which to her luck it was. “We have our first lesson together next” I said grinning looking down at my book, although watching Jess in the top of my vision as she pulled out her books. “I know I’ve been looking forward to it all week” Jess said as I was startled, “You have?” I asked looking squarely at her now watching her face at it started to redden as she blushed. “Yeah, you’re always fun and it’s the class I know that I have no chance at failing if I’m with you” Jess said quickly, smiling at the end as I couldn’t help but feel a bit sad that she was using me for grades. Walking into the Animal Lesson we were greeted with what I could only describe as a hippy, young with long hair and that always happy mood like he was on something. “Welcome students, please walk around the room and choose an animal, don’t fret, you will change animal each week so pick any” he said sounding doped up sitting on his desk at the front of the class. Walking around with Jess we saw basically all the animals in a pet store, though are rather moody dragon caught my attention. Picking him up by the waist he wriggled and snapped trying to bite my fingers as I looked into his mind “Strong, confident and trapped” I muttered under my breath catching the attention of the dragon, his eyes staring into mine “You’re strong, no student here can read my mind” he said in a rather posh foreign accent “New worlds strongest” I thought back smiling as I heard a laugh “Maybe you could help me escape, that moron is off his face on something, just look at him. I’ve seen gold fish with more common sense than him” the dragon said as I couldn’t but laugh. “Oh your funny” I said placing him on my shoulder as he didn’t fight it but just sat there looking around whilst I walked back to me seat “You child, you can read Dylan?” the teacher asked pointing at me, “Sure he’s a funny guy, oh and his name is Arcadias, seriously who names a dragon Dylan” I said sitting down as the class laughed “Not even I can read his mind, who are you child” The teacher asked causing most the class to laugh “I’m Jamie Dovell, I’m the current world’s strongest mage” I said confidently whilst Professor Hugh gasped “I knew it” he said causing the class to erupt in laughter watching him walk back to his desk. “First lesson, know your animals, you have to gain trust. Yes, it’s all about trust” Professor Hugh said getting quieter and quieter before mumbling to himself. “I’ve been here four years, the bumbling idiot, doesn’t know a text book from a sock” Arcadias said jumping onto the table watching the Professor pace around his desk whilst we all watch getting rather concerned for him now. “Here, Jamie” Arcadias said getting my attention “Lift me up, I’ll take the lesson, At least I will be better than him” He said confidently. Lifting him up onto my shoulder I walked up to the professor as he watched me “Do you want to sit, down arcadias said he would take the class” I said holding his shoulder and hand, the professor looked at me then the dragon before nodded “I best your right, I haven’t slept much lately” he rambled not making much sense, pulling out his chair I sat the teacher down before turning to take the class as I relayed Arcadias’s thoughts “Ok Class, please excuse my bumbling friend, my name is arcadias, I have been here four years and am currently a better teacher than him” I said as the class chuckled. “What his says is true, you do need trust as a base, without trust we would even attempt to listen to you. Now trust is gained in various ways, either helping with our plans, feeding or caring for us” I said facing the class with all eyes focused on me as they held their animals. “When focusing on your animal, you should start to feel emotions, be it fear, excitement or even hunger. Do this to gain trust” I said watching the class as they quickly focused on their parents grinning when they felt the emotions, most quickly followed by grabbing some food or lessening their grip allowing the animals to move. “Good, another key part of your animal talent is to read animals minds, like this human is currently doing to me” I said chuckling as they class laughed “Although mind reading is not essential, it does help specify, deciding on certain food and living requirements” I said sitting on the desk watching the class. “If you’re having trouble with this, try and push you emotions onto the pet, find common ground between your emotions to build trust, if you have gained enough trust you should be able to read their mind with ease” I explained the class getting a tiny piece of beef for Arcadias as he snapped it from the air in front of him swallowing it in a few gulps. “Thanks” he said to me nodding his little head as I nodded mine back. “Practice this until you can read their mind with ease, but remember that the trust will be equal if you can read your animals mind, they can read yours. Consider it a slightly lesser version of the bond you have with your pets” I said sitting on the desk in front of the Professor who was still rambling to himself incoherently. As the lesson passed Arcadias taught as all, including me a few tricks on getting trust and how to treat your pets with kindness such as placing them on your shoulder as It makes them feel like equals being at head height instead of in your palm which makes them feel like they are being carried. “Ok Class that’s it for today, put your animals back and go for your next lesson” I said calmly walking Arcadias back to his cage. Jumping of my shoulder onto my hand I placed him inside closing the lid before walking up to Jess whilst she waited for my be the door, “You ok?” I asked noting her rather sad expression “I’m fine, one class a week with you and your the teacher” she spat quickly storming off out the room, the nearby students giving me their sympathy as I stood in the corridor amazed and confused. “What did I do wrong?” I asked myself aloud not noticing a girl walk up behind me “You did things in the wrong order” she said calmly as I looked at her, I remembered her face from the walk and she sat with Jess on the water table in the main hall. “You’re meant to get the girl before you act all responsibly” she said as taking hold of my hand pulling my down the corridor. “What do you mean, I have no girlfriend” I said blindly following her as she pulled me into a spiralling staircase taking me down a floor into what I could only presume was a storage room of sorts. “Who are you?” I asked even more confused finally taking note of my surroundings, before looking down at the girl being just a few inches taller than her “I’m Sophie. Sophie de Bell, I share a room with Jess” she said holding her hand out for me to shake, “Jamie Dovell” I said giving her a light handshake still confused by everything. “Oh your warm” Sophie said pulling her hand away shaking it rapidly whilst grinning, “Look, before you get the wrong idea I don’t want to date you, I know your powerful which a lot of girls look for but I want to fall in love” she said relaxing me slightly causing me to smile and sit down on a nearby crate as Sophie quickly sat down next to me. “What’s on your mind?” Sophie asked still holding my hand smiling up at me whilst I watched her briefly before sitting back trying to wrap my head around it “Jess, she just flipped and I’m confused” I said flatly looking up at the ceiling “Don’t mind her, she just has some conflicting emotions right now” Sophie told me moving ever so slightly closer to me. “So what do I do?” I asked hopefully looking to Sophie for an answer her only reply being a smile before leaning in closer resting her head on my shoulder as she put her legs on mine feeling the heat radiate through her body. “It’s up to you, but like I said she has conflicting emotions right now so just give her some space” she explained to me gradually wrapping her arms around my chest like a satchel. “Hey girls, you seen Sophie” Jess asked meeting up with her new Water mage friends in their common room, nobody replied to Jess as they looked half concerned and have worried. “What going on?” Jess asked noticing these looks, as he friends began stuttering to find the right words to say, “We know you like Jamie, but after you stormed off out that class Ella said she saw Sophie drag Jamie off after you left him standing in the corridor all confused” Joanna said, being one of the girls that was carefree and spoke her mind “Oh” Jess said sitting on the sofa quietly as she was now in shock “It’s not your fault, Ella told us everything that happened in class about the teaching and we all knew how excited you were to spend a lesson with him” Betty said speaking up moving over to the sofa to comfort Jess “I think...I think I’m going to go to bed” Jess said quietly, almost as a whimper before silently standing up heading for the staircase leading up to the bedrooms. “Ok, get some rest” Betty said again still sitting on the sofa as all the girls watched Jess walk away, her head low and her shoulders slack, the perky cheerful girl they knew looked defeated. “I have a serious problem with this Dovell pest” Brad muttered to himself sitting in the boys common room “Ok Mark tell me everything you know about Jamie Dovell” Brad snapped viciously now laying spread out on the sofa as Mark grinned “We know he is weak. Powerful in magic, but weak he values friendship and love too much. We could inflict pain on those closest to him because we can’t harm him” Mark said confidently looking to Joe his fellow side kick “Yes, we also know that Electricity is his weakest talent, and he has a fondness for Jess Hail” Joe said perking Brad’s attention. “My Jess, nobody touches her but me. I want plans to get rid of him, humiliate the wimp” Brad said smiling his evil grin, the glare of the fire on his white teeth as they planned my demise deep into the early hours of the morning. “Ladies and gentlemen, I would like you to welcome Miss Summer Fall. I recent transfer from Lady P’s school for ladies, please take a seat my dear” The headmaster bellowed as the whole school watch the young beauty walk down the few steps sitting directly opposite me on the table. I think she may have said something, a greeting of some kind but in all honest I was so focused on her face every feature so perfect I didn’t answer a single question. “Gorgeous, I’m mean... Sorry. I’m Jamie” I said quickly stuttering like a fool as most the girls around us giggled including summer, whilst I noticed the boys were still staring. “Why did you transfer?” I asked taking a gulp of my drink trying to calm my nerves, my eyes never leaving her just in case I closed them and she vanished “Because of you actually” she said as I almost spurted my water in her face. “Yeah, my parents want the best for me and they think that being around the best will make me better so they transferred me” Summer said looked not really that bothered about it, whilst I blushed “I’m hardly the best... Strongest maybe, but not the best” I said trying to be modest as she giggled. “Either way, I’m stuck here now” She said smiling taking a sip of her drink which she did so quite politely and elegantly. “So tell me summer, how strong are you?” I asked noting how this was just our conversation with everybody listening in “12 spikes 10minutes” She said with such pride as I smiled “Impressive” I told her looking at her blush her smiling growing wider “Yourself?” she asked quickly regaining her composer and sitting straight again. “45 Spike 80 minutes” I said looking at her as her jaw dropped “How, did you last so long?” she asked fascinated as I smiled “I figured, the two parts of the status was to endure the pain and to keep your eyes closed as you know opening them stops the pain so you have to want the pain to continue, which people can’t handle” I said watching her nod following my logic “So, when it started I took out some tape and I taped my eyelids shut” I said as she gasped “I’ve heard of people doing that, but it doesn’t always work” she said I as nodded “I planned to use the tape to reach 12 spikes then I would take it off but once I did reach that target I couldn’t get the tape off, it was stuck firm, I couldn’t open my eyes with it on me so I could only endure the pain” I said as she and everybody gasped as I heard the chatter around me vanish, all ears focused on me “The burning sun lasted exactly one hour, I got a 4 second break before the spikes started again as well as the burning sun, the sun being hotter and the spikes being faster as I took the 33 additional spikes in a space of 20minutes” I said calmly taking a gulp of my drink “It was only after being in status for so long that I had sweated enough to weaken the tape on my face allowing me to bend it opening my eyes and ending my torture” I told them all eyes riveted to me, nobody taking a single drink or bite to eat, just pure undivided attention. “If anything, you are stronger than me, I only lasted about 2 minutes into the burning sun before I was trying to open my eyes but couldn’t” I said her smile wide as I quickly changed topic. “So if you are the most powerful mage, does that mean you’re more advanced in your studies?” Summer asked nicely my reply being a nod, “I’ve been studying since I was 10, I went though status in June, I was practicing and training at home throughout the summer, I could teleport, control any animal and sustain a healing aura with a 30 meter radius without losing any energy before I started, all of which are 3rd and 4th year abilities” I said her smile widening “I’m talented in Energy as well, but I can’t teleport yet, but I can make copies of myself” she said as I smiled “I haven’t learnt that one yet” I said honestly as she grinned “Wanna swap, copies for teleport” she said excitedly to which I nodded before explaining teleportation to her “Just focus where you want to be and you should teleport there” I told her, watching her eyes close and focus before quickly vanishing and then reappearing sitting sideways on my lap “It worked” she said happily, whilst I was a bit startled but recovering quickly. “Oh and for copies, it’s more like pulling a part of yourself away, it ends up making like a hologram, perfectly real to touch and see but they are like robots, controlled by your mind” she said as I nodded closing my eyes to focus as I opened them watching the copy of myself appear in the exact attire I wore being the school robes. “Neat” I said to myself happily getting the hang of it as I made several more copies, as I made them all them watch me “Anybody got a music spell?” I asked the table causing Tommy to perk up as he pulled out his wand “Melodus” he said flicking his wand as around the room loud classical music started playing as I made more copies going to the girls in the front seats of the hall as well as a few of the female teachers. Standing up myself I took Summer’s hand as we all started dancing in the open space to the clapping and cheering of the school, “So what can these copies do?” I asked summer giving a spin to all my dance partners “They can hear everything next to him like you can, and also if you practice hard you can make them talk” she said moving with the dance as we swapped partners as I now had Professor Moon as my partner “You look absolutely wonderful this evening” I said smiling as secondly later all the copies said the exact same thing, “Thank you, I must say for one so young, you dance very well” she replied causing me to blush slightly, “Home schooled by a stay at home mum, she prided herself on teaching me everything she wanted in a man, dancing, cooking, massages.” I told her spinning all the dancers as she smiled “She did a splendid job then” She asked before the chorus changed and I changed partner, now being with Jess. “I was hoping to get to you before the song ended” I said as she looked away “If you don’t want to tell me what’s up, I won’t push it. But don’t lie to me or ignore me” I said firmly spinning her and pulling her back in, giving quickly glances to the girls in their seats who obviously wanted a go. “If you want to dance, get off your table and find a partner” I shouted loudly as there was a quickly hustling before I focused my mind lifted the 4 long tables high into the air as soon the entire main hall was full of teens dancing together. “In the corner, some girls don’t have partners” Jess said looking at whilst I quickly created more copies giving them partners as nobody was left out. This dance went on for another 10minutes and two more songs before I casually lowered the tables down pulling everybody to the main stage before they walked to their seats happy. Walking back to mine the copies quickly stepped into me vanishing as although unnecessary I thought it looked like a much cooler way to get rid of them “You were all wonderful partners” I said aloud taking a slight bow before sitting listening to the giggling coming from the girls hearing a few loud “Thank you” ‘s back. Sitting back in my room after dinner, I was talking to Danny and Tommy whilst reading my 2nd year Enchantments text book; I found it fascinating, the ability to lock a spell into an object. Although my roommates were more interested in talking about how stunning Summer was or thinking about the other girls which would be open as all the other boys went and tried to hit on Summer... It seemed Summer had become a common talking point for the whole of my year making me wonder if Brad would have a new target to force himself upon. Thinking that, Summer seemed like the sort of girl that can handle herself, she has to be strong otherwise she wouldn’t of turned out being fire class and with the energy talent, as well as being nearly equally matched to Brad it was nearly a fair fight. Leaving the boys to their mental ogling, I put myself to bed drifting off into the sweet nothingness thinking of nothing just feeling the fire of my spirit and power burning brightly inside of me. The next morning, I woke up with much more enthusiasm than the other mornings. Getting myself washed and dressed I quickly walked down into the main hall finding breakfast already on the table as Jess sat with her friends on her table, Sitting down in my usually spot I leant back placing a force field bellow my back as I pulled Jess back till we were both lying down my head just to the right of hers as she looked at me “What are you learning in Water class today?” I asked thinking of a safe topic as she smiled “more detail and controlling large amounts of water” she said watching me take a bite out of an apple “ I was wondering, you can control water so does that mean you can make somebody.. You know, piss themselves” I asked as all the girls started laughed “Would you like to find out?” Claire said as I looked at her “Not unless you want me to put a force field in your mouth and grow it until your can’t talk” I said grinning as she scowled playfully at me. “Is that a dare?” she shot back at me quickly as I quickly made the force field hearing her murmur and drool down her chin as she couldn’t swallow. “Anyway, we still meeting up for lunch?” I asked Jess looking back at her, her smile wide and warm as she nodded. “Good, I look forward to it, do you want me to remove the force field on your friend, or should we let her suffer for the day” I offered hearing some louder sounds coming from Claire as she was trying to talk but couldn’t and just looked at me pleadingly. “Let her go, don’t be mean” Jess said giggled as I removed the force field. “See you girls later” I said sitting us both up, before picking up my apple and walking out the main hall. “Leave me alone creep” I heard a girl said as I rounded the corner finding Summer in a stone cage as Brad and his side kicks laughed at her “Oh Jamie, please help me” Summer said as I leant against the wall watching “Think about what I taught you and get yourself out, people aren’t always going to be there to help you” I said looking to Brad picking up him and his sidekicks in a force field as I grew a plant through the walls making the vines tie them up, sealing them to the sealing as Summer teleported just outside the cage walking up to me. “When are you going to let them down?” she asked looking up at the mass of vines covering the body’s as you could easily tell bodies were inside just you couldn’t see who. “Somebody will find them and do that part for me” I said calmly walking her away heading towards our first class. “Ok class, before we get practicing, who can tell me the best use for fire?” Professor Kroll asked the class, his eyes scanning every face as hands shot up “Heat” “Attacking”... “Intimidation” Summer said finally giving the answer he was looking for, “Yes thank you. Intimidation, the ability to put fear into your opponent to force them to back down, mage battles are lengthy, if a mage talented in life they are even longer. Using intimidation to force your opponent to back down ends the disagreement without the colossal damage” He said moving us to the open space on the other side of the room. “Now, you’re going to take it in turns to make yourself truly threatening, intimidate us” Professor Kroll said enthusiastically. Taking to the open space all the boys seemed to be doing their bit to impress Summer, all trying to show off for her, whilst others were just trying to make a flame as big as they could handle. “You’re up Jamie” Tommy said grinning watching me “Ok, well, you might want to watch this from a further distance” I cautioned them watching as they quickly walked to the far end of the room huddling up to watch me. Looking down at the open space around me and at the room I thrust my arms wide to the side spouting huge torrents of fire, controlling the flames with ease I turned them into a fiery wall which blocked them in the room. Setting myself on fire in a flash of flames the students covered their eyes and when cautiously opened them finding a fiery figure, the flames tight against my skin as instead of flickering up they lay flat, the only parts that flickers was the top of my head, my shoulders, hands and the backs of my feet, increasing in size going from bottom to top. With all the students eyes watching me now, I roared at them making detailed fiery chains spout from my mouth in four long lengths pinning them against the wall where they stood, hearing screams and students cowering I pulled back the flames dispersing them all, for by the time they finally uncovered their eyes again I stood watching them, not a flame in sight. “That was amazing!” Danny said rushing towards me, a grin on his face that was unprecedented. “Thanks, I thought the fiery chain was a good move to frighten you” I said jokingly making them laugh “Professor Kroll, is it ok if we quickly go get changed” Chloe said being one of the screamers as I looked at them noticed the wet patches on their robes. Summer quickly teleported all of them out of their back into their dorm, whilst I sat with the boys and Professor Kroll who all seemed impressed. “How did you get such big flames, but not burn anything on the walls?” Professor Kroll asked looking around “I cheated, I placed a force field behind my fire so if it did spread, it would only spread inwards” I explained it to him, “That’s very clever of you” he said smiling as we chatting a bit about other ideas I could use. “Isn’t he so hot” Claire said talking to the girls as they changed their robes “If you mean temperature wise, yeah he is rather heated. If you mean looks, yes again I find him rather cute” Summer said sounding dominant as they girls gossiped “So are you prepared to fight for Jamie’s affections” Claire looking at summer as she grinned “Depends if he’s worth fighting for, he’s powerful yes, but he’s soft. Anyway you’re not much of a competition” Summer said that wave of superiority washing over her filling her up with self pride. “Oh were not the competition, Jess Hail is. She’s known him since before school, I heard they met in his First trip to Bacra when he got Classified, been best of friends ever since but everybody know that she’s falling in love with him... well everybody except Jamie” Claire said as Summer smiled rather wickedly. “I see, well let’s see if Jamie is worth the fight first” Summer said rather slyly as the girls stood ready in the middle of the dorm room waiting for Summer to teleport them back. “Welcome back ladies” Professor Kroll said watching them take their seats, Summer now sitting next to me as she focused on the lesson. Pulling out my 4th year text book, I started flicking through the chapters to catch up to where I previously was leave my ears open to Professor Kroll as he went on about ways to control your fire. “Chapter 3 – Mixing Abilities, If you are also talented in energy, you can coat you energy creations in fire, also filling up a small spherical force field with fire, using it as a explosive projectile”. Creating a miniature whip I changed the colour of my force field, making it visible. Creating fire on my finger I set the whip on fire as I snapped it a few times watching the flame flick in the air send of small embers as it recoiled. “Mr. Dovell, please keep the fire displays for either after class or in the main hall for all to see” He said firmly looking directly at me as I dispersed the flame and removed my force field whip. Walking out of the lesson having read 2 more chapters on the 4th year textbook, Summer followed me. Not really noticing her I teleported to my room as I picked up Prince who was nice and big now, roaming the corridors eating the rodents that broke in looking for a warm place to sleep. “Hello Handsome” I said stroking prince’s head as he got himself comfortable on my shoulders, not saying a word we teleported into the library as Jess stood in the middle looking for me and smiled widely watching me walk down the steps to her. Finding ourselves I quiet table I pulled out my 4th year books as she was reading her first year ones “You’re up to 4th year books now?” Jess asked shocked checking the cover of the book “Considering I knew half of it already, there’s not much that’s brand new for me to learn” I said looking at her book as she had her water text book out “Must be the same for you, you can do so much more than what your currently doing, I bet you haven’t done anything as complex since our training session the morning before we left my house” I said as she sighed “I’ll ask Professor Moon, for some more books to study. What about you, you’re going to have finished all the books by next month and then you’re going to be bored for 6 years” she said sounding concerned as I shrugged “With studying out the way, I can do more things that are fun, such as visit Bacra, try out for the competitions and tournaments” I said exciting Jess as it was obvious she wanted to do this. “Ok new plan. You help me train and study, get me ahead so I can go have fun with you” she said as I grinned “Ok and what do I get from this deal” I asked grinning as I was in control now. “What do you want?” she asked curiously as I grinned “I want to you to teach me how to act around girls, magic I can do, Relationships...not so much” I said blushing as Jess looked away embarrassed “Who the lucky girl” Jess asked quickly trying to stir her mind away from thought “I don’t know yet, I just want to be able to do the right thing and not making myself look like a fool” I said lifting Jess’s spirits slightly as she smiled at me before focusing back on her book. “Can I help you?” Joanna asked aggressively standing in the doorway to the Water Class Girls common room “Is Jess around, it’s about Jamie” Claire said looking nervous as Joanna stepped to the side letting her in. “Why did you bring a Fire mage in here, Joanna” Betty asked starting at Claire, “She says she has information for Jess about Jamie, and I think we would all like to hear this message to relay it to her as she is currently unavailable” Joanna said in a strict voice. “well, I’ve been talking to Summer today and although she says that she is waiting to see if Jamie is worth her time, she sounds like she has already decided. She likes him because of his power and if Jamie was to date one of them I would pick Jess hands down. I thought I should let you know, and prepare she’s going to try and one up you at all costs and possibly try to break Jamie’s currently friendship with Jess” Claire said as the girls looked worried “Well Thanks for telling us” Betty said watching Claire as she walked back out the door. Next lessons was Life and enchantments and yet again Summer sat down right next to me, constantly trying to talk to me and chat whilst I was trying to concentrate on the lesson. “Miss. Fall can you please pay attention and stop distracting Mr. Dovell” Professor Leighton asked frustrated losing his trail of thought from the lesson at hand. “Sorry Sir” Summer quickly chimed moving her focus from me to him. “Now class, there are many different enchantments, mainly involving magic, but there are also a few rare ones that affect talents and elements” he said watching the class grinning thinking they could make themselves stronger “But, there are no enchantments to increase power, only helpful but overall useless enchants” he said smiling listening to the class groan in disappointment “Who can name me an enchantment that’s not for magic” he asked curiously as I people shrugged “Fire Proof” I said loudly getting his attention. “Indeed The fire proof enchantment is probably the most common of the fire element enchantments, do you have it?” he asked as I smiled holding out my wrist pointing to the small wooden pendant lodged inside. “Very impressive, how did you come by it?” he asked focusing all of the classes attention on me “The bracelet was a gift from my father, the pendant was a gift from Professor Kroll after I explained that making big fire’s was causing my clothes to catch fire” I said as the class laughed. “I see. Now we are going to be doing a basic enchantment that I think you will enjoy, as the enchant you will be making causes your body to change into what you deem your perfect self” he chipped happily whilst the class got all excited. “Anhava belle dow chanett” I said with the tip of my wand on the pendant sitting on the desk. Watching the pendant flash once I quickly picked it up creating a mirror with another spell as I watched my body bulk up, my teeth become pearly white as me skin was still pale but spotless. Looking around I saw the girls watching me, that dreamy eye look evident as they too were changing, most girls were typical. Growing taller, having boobs and a slim waist as everybody started to look about 16/17. “Who can tell me why this enchantment is so famous?” Professor Leighton asked looking around “Because, although you look stronger and fitter, you’re still just as physically strong as you normal 12 years old body, also when people are obsessed with celebrities this enchantment will make them look like an exact copy and have gone around impersonating them” Tommy said clearly clued in as our Professor nodded. “Please hand your pendant’s back in so I can remove the enchant, if you want the body you saw, I recommend hard work at the gym and possibly good luck with your genetics” he said chuckling as I lifted everybody pendant of the desk putting them in the tray next to the teacher just so I knew nobody would take them. At the end of the lesson I quickly teleported away, landing outside Jess’s Potion’s class which I had tomorrow. “Hello, you ready to study” I asked Jess the second she stepped out the classroom looking very happy to see me. “Yup, let’s do this” she said confidently as I took her hand teleporting into the library by our table, quickly taking a seat I sat next to her so I could read her books with her. Not even 10minutes into studying I heard an alarm go off, blearing loudly as they were no speakers to be found, it was like the sound came from every brick in the building. Grabbing Jess I teleported outside where a large crowd had already gathered before teleporting back in grabbing loads of people teleporting them out as soon enough everybody was out in the courtyard at the front of the castle. “What happened?” I asked looking at Professor Kroll he was rounding us up. “I don’t know, the teachers are going to find out now” he said quickly walking away we all stood waiting, everybody gossiping trying to drown out the noise of the alarm. “How much do you want to bet Brad is behind this” I asked Jess as she chuckled “Who are they?” Jess said pointing to the dark mage walking towards them “Trouble” I said standing in front of her to protect her. Suddenly I felt myself being teleported, my stomach twisted and churned roughly as whoever the mage was, was defiantly not being gently about it. Opening my eyes I found myself in a large dark room surrounded hundreds of Dark mages dressed in black. “Calm down, you have and will not be harmed” a cold voice boomed as heads turned finding the source as I spotted a older man, only around 50 but his hair brilliant white and his face pale making him look like her was born to do evil. “What do you want” a fifth year boy shouted stepping forward as the mages pulled out their wands in haste aiming at the teen “You are here to join my cause, to live with me and become powerful mages and when I say you will fight with us” he said calmly not even moving from his stone throne as he looked at us. “And what if we refuse” a girl said speaking up, “Then you will die”. “Ummm, excuse me. Who’s going to be killing us” I asked politely taking a few steps forward getting the attention of the mage, “I could easily do it myself, but Jin here has a fondness for killing children so I have allowed him the pleasure” the man said flopping his hand to the left to point at the large bulky man that must of stood about 7ft tall and dwarfed my 4ft9 frame “I see. Tell me Jin, how powerful are you?” I asked curiously as the class sniggered and chuckled at my questions “12 spikes and 15minutes” he grunted with what I thought was pride but it could quite easily been saliva, “I see you were the world’s strongest” I said as he growled “I still am” he shouted back at me in angry “Didn’t you hear, your record was broken” I said chuckling as he stepped forward picking up a large rock from the ground as he threw it at me. I put up a force field quickly but the blow broke through it sending my fly backwards as I landed on the floor rolling to the stop “Puny child” he said laughing whilst I just stared up at the ceiling. “That tickled” I said the students looking down at me as Jess helped me up to me feet. “My turn” I shouted creating a force field spear as I threw it was all my natural strength and then added tons of power to it with my energy as it flew towards him, Using his earth power his lifted up a wall of stone out the ground but my spear being too powerful broke straight through it slicing the man down the side of his stomach, only just hitting him and being too far away to do some serious damage. The man lowered the wall holding the large cut on his side with his hand as he stared at me. “Allow me to introduce myself, I am Jamie, the new world’s most powerful mage with 45 spikes and 80minutes” I said grinning menacingly at the end as the mages gasped taking a few steps back. “You’re lying” the large brute shouted sending a multitude of stone spikes at me whilst pulling out his wand. Catching each spike with my telekinesis I dropped them to the floor as I he shot a few bright red spells at me, I couldn’t hear him say what they were but all I knew was that they passed through my force field easily and hurt like hell, my anger was building as I healed myself back up my rage starting to overwhelm me as I got back to my feet my eyes ablaze above me head as I watching the large man stop in his tracks “Consider me the hulk, because you won’t like me when I’m mad” I shouted at him my whole body bursting into one huge flame growing hotter and hotter as the flame when from orange to red and then into just a bright white fire. Walking to the man I swung my arms in circle sending out my flames into a large fiery tornado as I quickly put a force field around the students. The muscled man stepped forward, to proud to be shown up by a kid as he sent another rock spike at me, watching the spike get closer it began to heat up as I melted it before it even touched me. “You’re no match for me” I roared shooting fireballs at the mages that were trying to surround me watching as they set on fire, trying to rip the clothes from their body to escape the burning. Out of nowhere 3 mages blasted me with water as the put out my flames trying to drown me in a large sphere of water, I made a force field around myself expanding it exploding the water sphere as I broke the field allowing air to fill me lungs again. Looking at the angry man I used my telekinesis to pull him down to the ground with a thud, his head smacking against the stone floor as he lay groggy from the hit. Standing up I set out a large energy attack pushing all the dark mages back against the wall with a thud except for the man that lay on the floor, walking up to him I knelt down behind the groggy man, placing my hand on his head as I looked around “I figured, Every talent is give and take, I can give electricity our and I can draw electricity in... Life is the only talent that is just give so either their not teaching us something or this talent is flawed” I said trying to draw in energy from my surroundings as I looked at the man as he started wriggling, he body getting smaller as I felt his energy feed into me. After 2minutes Jin was just a skin covered skeleton as I had absorbed everything, not just his life force but I even felt his extra mage power, adding to mine as my own large amount of power swallowed his whole converting it into more power for me. Feeling his extra power, I realised how deadly this was and was probably the reason they didn’t teach it, but I wasn’t going to let anybody know I had his power. Standing up I looked at the other mages who just stared in shock at was once a man they feared, “Anybody else want to piss me off” I shouted at them, their face’s instantly going as white as a ghost; lips trembled in fear of me. “You killed my strongest asset” The thin man said standing up off his throne as he looked down at me “Consider it your one and only warning, do not mess with me or my school” I said firmly walked backwards to the group of children from my school as he watched me “I will be seeing you again, mark my words” he replied angrily as I teleported the force field of students and myself back into the school courtyard. “What happened to you?” Professor Kroll asked startled as we appeared only meters away from them. “I need to go rest, they will fill you in” I said teleporting directly into my room as I lay in bed shocked that I actually took a life, he was rude and a bully but he didn’t really deserve to die. “I took a life” I muttered to myself staring into space. Over the next week, my mood didn’t increase I was vacant and hollow during classes, I said little during meals and I struggled to stay enthusiastic when studying with Jess. Sitting in the main hall for dinner, brad had began his torment over me, taken advantage of my lack of focus, as he often tripped me up and knocked me off my seat as I did nothing to retaliate but just take the hits, calmly sitting back down to carry on my meal. “Come with me” Professor Kroll said pulling me from my seat. I didn’t even notice his arrival next to me, though I said nothing and just stood up quickly walking with him as he dragged me into our Fire lesson classroom. “What is up with you” he asked watching me, my eyes flicking between different spots on the floor as my head was a jumbled mess “I killed somebody” I said quietly to myself not moving from my spot as Professor Kroll lifted my head “You were defending your fellow students, you have no reason to feel bad” he said trying to lift me spirits as I lifted my head glaring at him “I do, defending was when I pushed him back into the wall, I lifted him up and I willingly drained him of his life, I didn’t even use fire being something I was competent at, I did something brand new. I made a show of his death” I shouted at Professor Kroll fear filling his face as my eyes turned into flames raising from the sockets as my anger and rage over flowed. “Perhaps, but you protected your classmates, if he was still alive some of them may not be” Professor Kroll said back to me trying to place his hand on my shoulder in hopes to comfort me. “Look, you did what you had to do, you did what I taught you to intimidate and install fear into your opponents, granted you didn’t use fire for his death, but you got the same result. You made yourself feared and superior to your kidnappers” Professor Kroll said firmly standing behind his desk filing through some paper work. “I suggest you go to your room and rest, come to terms with the fact that you did the right thing and the whole school is thankful for it” he added just as firmly watching me walk out of his classroom. “You and me are going to have such a fun time going out, just think of all the great times you will have by my side” Brad said cockily sliding along the bench getting close to Jess as all the girls looked disgusted at the slimy bully. “Can you not take a hint, no means no” Jess shouted pushed him back off the table causing everybody to laugh at him. “Nobody says no to me, I’ll make you suffer. Starting with your little saviour, you know the saying, kick them while their down” Brad said grinning walking back to his seat. “Ignore him, Jamie can handle himself” Betty said looking at Jess who’s looked to be on the brink of tears, her lip quivering as her eyes reddened. Laying on my bed, Prince coiled around my leg and chest hugging my tightly as we talked deep into the evening, Tommy and Danny came about around 8pm as they didn’t say much to me but just got into bed as I continued my mental conversation with Prince. Waking up in the morning, I felt slightly better I actually got some sleep last night which was a first this week. Getting dressed I quickly made my way down to the main hall picking up an apple and some cereal as I floated it over to my seat, “Jamie...” Jess said slightly turning before being pulled back by her friends “Don’t, leave him be” Betty said whilst I listened feeling guilty for my attitude this week. Finishing my cereal I picked up my apple teleporting out the room as I landed outside the castle, sitting on the roof of the docking building I stared out to the lake and the sea, using force fields to block the wind and my own body warmth to stay warm. Looking up at the castle I spotted the highest point of the spire as I quickly teleported up there to get a much wider view of the land. My force field now a sphere protecting me from the wind and cold as I stared off, not really thinking just staring, I sat on the small metal ring that rested about 2 meters from the peak of the spire, staring out I could only see the green hills and crumbling cliffs and then vast open sea behind me, nothing more nothing less. For the entire of my morning fire class I focused on my lessons, trying to catch up on anything I may have missed while spaced out, although I head the gap between me and the class had shortened slightly but not enough for me to be concern. I sat next to Danny and Tommy today, they had quickly became best mates and I felt bad for ignoring them for the entire week “Ok Class, now I want you to work in three’s, your task... To create 3 parts to your fire and make them seamless sync up your fires and stay in tune, using multiple people in your fires can make them stronger as you focusing on a smaller amount and can thus make it hotter” Professor Kroll said happily as we began “What we making?” I asked Tommy with a smile as he grinned “Let’s make a stag, Jamie you take the head and neck, Danny you take the front legs and half the chest whilst I take the back legs and other half of the body” he said confidently as we agreed with a nod. Creating the feet first I watched as the body formed leading to my part where I grew a neck from the body and a head and a very large intricate antler design. With the shape done we added the detail as although it was made of fire, it looked rather life like, everything in proportion and well made as the stag earned us a round of applause from the class. During her lunch break Summer quietly slipped away from the class, walking down the corridor she slips down a flight of stairs into a storage level of the school, filled with dusty boxes and junk. Reaching into her pocket she pulled out what could only be described as a hand held mirror, small of oval with a silver engraved frame and handle. It was stunning beautiful to look at as Summer checked her reflection in the mirror. Pulling out her wand and holding it to the mirror Summer whispered “Emporio agmantus” in the softest voice she could, the mirror began to fog up, after a few seconds of being completely unreflective the fog slowly began to disappear as the mirror no longer showed her reflection but the inside of another room. “Jamie has gone back to his original self, I have missed my opening” Summer said nervously as a older woman’s face appeared in the mirror as she walked up to the glass. “You disappoint me summer, I want it done by the time the year ends” the woman said rather angrily watching Summer through her mirror “Yes mother” replied Summer sounding confident as she cast the spell again returning the mirror back to its original reflective surface. “Hey Jess, I’m sorry I was so distant this week, would you like to study together” I practiced to myself walking down the corridor as I rounded the corning walking straight into Brad he walked round the corner at the same time “Watch it” I said annoyed holding my forehead in pain as I quickly walked past Brad who had fell onto the floor. “Stick to the plan Brad, you will get him in the end” mark said holding brad back as he tried to storm after me. “Ok your right, when will it be ready” Brad said calming himself down as he and his sidekicks walked along the corridor “My brother has ordered it in, and we can pick it up from Bacra in a few weeks” Mark said happily as they continued to the main hall. “Hey girls, can I borrow you for a second” I asked walking up to Becky and Rosie as they sat with their boyfriends on a bench “What’s up?” Becky asked not moving as I sighed “It’s rather secret and could get me in trouble, so I only want to practice on people I can trust” I said as they grinned immediately jumping from the seats with their boyfriends following me into an empty class room. “Ok then what’s the big secret” Rosie asked sitting on a desk as I created a force field around us to block out the sound “Well you remember when I drained that man” I said as they nodded “That was hardcore” Becky said happily looking at me “Well, I absorbed all he energy including his mage power” I said as they gasped “So you have your power plus his?” Rosie said with her jaw touching her chin “Yes, I have been measuring what has happened to the power and I have concluded that because I have more power than him, my power is converting his into a power I can use, so I was and although I probably have converted about half of it now, I figured I could give the rest to you, to make your stronger” I said smiling watching them as they gleamed a huge smile hugging me “It’s only going to be about 3 spikes each, but if I ever have to drain another mage I will make you stronger” I said calmly as I place my hand on their foreheads pushing the new power into them whilst they gasped feeling it inside their head. “It feels weird” Becky said making me chuckle “I figured we all have our own power tailored to us, that power is there but it’s not ours, when it’s like this your power is trying to merge it and convert it into usable power for you, it will take about a week for it all to be converted but hopefully I just gave you more power” I said causing them to thank me giving me a massive hug. “Have you told Jess about this?” Rosie asked as I shook my head “Jess is already quite powerful, you need it more. Plus we three are the only people that know about this and I want it to stay that way” I said firmly watching them nod giving me another hug “Can we not tell our parents?” Becky asked slightly sad as I shook my head “You can after we have left here, but not yet and I mean left after our final year, not in half term” I said hearing them giggle and saying they understood. “Anyway, how’s having a boyfriend” I asked removing the force field walking us outside where they were waiting patiently, “Boyfriends are great, always kind and helpful, do you have a girlfriend yet?” Rosie asked stepping into the corridor as it was obvious that their boyfriends heard her “Not yet, I feel nervous about dating” I said as they laughed letting go of me to hold the hands of their boyfriends “Well, see you later Jamie” Becky said smiling as the four of them sat back down on the bench talking. “What did Jamie want?” Jack asked looking at his girlfriend Rosie “Just some advice on a secret project, if he pulls it off, it’s going to be awesome” Rosie said calmly as Becky chuckled “Anyway, we can’t tell you because then it wouldn’t be a secret project” Becky added as the boys groaned clearly intrigued. Teleporting into the library I spotted Jess sitting on her usual study table however this time she wasn’t alone, sitting down with her was Betty and Joanna all of them chatting and giggling whilst studying, walking out the library I casually strolled along the corridor aimless watching the students walk by, being swept up by the movement of the of the students I end up in the main hall. Picking up some food I spotting Danny and Tommy sitting on the table as I teleported next to them at the table. “Hey Jamie, we were just talking about what to doing during half term” Tommy said with a grin looking at me, his long brown hair going straight down as he had it tied behind his head. “Oh I see you learnt the hair growth spell?” I said looking at his hair causing him to laugh “Yeah, I was sick of being short, so I grew it out” he said to me with a smile “It’s cool, I’m jealous, so where are you going for half term?” I asked looking at them both as they shrugged at me. “Probably go home to see my parents, but if you want to meet up in Bacra?” Danny offered as we all grinned “Sure, we could go check out that Green Street, I heard it’s got loads of cool shops” I added watching their smiles widen as they had obviously heard of the street. For most the afternoon we sat at that table talking and laughing, with none of us having classes till about 3 pm we just relaxed and enjoyed our extended break. ******************This is only the first part of the story, I have decided it's easy to post in chapters instead of writing in chapters.
