Highlight of my life Fire in your eyes I'm responsible I know I've told many who wish it was them I spark the gas tank with my Zippo lighter Leave it burning for all to see This is my reality Charred remains at your doorstep Pretty little picture Hallmark cards go out to those who wished it could have been them But it's too late Way too late to deny you ever loved her Too late for apologies or niceties Too late for restitution Though she howls in the night for you Her disembodied spirit wills itself From point to point Her tears don't wet her shirt anymore She doesn't bother the world she resented anymore She doesn't find herself where she got lost Among the wheat stalks Hushed voices Sad whimpering She doesn't hold her truths to be self evident anymore Doesn't wait her turn to speak anymore Doesn't want to be seen and not heard, anymore |
