SWEETEST SURRENDER By Wojo Martin This is a simple love story between a young father and the beautiful young woman who helps coach his daughter’s soccer team. I often write “sex stories,” but I am also a big sappy romantic at heart. This tale is designed to appeal to those whose fantasies lie along the gentler side of submission. The story features “straight sex” between two adults. I was sitting at the bar with Danielle Teague. Most of the guys around town would have loved to trade places with me, even though Dani and I weren’t actually on a date. With her effortless charm and girl-next-door physical allure, Dani was pleasant company in any situation. At the moment however, I was pretty damned uncomfortable, so I grabbed the pitcher and stalled by pouring myself another beer. Dani had just accused me of something of which I was undoubtedly guilty. I had no defense. I used the pause to try and compose a response. “H-n-n-h,” was the best I could muster. “I’m not saying it’s weird, Jake. I think it’s kind of cute.” She held out her glass and I refilled it. “Probably just means you’re a soft-hearted romantic.” “Well, I guess I just never really thought of it that way.” “It’s perfectly normal. My dad was the same way with me and with the other girls on my teams.” “Well, I guess you turned out alright.” “Better than alright, I hope.” She smiled that damned easy smile. “Lot better than alright,” I admitted. “So, you don’t think anybody else thinks it’s weird either?” “Of course not,” she said with a little laugh. “Lots of grown men flirt with little girls.” “I suppose you’re right. I just don’t want to be the creepy coach the girls talk about when they get older.” “They’ll always remember you as the sweet coach they had crushes on.” I raised an eyebrow a little bit at this remark. “I promise, Jake. They love you now and they will love you later.” I couldn’t find a way to be upset with that. So, I decided that Dani was probably right. She usually was. Hell, Dani was the brains of the coaching staff. I didn’t know a blessed thing about soccer. My linebacker coach had neglected to teach me a damned thing about it. But the league didn’t want to let a 21-year-old coach a team by herself. A few years back, a younger girl had shown up drunk to coach a game and her equally drunk boyfriend had gotten into a fist fight with the ref when her team lost. They said the parents now felt a lot more comfortable with another parent as head coach. So, I got drafted to take charge of my daughter’s U-8 girls’ soccer team with Dani nominally as the assistant. Dani, who had played soccer in college until she got called home to help with the family business when her dad had suddenly passed away, ran the practices for the Tiny Tigers and then stood beside me during games and whispered tips and strategies in my ear. My job was to repeat them loudly and then clap my big hands in encouragement. It was a farce that somehow worked like a charm. There was serious talk of me getting the league’s Coach of the Year award. What I really did was fall completely in love with the Tiny Tigers, a group of the most energetic but hopelessly silly seven-year-olds to ever kick a ball around a pitch. I mostly bandaged their scraped knees while passing out hugs and high fives. Every girl had their own little nickname from me, and I teased them and laughed with them at every possible moment. At the end of each practice I would line them up, and one at a time I would let them each know that they were “wonderful, smart and beautiful.” Dani had pointed out that while that was encouragement, it was also a further example of my innocent flirtation. Her only concern was about my daughter, Emily. “Emily isn’t really used to the idea of sharing you. Hell, you’ve been divorced since she was two, Jake. She doesn’t even remember sharing you with her mom. She has to share Jackie with Gary now, but whenever she’s been with you, she has had one hundred percent of your attention.” “So, what do I do?” “Sneak her a few extra hugs during games and practice, and on the next night she goes home with you instead of Jackie, make sure she has some extra time with you. Let her stay up late, cuddle on the couch and watch a movie. She just needs to know that she is your one and only baby girl.” “Thanks, Dani. You’re really something. So, when’s Bobby getting here? He usually meets you out after the games.” Dani winced slightly. It didn’t really make sense, but she almost looked guilty. “Bobby and I broke up.” “Shit, Dani. I’m sorry.” “Well, it turns out I wasn’t HIS one and only baby girl.” “WHAT? What a fucking idiot… You’re spectacular!” “Thanks, Jake.” She put her slender hand on my forearm. “I kind of needed to hear that right now.” “Well, it’s like I tell the girls. You’re wonderful, smart, and beautiful.” “High five and a hug?” she asked. “Anytime, my friend.” I gave her a high five and a hug. As I leaned into her I could smell the intoxicating shampoo in her light brown hair, and notice the slight pressure of her bust against my chest. That wasn’t part of the equation with the Tiny Tigers. For a moment, I had a stupid romantic thought, but I chased it away. This girl wasn’t a model, but she was a cutie. She had already had a few extra boys her own age chasing her even when she was with Bobby. Once word got out that she was back on the market, her phone probably wouldn’t stop ringing. We pulled out of the hug and smiled at one another. “Jake?” “Yes, Dani?” “Um… never mind,” she said. She brushed her pretty brown hair back over her ear and then took a sip of her beer. This was about the third time in recent weeks she had started to ask me something and not followed through. I figured it was probably something about my break-up with Jackie. My ex and I got along so well that lots of people wondered why we had ever split up. We had been best friends who had tried a romantic relationship and accidentally ended up as parents. The quick wedding came before Jackie had even begun showing her baby bump. A few years later, she met the love of her life. She didn’t pursue it at first, but once I saw the way she looked at Gary, I realized I was too fond of Jackie to try to keep her from going after him. It wasn’t quite that simple and painless, but the divorce had been as amicable as it could be. Little Emily was our world, and we weren’t going to have a relationship that would make her life any more difficult than it had to be. I guessed Dani’s unasked questions came about because she was just a little shy about prying. How many twenty-one-year-old girls had divorced friends? Most folks my age knew at least a few. It was around this time of night that her beau usually swept her away from me. They’d shoot pool or throw darts for a while before heading for home. I’d hang out for a bit, talking to old friends and reliving the glory days. I was only thirty, but after a marriage and a divorce and seven years of fatherhood, high school seemed a lifetime ago. Dani and I were lost for a bit, but I realized that she was an active kind of girl and wanted to have something to do to keep her busy. Once again my brain wandered to something I would have loved to do with this pretty girl, but she was in the prime of her young single life, and I imagined the last thing she would have ever wanted to do was hook up with a divorced father. So, I kept her active by challenging her to some Skee-ball. This wasn’t her normal choice of bar games but was one of my old favorites, so I actually beat her at something. It was the last time all night. She shot my lights out on the pool table and the dartboard. We agreed to go out to the courtyard and toss some bags. Neither one of us played this much, so it seemed like it would be pretty even. She beat the tar out of me. I was far bigger and stronger, but Dani was a natural athlete. She was going to beat me at anything that was a fair contest of hand-eye coordination. After a few games and a few beers, she had to run inside to use the ladies’ room. I couldn’t help but let my eyes follow her as she walked away. Her tight tan shorts didn’t betray any panty-lines, and I realized for the first time that she had worn a thong tonight. I had checked her backside out on a few occasions, and this was the first time she hadn’t been wearing something more conservative. Actually, come to think of it, this was the tightest pair of shorts I had ever had the fortune to see her wear. “Hate to see her go, but you love to watch her walk away, hey, Jake?” a familiar voice asked from behind. I turned around to see a tall thin young man in a softball uniform. Bobby was passing through the courtyard on his way into the bar. It was really no surprise he’d be there. Varsity Blues was the most popular sports bar in town, and Bobby had been a jock in high school as well. I didn’t hate Bobby, even if I had been a little jealous of his good fortune. He was actually a decent kid most of the time. “What the hell were you thinking, Bob?” “Not much at the time of the infraction,” he said thoughtfully, “but way too much in the weeks before it.” “Lost me, buddy. But that’s really not that hard to do. I’m not exactly known as a deep-thinker.” “I spent the last few weeks before we broke up obsessing over the idea that she might be in love with somebody else but was just too much of a good girl to go out and do anything about it.” “Been there, my friend. Who is the lucky bastard?” “Dang, Jake. You really aren’t much of a deep-thinker, are ya?” Bobby clapped me on the shoulder and joined his buddies. He headed inside before I could press for an explanation. He ran into Dani on her way back out. They had a short conversation. It wasn’t heated, but there was a little bit of intensity to it. Dani looked down like she was embarrassed. What the hell was happening there? Bobby was the one who had strayed. He shook his head, and then gave her a hug and picked up her chin. For a moment I thought that he was going to kiss her. Well, maybe they worked things out. They had been a cute couple. He said something, and she nodded. They seemed to part on good terms. Dani crossed the courtyard toward me. She wasn’t crying, but there was definitely some moisture along her bottom eyelids as she approached. I didn’t like to see her big blue eyes misty, but her brave smile made me admire her even more. “Jake, Bobby and I just settled on custody of the bar.” I gave her what I hoped wasn’t too confused a look. “We’re both ready to move on but neither of us wants to watch the other one as they do it.” “Makes sense.” “For the time being, he’s gonna have Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday.” “It’s Tuesday, kiddo.” “I know.” “But we always come here on Tuesdays that I don’t have Emily.” “And his softball team has been coming here on Tuesdays for years. He’s got the prior claim.” “So, you’re just headed home, then?” “I guess,” she said sadly. “Unless you wanna go someplace else?” I asked, remembering that going home alone at a respectable hour is pretty depressing for a twenty-one-year-old. “Jake. I have a favor to ask you. My sister and my bestie went to a concert in the city. I couldn’t go because of the game.” “And..?” “I’m kind of in a mood to get crazy, but I need somebody to watch my back. I get pretty stupid when I’m shit-faced drunk.” “Consider your back watched. Where you wanna go?” “Weezers,” she said. “That’s a drinking bar, alright.” “My cousin tends bar there. He’ll cut us a break on the price of drinks; he might even give us drinks for free if the boss isn’t around.” “So, shit-faced us it is, then,” I said with a laugh. “Don’t worry; I’ll hold your hair when you puke.” “You’re a classy guy, Jake.” There was that damned easy smile again. Dani introduced me to her cousin, Danny. Turns out they were both named after their grandpa, Daniel Teague. Danny the younger was a big kid, and after I thought about the name, I remembered having seen Danny Teague score two TDs in a game for the local high school. It was a little more impressive when you considered that he played defensive tackle and had scored one TD by recovering a fumble he forced himself and one off of a punt he had blocked. I had been a pretty good football player. Danny had been a great one, but he wasn’t the college type, so he never played beyond high school. It turned out that Danny was happy to supply his pretty cousin with free drinks, so Dani made all of our bar-runs. After a little while, my cute friend started to warm up and cut loose. About an hour after she got there, she had Danny crank up the jukebox and she started dancing around, drawing lots of lecherous stares from the hard-drinking regulars. She wasn’t leading them on, though. She kept her focus on me. I finally got off my ass and started dancing too. I didn’t have any great moves, but I had a decent sense of rhythm, and I didn’t feel like I was totally embarrassing myself. A few times, she got a little wobbly and fell into my arms, giggling. I laughed as well, but it felt really good to have the young lass in my embrace. I was having more fun than I had in a long time. Eventually, it became time for my bathroom run, but when I got to the door it was locked, and the sounds of someone losing their lunch came from inside the tiny room. I turned back, figuring I could wait. I noticed that Dani was at the bar again, getting another vodka gimlet. I watched and noticed that Danny filled her glass with water and a splash of lime. The little minx wasn’t drinking at all. What was she playing at? I headed back to the table; she brought me my Jim Beam and coke and took a drink from her glass. I gave her kind of a sideways look, and she responded in a way I didn’t expect at all. She threw her arms around my neck and kissed me. Then, she had a sudden look of panic on her face. She decided to play that the kiss was a drunken impulse. “Sorry, Jake, but yer kinda cute,” she slurred. I pulled her arms from my neck and sat her back on her stool. “I don’t know what you’re up to, Dani, but I don’t like getting played.” This was not the response she had expected either. “I’m sorry, Jake,” she said, suddenly sober. “I can explain.” I should have listened, but I actually HAD been drinking for the entire evening. I was a fun drunk, but like most guys a dozen drinks in, I could get a little owly when somebody messed with me. “Save it. I’m going home. Alone.” I walked out of Weezer’s and left that pretty girl in that wild bar all by herself. It took me about thirty seconds outside to realize that we were actually pretty good friends, and I should have at least let her explain herself. By the time I had taken a whizz in the alley outside the bar, I had decided to head back in and talk to my friend. There were already two guys standing by her table, and I could tell they were annoying her. “Dani, if you want to explain, let’s go outside and talk,” I said as I walked between the two guys and interrupted their pitch to her. “Hey, asshole,” one of them said. “We were talking to the lady that YOU just rudely walked out on.” “Really?” I said, pretending that I gave a shit what he thought. Then I gave a more honest response. “Fuck off, dickwad.” “Let’s go, Jake,” Dani said, trying to sneak the two of us out of harm’s way as quickly as possible. We got out the door and were walking away when I heard a gruff voice behind us. “Hey, fucknuts, where the hell you think you’re going?” “Ignore him, please, Jake.” She grabbed my arm and pleaded with her eyes. I ignored the guy and kept walking, keeping an ear open for footsteps approaching from behind us. That’s when I got hit square in the back of the neck with a three-quarters-full can of beer. Dani let me go. She knew the “ignoring him” part of the night was over. We turned around. There were three of them now. Oh, great. I was going to get my ass royally kicked. The guy I’d had words with charged in, and I set myself to throw a punch. I missed completely, but thankfully his aim wasn’t much better. He grazed me above the right eye as he overran me. He tried to reverse his direction. He was as drunk as I was, and it took him a second. Dani stuck her foot out and he staggered as she tripped him up. My second punch had been aimed for his eye, but caught him flush on the jaw, and he went down. I turned to find the other two and prepared for the beating I was sure to take at their hands. I found instead that one was already unconscious on the ground. The other had his face pressed to the hood of a parked car. Danny had seen the trio head out after his favorite cousin, and he had followed them. The big kid yanked back on the guy’s t-shirt and scooped his legs out from under him. He went down hard on the sidewalk and lay there groaning. Dani moved toward her cousin. “Get out of here!” Danny said quickly. “I think somebody already called the cops.” We hustled toward my car. “Keys,” Dani said as we approached it. “What?” “I’m sobered up. There are cops on the way. You shouldn’t be driving.” I gave her the keys; she was right about that part. “I am so sorry, Jake.” I just grunted at that. We got in the car, and I sat in the passenger seat, fuming at her deception. I was fueled by alcohol and post-fight adrenaline. I also had two knuckles now sitting on the back of my hand instead of in their normal position. “Jake, say something.” “I don’t want to. I might yell at you, and you’re one of my favorite people.” “Still?” “Probably.” She drove me back to my house in silence. When we got home, she gave me my keys. Then, she started to follow me inside. “No, Dani. I don’t know what’s going on, but we need to cool off before we talk about it.” “Please, Jake. Your hand is a mess, and you’re bleeding a little above your eye.” I hadn’t realized that; the blood had run away from the eye and I just thought I was sweating from my hairline or that the can of beer I’d been hit with had splashed onto my face. “At least let me try and clean up a little of my mess.” I let her in without saying a word. I sat at the kitchen table while she got me ice for the hand and cleaned the blood away from what turned out to not be much of a cut. She put a little bandage on it. “You won’t need stitches, at least,” she said, trying to smile a little. I just gave her a stare. “Is your hand numb from the ice?” she asked. I still didn’t speak, but nodded. “Good.” She gently took my hand and looked me deep in the eyes. I didn’t even see her other hand sneak up. She pinned my wrist to the table and ground the heel of her hand onto the back of my injured hand. I finally spoke at that. “What the fuck, Dani?” She took the hand and quickly pressed it to her lips and released it as I pulled away. I looked at my hand. It was still swollen, but the knuckles were back in place. After a flash of pain at the instant she had repositioned the knuckles, the hand actually felt a little better. “Where’d you learn that?” “Women’s soccer is a much meaner game than most folks realize, and we didn’t sit out of practice or a game with little owies,” she said. “Can I get you a drink or anything? I really need to talk to you.” “No. I’m drunk enough. Dani, I hate to sound like an old man, but I have a kid, and I own a business. Shit like you pulled is gonna end up in a fight as often as not at a place like Weezer’s, and I can’t really afford to go to jail.” “I know. It was God-awful stupid, and I never meant to cause you any trouble.” “Girl, a sweet little ass like yours is always gonna cause trouble when fellas think you’re getting drunk and giving it away.” “I’m sorry, Jake. And thanks, for the sweet little ass thing.” “I shouldn’t have said that. I’m drunk.” “Look I can explain, but I could really use a drink. Mind if I—“ “Sure, water is in the sink and the lime juice is in the cupboard to the right.” She winced at that shot, but didn’t make a crack back. She got herself a glass and filled it most of the way with vodka and ice before she splashed a little lime on top. “I talk too much when I get drunk,” she said. “But maybe talking to you is what I really need to do.” She sat down next to me and took a pretty good pull on the drink before she started. “I should have never allowed myself to screw up and kiss you. That came out wrong. I meant, I should have never kissed you in that situation.” She took another drink. “After the stuff with Bobby, I wanted to cut loose and get crazy, but I actually do REALLY stupid stuff when I get trashed. So, I just pretended to be drunk so I could act like a fool and you wouldn’t think any less of me.” “So, why drag me along and try to fool me?” “Well, I kind of didn’t want you to leave, and sometimes I get sort of confused around you. I wanted to have a fun time with you, but not lose control. We were having fun, right?” “Yes. I was having fun. You were kind of adorable.” “So were you, Jake. You kind of always are.” “So, that was your whole plan. Pretend to get drunk. Weird, but okay, I guess. So then why try to make out with me?” “I never meant to do that. You just gave me that steamy look, and I couldn’t help it.” “It wasn’t a steamy look. I was mad at you.” “I see that now, but at the moment it happened, I kind of misread it.” I hadn’t processed this enough to have a response. She took that as me being too angry to talk. “You’re beautiful when you’re angry.” Her attempt at humor fell flat. She looked down in shame and then took a third big swig. She had emptied the glass. “Kiddo, there was about three shots in that drink and you barely even weigh a buck-twenty.” “Yep,” she said, and got up to mix herself another. She paused for a moment and fought off a bout of lightheadedness. She then continued on to the cupboard and poured another stiff glass of vodka. She returned to the table and took a drink before continuing. “Hopefully, I’m gonna have enough guts to get through this, now. I need to tell you something...” “Me?” I asked, finally piecing it together. “Bobby said he thought you were into someone else when you were still with him. Is it me?” “Jake, I have a huge crush on you. I mean, like a silly junior high crush, but at the same time I have lots grown-up feelings mixed in. That’s why I get confused around you.” “Me?” I was still having trouble getting my head around that part, much less understanding her odd behavior this evening. “Hell yes, you, Jake.” “Well, damn.” I was almost always that clever with words. “Look, I know I made a huge mess of things tonight. And I am doing everything all bass-ackwards. Especially when… Jake, there was another problem between me and Bobby. He was frustrated because we went out for six months and never got beyond necking on the couch.” “You never…?” “Not with Bobby, or with anyone else. I mean I have in the past, but not for well over a year, now. And I came on to you like I was open for business, and I’m not like that. So, not only did I cause you all that trouble, I probably teased you—and I never, ever meant to do that.” “You’re a complicated woman, Dani.” “I am, and then again, I’m not.” “Well, that clears things up. Glad we had this talk.” “I’m not trying to be coy. It’s just not easy for me to talk about. Even a couple of these vodkas probably won’t get me to spill all of it.” “So, you think Bobby cheated on you because you didn’t want to take things any further?” “No,” her words came a little slower now. I wasn’t sure if it was the vodka or the subject matter that slowed her down, probably a combination of the two. “Bobby’s not like that. He might have eventually broken up with me over it, but he wasn’t going to go behind my back and cheat on me because of it. He’s a decent guy. He was open about his frustration, but he was willing to wait.” “Well, you’re worth that.” “Thank you,” she said, gently letting her fingers touch my injured hand. Her speech was getting increasingly slurred, but still not as bad as it was when she was play-acting drunk. So, the effect was that I decided she was now actually dealing with a pretty good buzz. “Bobby wasn’t lying to you. He cheated because he was hurt that I had fallen for someone else. That upset him way more than the other th-thing. I only told you that because if you can ever forgive me, I’d like to start over. And if we start over, that means that it is probably going to take a long time before we… get horiz-zontal.” She took another drink. “That’s what I’ve been trying to get the guts to tell you.” “Wow.” I decided to follow that with something clever. “Wow,” I repeated. It was the best I could come up with. “Good ‘wow’?” she said, a hopeful look in her eyes. “Dani, I can ALMOST guarantee you that when this conversation is over I will ask you out. But given that you’ve now consumed nearly five shots of vodka, and I may not get you talking like this for a while, I have to ask. Why?” “Why you?” “Well, that can wait for the date. I’m dying to know that in some ways, but what I guess I’m getting at is why does a gorgeous girl who says she used to be sexually active suddenly stop?” “Oh that.” She finished off the second glass. “Okay, I owe you something after all of this tonight. Here goes; I had a very intense experience that changed the way I looked at sex.” “I had one of those once. The change came about ten seconds after Jackie said, ‘I think I’m pregnant!’” “Well, mine wasn’t quite as scary—or wonderful—as that. I met someone that I had sex with, and it was wonderful, but very different. And after that, I looked at th-things differently.” “That isn’t exactly an answer that clears away all the confusion.” “Oh, Jake.” She started to stand. I think she was going to move behind me for some reason, but her legs were unsteady, and she sat back down. She put her other hand out and asked for my good hand. I gave it, and she pressed it to her lips several times. It was—invigorating. “I won’t tell you all of it, but I’ll tell you the part that will either be the deal-breaker or maybe give you pretty v-vivid dreams tonight.” “Oh, Dani.” I couldn’t help but laugh. “Those I’m having anyway.” “Maybe not quite as vivid as they will be now. The person I had the experience with—was one of my teammates on the soccer team.” “Okay, you’re right. That’s gonna spice up Dreamland tonight!” She laughed and seemed comfortable with the slightly naughty direction the conversation was taking. “I know you boys like girl-girl stories. Well, I learned a lot of th-things from the brief aff-fair. I’ll tell you all but one tonight. First, I learned I’m not the only girl with a really dirty mind. Second, sex with a girl can be great. Third, I’m not into girls in the long run. Boys are my th-thing.” “Good news, I guess. But what turned you off sex then?” “Shit, Jake,” she slurred quite heavily as the alcohol started to really sink in. “I’m more into sex than I e-ever was before. I’m just only going to do it with someone I am REALLY in love with. Why ex-zactly that is, you don’t get to know yet.” “Okay. I guess I’ve made you tell me enough, and you sure have me interested enough to pursue this in order to find out.” She threw her arms around my neck. Her generous bust did its magic against my chest again. “Oh, Jake. Ask me out again tomorrow so that I’m sure to remember, it really happened, okay?” “Okay.” “Oh, and Jake, would it off-fend you horribly if I passed out on your couch in the next th-thirty seconds or so?” “Be my guest.” Dani rose unsteadily, started toward the couch and suddenly stopped. I raced past her and opened the bathroom door, sensing what was about to come. So, in the end, I did wind up holding her hair. I’ve had nights with girls end up better, but I’ve had them end up worse, too. I knew my morning work schedule was light for the next day. I called and left my assistant a message that I was “working at home” for the morning and switched off the alarm. By the time I woke up, the effects of the alcohol and the blow to the head seemed to have cleared my system. My right hand was discolored and still somewhat swollen, but it wasn’t as bad as I had feared it was going to be. I walked out to find that Dani had not only risen before me but had put a pot of coffee on and had beaten me to the shower. She emerged from the shower in only Emily's Dora the Explorer beach towel. Hell, yes, that image got instantly filed away in the memory banks. “Oh, shit!” she said as she saw my startled expression at her in the compromising outfit. “I didn’t know you were up yet. I would have gotten dressed before I came out.” “It’s alright, Dani.” “No, it’s not. You’re going to think I’m the biggest tease in town.” “I don’t think that.” Really, I didn’t. I had managed a few clear thoughts between the time I hit the rack and the time I actually fell asleep. None of the things Dani had done had made her life any easier. She was actually just having a rough time figuring out how to approach the shift in the nature of our relationship. “You want a clean shirt or anything?” “If you don’t mind.” “Raid my dresser. That coffee smells good, but I don’t. I have to grab a shower.” Dani started toward me, I think she was going to hug me and tell me I didn’t smell that bad. It would have been her style. But she realized that she was wearing nothing but Dora. She turned beet red and headed in to get a shirt. Now that I didn’t feel like I was getting played, her missteps were becoming adorable. I emerged from the shower and felt like a new man. I threw my sweat pants and t-shirt back on and walked out into the living room. Dani was sitting on the couch, wearing one of my old football t-shirts from my high school days. To me, those old T’s were very intimate. They were my sloppy clothes, no one ever saw me in them anymore—well Emily on the mornings I had her. But I’m sure to Dani it was just the smallest thing she could find in the dresser. Of all the things she could have chosen to wear, this was the one that turned me on the most. Again, not her intention. She was deep in thought. She looked up at me with a very serious expression on her face. “Jake?” “Yes?” “I want to make sure I remember things correctly. I-um-told you about Stephanie last night?” “Not by name, and you didn’t tell me what she did that changed your world. You did tell me that you had definitely decided on boys and that you’d been—um—chaste for the past year or more.” She nodded and put on a brave smile. “And did you ask me out?” “You know what? I don’t think I ever actually did.” Her face fell a little. “I told you I was going to ask you, but I never did.” She brightened a little at this, and then looked at me in anticipation. I grinned. I had her sitting on the edge of the couch waiting, and now I was being the tease. “Say, Dani,” I said at last, “Would you like to go out for dinner tomorrow night?” “You know what, Jake? I would like that.” “We’re off to a good start, aren’t we?” I said, remembering that she had expressed a hope for a new start. “Yes,” she said. “I think we got off to a good start… in the end.” She bounced up from the couch and kissed me on the cheek. “I have to go, Jake. Call me later and give me the details, okay?” “I’ll do that.” Then, she was gone. She was a dream, albeit a slightly strange one. Of course, she had to come back inside thirty seconds after her clean exit and ask for a ride back to her car. The next night at dinner we had a wonderful time. For once, everything was normal. We talked and laughed and reveled in the envious stares we got from the other couples at the restaurant. A couple on a first date has a special glow about them if things are going well. I had chosen a nice place a ways out of town. We were both okay if we didn’t run into other parents from the Tiny Tigers or even any of our friends. Our budding romance should have started out this way, and we both realized it. Alone, we were becoming comfortable with one another. Dani didn’t hide her crush on me, and I think that she could tell that I was quite smitten as well. The flirtation between us was sweet and innocent. Neither of us really felt like we had had a proper first kiss yet. We were content to have that experience out there ahead of us. Then, luck went our way for once. A party of four couples had noticed the vacant piano on the stage, and they talked to the owner and got permission for one of their number to play so that the other couples could dance. She was quite a good pianist, and she played old jazz standards so that her friends could slow dance and turn their little get-together into a romantic evening. Soon other couples took to the floor, and I caught Dani’s eyes looking toward the dancers. “I’m no Fred Astaire, Dani, but—“ “I’d love to,” she said, taking my hand and leading me to the floor. She didn’t lead once we got there. Two nights before, I had seen her shaking her ass like a chick on Spring Break. Now, she danced like she had been raised on Nat King Cole and Perry Como. I looked at her in amazement. “I was a phys ed major when I was at school. Ballroom dancing was a required course, and I kind of fell in love with the music and the whole ballroom scene.” “You are amazing,” I said. “You’re moving ten times better than I am, and you’re going backwards.” “In heels,” she added. Holding her in my arms, I felt like even I was classy and graceful. It was unusual for me, but I loved every second of it. I even managed to spin her a few times, and then got bold and went for the big dip. She laughed with delight when we pulled it off. There on that dance floor at the Lakeview Club, I looked into her eyes and saw everything I had ever wanted. Light brown hair over big blue eyes and that irresistibly effortless smile filled my gaze. Dani stopped dancing and returned my fond stare. I could tell what she wanted, but she let me take the lead once again. I kissed her tenderly, and she returned the kiss with equal tenderness. Our awkward beginning was overcome by the grace granted us by the music and the moment. “The stars in the heavens don’t shine as brightly as you, Dani,” I said. I said that. Still proud. “Oh, Jake. Oh, Jake,” she whispered and put her head on my shoulder. The music played on. I guess you could say that we danced, but what we really did was sway gently as the music washed over us and told us that we had found something more special than we had ever known. Six weeks and twelve secret dates later, Dani and I found ourselves on the sideline of our final game as coaches of the Tiny Tigers. Emily was going to be on the U-10 team next year, and they already had coaches in place. As the season played out, our bunch of silly little girls had gelled into a real team. As luck would have it, most of the other teams were filled with silly little girls and we had managed to reach the final game unbeaten. We now faced a much more talented unbeaten team in the Little Lightning. Their coach had them ready to play. That was obvious. They executed pre-game drills with precision and had determined looks on their adorable little faces. I knew that our girls couldn’t match them for talent or precision. So I decided to think outside the box. “Tiny Tigers, circle up,” I called about a minute before the game started. They came in and expected a traditional pre-game pep talk. They had noticed that their parents were more serious about this game, and the girls had started to think that maybe this game really was important. “Is everybody ready?” I asked. They all cheered because that was what they thought they should do. Besides, little girls like to yell. “Good, then there’s one more thing we have to do before a really big game,” I said with a very serious tone. “TICKLE FIGHT!” I yelled, grabbing Emily and tickling her ribs until she burst out giggling. Soon, the whole team fell about on the ground tickling each other and laughing and chasing. The parents were a bit shocked. I didn’t really care. Our girls were going to have fun in their last game of the year, no matter the records of the two teams. The Tiny Tigers took the field with skips in their steps and smiles on their faces. Dani stood beside me and didn’t say a word. She wasn’t angry or nervous about my approach. She was impressed. Our girls went out and played well, but the Little Lightning had earned their nickname. They struck fast and hard. Our girls gave what they had, but also seemed happy just to be playing. The Lightning went up 2-0 fairly early. “Put Brittany on Number 11,” Dani said softly. “Brittany, Emily, switch girls!” I yelled. Emily was faster than Brittany, but Britt was a rough and tumble little girl. Pretty soon, the Lightning’s top player was more involved in a friendly pushing and shoving match with Britt than the flow of the game. They collided while going for the ball and fell in a heap. I got ready to go check on Britt, but realized that the two girls weren’t lying on the ground and shaking because they were crying. They were giggling. It was still 2-0 at half, and the Lightning could not get their offense back in rhythm. Late in the game, the score was still 2-0 and the Lightning’s coach pulled her girls back and decided to slow down the game. Dani clutched my arm. “Their spacing is wrong. Jake! We might win this thing yet!” “What?” “Trust me,” she whispered. “Courtney then Blair.” “Hannah, to Courtney! Courtney—BLAIR!” Courtney kicked the ball to Blair, and Blair had a wide-open shot at the near corner. Her shot was true. 2-1. We got the ball back with very little time left. “Emily then Courtney and Brittany rush the goal,” Dani whispered urgently. “Hannah, to Em! Now to Court!” Courtney took the pass. “BRITT go to the net!” Courtney shot, but a defender deflected the ball. Brittany had the deflected ball hit her in the chest and fall in front of her. She ran at the goal and belted a kick through the hands of the goalie. 2-2. I turned to Dani. “You’re wonderful, smart and beautiful,” I said. She smiled, but the fire in her eyes betrayed that she had a plan to actually win the damned thing. Regulation ended in a tie, and league rules called for five minutes of sudden death play. The Lightning came out grim and determined, but they had been that way for a long time, and they were still only seven years old. They looked tired. My silly Tiny Tigers seemed fresh. We took control and got two shots off, but they were stopped. The Lightning got the ball to midfield, but Brittany got control of it. Dani and I could see she was going to take a long foolish shot with no hope of getting past the keeper. I was about to tell the rest of the girls to set up in defensive positions when Dani bypassed me for the first time all season. “BEES TO THE HIVE!” she shouted. It was the name of a drill we did in practice. The girls would rush the net en masse and just keep kicking the balls back as Dani and I rolled them out from the goal. The Tiny Tigers formed a swarm and attacked. A defender got to the ball before Brittany’s shot had even reached the keeper. But as she kicked it out, it hit Blair in the legs and bounced back toward the goal. There was a mad scramble and a flurry of kicks that kept hitting our girls and staying in front of the net. Our girls buzzed about like a swarm of bees and the Lightning seemed overwhelmed. A weak rebound off the post bounced slowly toward the keeper. She was moving to scoop it up and end the threat when Emily came flying wildly toward the ball. She dove face-first and struck the ball with the crown of her head as she was parallel to the ground. The ball found the corner of the net. It was over, and Dani had led our little lovelies to an improbable victory. There was a rush of parents onto the sideline and a pile of wonderful, smart and beautiful little girls in front of the goal. I ignored my well-wishers and rushed to Emily, scooping her up in my arms. “I am so happy for you, my baby girl!” I cried with joy. “DADDY!” she squealed, “Did we win?” I nodded and hugged her tight. Then she squealed, “Coach Dani!” I turned to see Dani at my shoulder. Without thinking, I gave the coach a little kiss. Emily giggled. I looked at Dani and froze. Dani didn’t know what to do, either. Suddenly, someone pulled Emily from my arms. It was Jackie. She smiled and laughed at me as Gary came up and wrapped the two of them in a bear hug. Dani and I were still frozen. “Well, you did it once,” Jackie said to me. “You might as well do it again!” I took Dani in my arms and gave her a big kiss, dipping her like we had done on the dance floor. She put her arms around me and whispered, “I love you, Jake.” “I love you, too, Dani Teague.” The little girls all giggled and laughed, A few of the parents applauded. I chased the other coach down and apologized for taking so long to find her and shake her hand. She was a great sport about it. She had won titles by the sackful, and knew how it was at the end of that last game. Dani and I then found the time to accept the congratulations from the parents and grandparents. We ended the night with the girls in a circle. We told them they did a great job and then lined them up. For the last time, I got to tell each of the Tiny Tigers that she was wonderful, smart and beautiful. Gary and Jackie sheepishly approached me after the ritual. “Jake, we know it’s your week with Em,” Gary said, “but my niece Katie is in town, and we were wondering if Emily could come by us a night early. They’re good friends. If it interferes with your celebration plans, we can wait.” I looked to where Emily was already playing with Katie. “Gary,” I said with a smile. “They aren’t friends. They’re cousins. Your family is Emily’s family now, too. I hope the girls have a great time tonight.” “I think you have your hands full, anyway,” Jackie added, looking to where Dani was talking to Courtney’s parents. “I’m happy for you, Jake. And by the way, most of the parents have been wondering when you two would see the obvious.” They left, laughing at me the whole while. As I approached Dani, I saw her shake hands with Courtney’s dad, the high school principal and athletic director. He nodded at me, then shook his head and punched me gently in the shoulder. “Lucky bastard,” he whispered and walked off. “That seemed like a big conversation,” I said as Dani and I were alone at last. “Yeah,” she said, smiling from ear to ear. She seemed a little shocked and overwhelmed. “Coach Carpenter just retired last week. Mr. Bradley just offered me the high school girls’ head coaching job.” “And…” “I took it!” The girl who had been “too young” to coach the U-8 team had just been given the much more demanding job of varsity head coach. She was ready. “They’re awful, you know. Haven’t won more than three games a year since you graduated.” “I think the girls just need to realize that they’re wonderful, smart and beautiful. Hey, where’s Em?” “Went home with Jackie.” “Oh,” she said, and then raised her eyebrows. “Would you like to come over to my place, Dani?” “Yes, Jake. I would love to come over.” We didn’t get all the way through the door before Dani kissed me and pinned me against the door frame. It was passionate and heated. We had kissed plenty of times by now, but the kisses had been tender and warm. “Whoa,” I whispered. “That was different.” “Tonight’s a special night,” she said, and took my hand and led me toward the couch. “But, of course, you know me… I need to talk first,” she said with an embarrassed grimace. I sat back and nodded. “Go ahead, my love.” I got to say that now. The “L-word” was okay. Man, it felt great. “I want to make love to you, tonight, Jake.” “Gotta admit I’m okay with that,” I said, trying to lighten a mood that had gotten a little serious all at once. Dani didn’t laugh, but her expression told me that she wasn’t offended at my attempt. “I need to explain why we had to wait.” “You’ve been nothing but wonderful,” I said. “You don’t have to explain anything. Hell, I was ready to wait for a year or more if I HAD to.” “No, I think you might want to know this. It’s the last piece of the whole Dani puzzle.” “I’ve enjoyed the whole Dani puzzle. I fell in love with the whole Dani puzzle, but I do want to know everything that goes on in that wonderful heart of yours.” “Jake, remember how I told you about Stephanie?” “No, I had totally forgotten that my beautiful girlfriend told me that she had made love to another pretty girl.” “She was pretty, too. And she was strong, Jake, a gentle kind of strong, like yours. But, like I said, boys are my thing.” She paused to kiss me there. It was the tender and warm type of kiss. “Here’s what Stephanie did that was different than what I had experienced with boys. She TOOK me. She had complete control in the bedroom… I wouldn’t have let a boy be like that with me, but I trusted her more. So, she kind of dominated me, and it moved me in a way that I had never experienced before.” “Wow!” I wasn’t sure, but I thought this was heading someplace brand new for me. “I loved it, Jake. Part of it was her, but more importantly, it was me. I had never felt so safe, so wonderful as I did when I let down every barrier I had for someone I trusted. Steph was not the love of my life, but she showed me the way I wanted to be with the love of my life. I knew that after Steph, I couldn’t make love again until I found someone whom I absolutely cherished and trusted. I’ve known for a while now… that it’s you, Jake.” She leaned into me and put her head on my shoulder. “Dani. Oh, Dani. You’re saying…” Dani slid down from where she was on the couch and rested her hands on my knee. She gently placed her chin on top of her hands. “I am yours, Jake. I love you, and I surrender my body and my heart to you. There is NOTHING you could ask of me when we’re making love that I will refuse you. I want you to TAKE me in whatever way you desire.” “Dani, I feel the same way about you. I would do anything to pleasure you. Anything at all.” “If you want to see me get the utmost pleasure from our love, then simply make sure that I am pleasing YOU. That would send me over the moon in ways you can’t even imagine. Take me; tell me. I surrender myself to you.” She looked up at me with eyes full of expectation. I felt a surge of energy and power as I met her gaze. I reached for her and pulled her to her feet by her elbow. She breathed deeply in anticipation. Part of me wanted to simply grab her and kiss her and then throw her down on the couch and join her there. But something told me that there would be more pleasure in this for both of us if I took some time to cherish the gift I’d been given. I circled behind her, trailing a finger across the bottom hem of her shorts. I continued playing there as I kissed her shoulders repeatedly. She gasped at the lingering touches. I continued circling her and stopped in front of her and slowly ran both hands up from her waist and just grazed the sides of her breasts as I made my way to her shoulders. She rolled her head slightly and sighed. I left a gentle hand on her shoulder and brushed her hair back with the other, exposing her lovely neck. I traced that hand along the side of her neck a few times and she leaned her chin into it and snuggled to the touch. I still felt every bit of the power I had before, but was realizing how much the power was amplified by choosing to use it gently. Dani had once said that she was complicated, but then again, she wasn’t. I was finally getting it. I simply let my desires, whatever they were, guide me. “Tell me, in nice words, what your body feels right now,” I said. “My heart is pounding, and my breasts are aching to have your big rough hands touch them again. My mouth wants to feel something, your lips, your chest, your fingers, anything that is part of you. I want to feel you enter me down below. I want part of you inside me, any part.” “What part do you want to feel there first?” “Oh, God. Your hands. I love your hands. I want your hands to work every part of me. Those big, strong hands that I held after the fight. Haven’t you noticed how I love to kiss your hands, lover?” She took the hand she had been nuzzling and put it to her mouth. She kissed my knuckles and then sucked on the thumb. “Yes, I’ve noticed,” I said when I could find the words. “I want you to take that thumb and show me where you want me to put it.” She trailed my thumb down her neck and pressed it against her breasts before she stopped at the front of her shorts and rubbed it there. “I see,” I said, trying to sound cool. Then she blew my cool out of the water by slowly turning and rubbing the thumb against the back of her shorts. “All of me is yours, my love,” she said, turning back and releasing my hand. “Let me see all of you, then.” Some women are shy when they get naked, and it always bothered me a bit. I didn’t expect women to be brazen with their body, but I didn’t want them to act like a silly little girl, either. Dani stripped slowly but with certainty that she was comfortable in allowing me to see her. She gently tossed her shoes and socks aside and then her t-shirt and sports bra onto the couch; her little shorts soon followed. For a moment, she stood in only a thong, and then she gracefully pulled it off of her gorgeous body. When she reached to toss the thong on the couch, I took it from her hand and held it in mine. “This is mine,” I said, just letting my desire guide me and not worrying about whether or not it seemed kinky. She nodded, and inhaled sharply. The demand had turned her on. I looked her over, again circling her. With her shorts gone, my touches to the backs of her legs and her bottom had an even more profound effect on her. Her knees almost buckled. I began to gently rub her backside with the thong I had wadded up in my hand. She leaned the back of her shoulder against me, seeming too weakened by the touches to stand. I stayed behind her, and brought the satiny material around front and used it to stroke her breasts. She moaned softly. “Never be shy with noises around me, but never fake them,” I said firmly. She nodded quickly. I slid the thong across her belly and down to her warmest place. She moved her hips slightly to reach for the contact. She had said that she wanted my big rough hands against her, and had seemed enticed by my thumb. I placed one hand on her breast and continued to stroke her labia with the thong. I stayed firm with the grip against her breast, and then slipped the thong into my pants pocket before I slid the thumb of that hand slightly inside of her. She immediately sank down on it, taking the thumb deep inside of her. I held still and she began to rise up and down and then circle around the thumb. She was getting very wet, and her moans were more frequent. She had found the right spot. “Keep going, Dani. Keep going.” I continued to massage her breasts with the other hand, and let her bring herself to pleasure with my thumb. “I love your hands, Jake. I love your hands.” She gave a series of quick, soft cries and then relaxed. She had brought herself over on just my thumb. I pulled my thumb from her and brought it to her mouth. She sucked it softly and kissed it repeatedly. “Undress me,” I said. Dani quickly turned to me and pulled my t-shirt over my head. She kissed my chest and lowered herself to her knees. She took my shoes and socks off, saving my shorts for last. When she lowered my shorts and underwear to the floor, she stayed on her knees and looked up at me without touching the erection that had sprung out in front of her. “Tell me more.” “I’m feeling just a little dirty, because you didn’t send me over the top by moving your hand, I did it all myself at your command. I love your big hands, and I am hoping that you keep using them a little roughly on me. I think that if you asked me too, I would do anything in the world.” “What’s right in front of you, Dani?” “A big and beautiful erection.” “Do you want to touch it?” “Yes, Jake.” “Do you want to kiss it?” “Oh, God, yes.” “Do you think it would feel good inside you?” “It would feel better than anything I’ve ever felt except for maybe the moment you first told me that you loved me.” “That was a good answer, Dani. We’re hot for each other, but the love we feel is more important.” I lifted her chin so that she was looking into my eyes. “I love you, Dani. I love you very much.” They weren’t just words, and she knew it. “I want to make love to you and touch you with my big rough hands, but there is something you can do first that would please me more.” “Then I’ll do it. Tell me, Jake, and I’ll do it.” “Go to the stereo and hit play.” I had been burning collections of Jazz standards ever since our first dance at Lakeview. Dani crossed to the stereo; I watched her every movement. Nina Simone began to sing “Since I Fell for You.” Dani turned back toward me and began to sway gently to one of the richest voices ever to grace our little world. I caught my breath and wondered if there could ever be anything sexier than a gorgeous naked girl transported by a beautiful song. I examined her well-toned body as she continued to dance for me. I couldn’t see her blue eyes, because she kept them closed as she absorbed the music into her soul. Her light brown hair tumbled down to her perfect shoulders. I knew that I was going to be allowed to kiss those shoulders whenever I wanted. Her young breasts were full but firm. I knew that these breasts would be there for my rough hands or my tender kisses. She had a thin strip of dark brown hair between her hips. She probably kept it trimmed for swimsuit season, but I knew that if I asked her to wear it shaggy or remove it altogether she would. She had surrendered to me. She turned and I saw the beautiful backside that she had pressed my thumb to. This moved me to stir at last. I slipped in behind her and slid my arms around her waist. I joined her in moving to the rhythm of the music. She rested her weight against me, and I could feel my fullness between my belly and the small of her back. For the first time, my manhood touched her smooth skin. She snaked against me slightly, and I moaned. The fact that she had pleased me led to Dani continuing to twist her lithe body in ways that let her back slide across my exposed shaft. She leaned her head back and tipped her face toward me. I leaned forward and kissed her. She reached her arms up around my neck and returned the kiss. I reached one hand down to stroke her labia and placed the other firmly on the base of her neck. That forearm pressed against her breast, and she writhed slightly against it, letting the music guide her movements. Her swaying hips began to move her labia against my fingers in a counter-rhythm I had never even realized was there. I had been imagining this since we had danced the first time. Her body was that of an athlete, but her heart was filled with the longings of a torch singer. That combination set to soulful music created a mood more erotic than any I had ever known. I had felt strong while making love to a woman before; I had felt tender while making love; I had felt both at the same time. But Dani’s wonderful body also made me feel graceful while making love. That was something I had never known. With any other girl I would have almost feared going any further lest I broke the wonderful spell she had created, but I knew that Dani could weave her enchantment while doing anything. I urged her very, very slowly toward the foot of the stairwell. She stopped at the bottom step, but I gently pushed her with my hips until she knew to put her feet on the first step. She leaned forward and put one hand on the wall and the other on the rail, and I stepped back. I watched her spread her feet apart and sway enticingly for a moment, and then I stepped forward. I put my hands on Dani’s hips and slowly slid inside of her. Her gyrations stayed slow and easy, and allowed me to work myself all the way into her. Nina had switched to singing “Just Like a Woman.” I found the patient rhythm of the music and began to time my long thrusts deep up inside of her. My beautiful girl gyrated around me in the gentlest interpretation of the melody that could be imagined. Her young womanhood was warm and soft, but had a supple strength that wrapped me in a firm embrace. Every slow stroke was greeted by another embrace, even more wonderful than the last. Of all the wonderful gifts Dani had given me, the one I experienced now was the greatest. Somehow, when the physical connection between us was formed, a touch of her longing and desire was passed on to me. I had known Dani and loved her, but now I felt like I truly understood her. Through her sweet surrender, she had transformed me into something more than I had ever been. Had I been with any other woman, I might have dreaded the swelling in me that indicated I was about to release. It signaled the impending end of the moment. But I knew that this angel had surrendered herself to me forever. This encounter was only the beginning, and my release would only be followed by a lifetime of making love in every way my desires could ever lead me to take this insanely beautiful body and soul. I found a different beat in the song and picked up my pace. Dani responded with increased power in her gyrations. Our gentle passion began to give way to unbridled longing for physical pleasure. Dani’s knuckles turned white as she squeezed the rail tightly and held in a firm position and let me find my closing movement. I thrust into her as if I wanted my entire being to enter her body. Dani moaned in pleasure and then spoke the first words either of us had uttered in minutes, “Fill me. Fill me with everything you are.” The words cut to the exact emotion I was feeling. There was an almost unbearable tightness in my manhood for a few fleeting moments as the pleasure became almost excruciating. Then, I felt my fluid flee my body and rush to find a home far more desirable. I wrapped my arms around her and brought her as close to me as I could possibly imagine. As I finished with a few lingering strokes, I triggered something even more moving for me than my own outpouring of pleasure. Dani gave several short, sharp cries and her entire being shuddered. Her incredible body climaxed around me. It was no mere physical sensation that had caused her to peak; it was her reaction to my pleasure that had sent her over the edge. Dani had given herself to me. My pleasure was her pleasure, and she had given me so much that it came back to her in equal measure. I should have felt tired and spent, but such a moment of profound love strengthened me. I swept her up in my arms and carried her as she kissed me repeatedly on the neck and chest. I laid her down on my bed—our bed. I lay down beside her and began to kiss her neck until we turned and found one another’s lips. Our eager hands began to explore and titillate the other’s body. On the surface, it was obviously the beginning of another round of lovemaking, but on the deepest level it was the beginning of something far more meaningful. We were beginning a lifetime, a lifetime of love that had begun with Dani’s surrender, the sweetest surrender I would ever know. |
